On “My Car Story” we're in Rosemont IL at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals on 11-17-17.
We’re looking at a 1968 Chevrolet Yenko Super Camaro Green Paint. This car features a Yenko installed 427 CI engine.
The car's Owner is George Edwards. George purchased this car new. George’s wife Carol shares in this car they went drag racing on their Honeymoon. Sounds like a marriage made in Heaven to me.

I can't believe how well this couple looks, married for close to 51 years and they were both 20 in 68 which means they are 70 and very spritely. I hope they can live very long and healthy to enjoy what they have together. Very nice car, you don't hear of stories like this that offen. Also great video.

Imagine this: standing at the concession stand at almost dusk at Martin 131 Dragway all through the 70's eating a Hot Dog with ketchup, mustard, onions, Nitro-fumes, burning rubber, and once in a while some relish. That's the type of kid who would own one of these Monsters.

The Smog Pump injected fresh air into the exhaust manifold and helped to burn any raw gas in the exhaust .. GM used smog pumps on many cars even my 1980 Chevette had one..

Why, why, why. I lived in Pennsylvania why didn't I buy a Yenko?? What a gem and the owners are inspirational. Such a nice story and Lou, you did it justice. I remember the Cecil County Drag way commercials, they were all over the AM radio LOL. "Sunday, Sunday at Cecil County Drag Way". Those commercials ran all over the Philadelphia and South Jersey area. Boy Lou, for me this one knocks it out of the park! Great car, great story, and from my childhood back yard. Doesn't get much better. Thank you.

This is the hottest Chevy you could buy in 1968. Yenko didn't start doing 427 Chevelle's and Nova's until 69. In 1968 you had to buy either a Corvette or a full size car to get the 427 unless you went through Yenko Chevrolet and ordered a 427 Camaro. The top Camaro, Chevelle, and Nova RPO engine option in 68 was the 396/375 horsepower L78. Really sweet ride

Wow! What a car! Debbie and I also drove a Camaro on our honeymoon. It was the first new car I ever owned, a 1971 with a 350 and a 4-speed. It got traded in on a new Chevy wagon in April of 1976, because we needed a family car, and the second owners of the Camero totaled that car wrapping it around a tree two months later. A SAD, SAD day. Still painful to think about.

Yep... 64 cars, this is one of a rare find. I find the paint neat, and the hood looks. The leather, black interior looks great for a Camaro like this one. Look. See how there are very few buttons? Yes, back in the day, cars weren't that complicated. Very few buttons was all we needed. We don't need like 30+ buttons on a car, we people don't even use some of them!
How does a smog pump work? The air injection system (AIS) is designed to introduce clean air to the engine exhaust as it exits the exhaust manifold or exhaust headers. Exhaust gases are at their hottest as they leave the combustion chambers. The engine part, it's a great tune for the radio.
Encouraged by the success of the 1967 model, Yenko continued to produce his Yenko Super Camaros for 1968. All of the 1968 Yenko Super Camaros started life with the L78 396 in³ 375 hp (280 kW) hp engine and close ratio 4-speed Muncie transmission. They were all built as Super Sport cars but only the Yenko-ordered cars came with the 9737 COPO appointments which included a 140 mph (230 km/h) Delco speedometer, a special Magic Mirror trim tag and a large 1 1/8th inch front anti-sway bar. Yenko swapped out the factory 396 in³ short-block for the L72 427 in³ 450 hp (336 kW) short-block reusing all of the rest of the 396 in³ engine's components including the heads, carburetor, intake manifold, etc. He swapped the stock hood for a twin-snorkel fiberglass one he had made along with other features including Pontiac's 14"x6" steel wheels with special Yenko caps, Yenko emblems gracing the front grill, front fenders and tail panel and 427 emblems were added to the tail panel and front fenders as well. Other additions included a Yenko Super Camaro serial-numbered tag in the driver's side door jamb and Stewart Warner pedestal-mounted tachometer and gauges were installed in the interior. Early cars got a rear spoiler made for Yenko and later cars all got the factory spoilers front and rear. The recognized production number for these cars is approx 64 cars converted, with well less than half of that number known to exist today.
Yenko Camaro is actually a modified Camaro made by Yenko Camaro.
I cannot believe these 2 have known each other and liked each other since the 7th grade, John.

Yes they sure did and I see one in the background with the hideways same color but not a COPO-- I had 456 gears not 410 so that made it even less driveable, driving at about 50 mph it was revving 3 grand, no 5 or 6 speed transmissions in those days,,, amusing they gave a stick to hold up the hood. Those PMD wheels need to go, I am sure Yenko could have used Corvette rally wheels which were 7-8 inches. Most people that had muscle cars in those days beat the hell out of them then sold in a few years or after the 1st 'supposed' gas shortage

Hi Yesenia Krueger, Here is what I can do. You can e-mail me at trupowr@yahoo.com and put in the subject line "Green 1968 Yenko Camaro" and share in the e-mail what you'd like to know and I will e-mail the Owner of this car and then it's up to him to contact you. Hope that helps, Lou

The purpose of the thermactor pump/ air pump is ADD oxygen to help burn the unspent gases in the exhaust not too fool tailpipe emissions Which didn't even exist in 1968 !

There were no smog motors in 1968, Yenko would not build a motor like that.

Shows how little you actually know about things like this . By leaving the smog equipment on the car at the time of delivery, Yenko avoided getting into trouble with the EPA unlike Baldwin Chevrolet with the Motion cars .

Those first gen COPO/Yenko 427 Camaro's are BAD machines. This is a gorgeous example. That is a beautiful shade of green. But my favorite Camaro will always be a 69 ZL1 COPO. The Chevy 427 COPO cars are some of the biggest sleepers ever made. Love em all
