  • Today's video focuses on Sunday's massive top of the table clash, Manchester City 2-2 Arsenal, providing a tactical analysis into the game between Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola.
I delve into the tactics of the game, including Man City's fast start, how Arteta was forced to change Arsenal's approach. Next, we move onto the tactics of how Arsenal gained control before half-time.
Erling Haaland opened the scoring, but not before Riccardo Calafiori, on full debut, scored a worldie to get Arsenal back into the game. Gabriel Magalhaes scored a header from another Bukayo Saka corner to send the Gunners 1-2 up at half-time, but an untimely Leandro Trossard red card meant the 2nd half was a completely different game. It took until the 98th minute for Manchester City to get their equalizer through John Stones, but Arsenal showed why they may not just be contenders, but favourites for the title in the Premier League 2024/25.
Arsenal formed an on-ball template very similar to their 0-1 victory at Spurs, with Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz forming the top of the box midfield, with Declan Rice and Thomas Partey below them. Gabriel Martinelli was key throughout in providing an in-behind threat and challenge for Kyle Walker.
Rodri went off early injured, replaced by Matteo Kovacic, giving Manchester City a midfield of Bernardo Silva, and Ilkay Gundogan. Ahead of them, Josko Gvardiol moved into an advanced pocket in settled play, flanked by Jeremy Doku and Savinho. Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, and Ederson made up the eleven, with Jack Grealish, John Stones, and Phil Foden coming off the bench.
In the second half, Arsenal were forced to switch to a back 5, bringing on Ben White in place of Bukayo Saka to form a defensive with Jurrien Timber, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Riccardo Calafiori, and David Raya.
This channel covers the entire Premier League, including Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, Chelsea, Enzo Maresca, Manchester United, Eric ten Hag, Liverpool, Arne Slot, Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham Hotspur, or Spurs, Aston Villa, Unai Emery, the Champions League, and much more!

Watching it back and I don’t think I stressed enough how good we were leading up to the Gabriel goal: variety in our build-up solutions, composure, winning each and every duel, dominating territory. There was a calm balance and order to all we did. Serious platform to build on and add some details too now.

100%! we took control after Rodri went off, but all you see online everywhere is how Arsenal came to park the bus even in the first half 😂 the fear factor has completely gone! Class video again

Harvey, a lot has been made, in some media circles, of the fact that timber, and a second arsenal player whos name escapes me right now, didn't complete 1 successful pass the whole game. Do you have any inklings on why that may have happened?
Thanks again for the content, love it!

Absolutely and imagine if M. Merino comes back and build that relationship with Martinelli and R. Calafiori on the left hand side... plus already existing relationship between the Captain, Saka, and Ben Blanco on the right flank 💥🥰

Top vid Harvey I was confident we’d get something, they know they’ve got a real rivalry on their hands, gutted for the win but so proud of the boys.
1st goal was sloppy, but I think the balance on the LHS was so much better with trossard coming left & Calafiori at times inverting & underlapping.
Rice on the right hand side of the midfield worked very well in giving saka that extra support, the tactical versatility being able to invert any full back from both sides was top.
Transitions from high block to low is the best I’ve ever seen, pendulum has swung COYG !

    • @harveygration
      @harveygration  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Thanks TBG! I was confident too, I thought there was a real chance of going there and claiming it when everyone seemed to see otherwise (surprise, surprise). That first half, combined with the mounting sense of defensive inevitability we should in the second is what is starting to swing that pendulum.
Will have a vid on Cala in the next day or two, really exciting stuff. Rice on the RHS has a better economy to his touches IMO, also showed he can support Saka as and when (his overlap causes the corner for Gabriel’s goal).

Martinelli is so important to Arsenal's defensive shape and is an excellent outlet on the attack. Just wish he had more confidence taking on players one on one.

It's his lack of confidence with his shots on goal that is most troubling.

Out of broader context, dropping 2 points when we could have pulled off something special is frustrating.
In context, we had 3 of the hardest away trips in the league (one of which is the hardest away trip in world football in the Etihad away) and got 7/9 points. That's massive. City are rattled. We'll be ready for them at the Emirates. Cheers & thanks for another great vid!

Great breakdown as always. It was a hard watch in the second half. The time wasting in the end is what gave them the added time for the goal. We looked comfortable holding them at arm’s length a little less nonsense and it’s five minutes not nine. But before the week I would of taken unbeaten and two clean sheets in three big away games. We move

@@harveygration that’s the second time we have played like that this season against Brighton with ten players was the same and spurs to a less extreme. But if we keep playing into the referees hands it won’t be the last this year. Lucky we are fantastic at defending as a team. Soaking up that pressure is great if we get the result at the end. MÖ8 can’t comeback quick enough. Much love most enjoyable videos 👍🏻

i think Liverpool will cause chaos in the title race, but I don't think they are actually in contention. It's almost inevitable that Slot will have issues at some point, just like every manager in their first prem season. the only guys who one it in their debut where Jose, Ancelotti, Conte and Pelligrini, the common link between them is that they all had basically infinite funds and all won major silverware beforehand (a champions league and/or domestic titles in a top league).
Slot has won 1 Eredivisie in 5 years, and coaches a club that is very frugal and looking to build slowly, I think they are a long term threat but not right now. Personally I'd give it time, their results could be a bit volitile this year until the club has settled.
