He is correct on the sqhd 4:63 ratio with the RTO 9-15/125-15 Also an oddball standard hood that has been updated to a newer DI- A model. Has the little dog house in the cab and the odd steering column, the Cat ignition/preheater switch for a precup A model instead of a DI. 359 S designates a steel frame, not a short hood. I dig the Red Dot roof air too. Kind of a rare truck in how it was ordered. It's worth saving. That's also a logger spec Peterbilt tow pin on the front.
Have a coffee on me, 359s means steel frame A is all aluminum M means aluminum frame rails with steel crossed members or mixed. If that is a standard hood, it should measure 60 inches along hood would be 68 and the very short I'm not sure of I have a factory PETERBILT fibreglass hood and it looks a little bit different than that one. It also never had turn signals on the fenders. There are not even holes for them, I appreciate the detail about the air sweep on the radiator. I've always wondered what that was and couldn't find anything online weirdly my fibreglass hood had an all steel cab and there is another one in my area just like it I did not realize you could order one with an all steel cab. Also all the fibreglass hoods that I have seen have an aluminum flat built into the centre line of the hood to check your radiator cap and it should be polished not painted. I just found your channel and I really like your personality in the videos Cheers from Ontario.
Thanks for following I believe this is an aftermarket hood that was put on. I have the original build sheet and it mentions the trap doors. For checking the water.
Dad is a legend he’s getting confident in front of a camera and he’s a book of knowledge a encyclopaedia to be in fact gotta love dad ! How’s mom going mike?
Restore it Mike, doesn't matter how long it takes, another good project you might regret if you pass it up. As you said you don't see many around anymore.
Mike you see how nice that hood lines up with it's got a great wheelbase nice and long perfect that would be a great project the you clean all the crap out of it and give it a good pressure washing the truck will look a I'm amazed how good the hood lines up with the cab and the wheelbase I would buy it just for that
Yes SAVE IT 😊 It deserves a new life ✨. That is a short hood and agree it looks like the hood was replaced . The fiberglass looks pretty good and the hood fit looks good 👍
Love the 70's paint scheme. Weird how the rust jacking I only hear about in Canada, ive never heard of this problem in the states. Amazing how trucks get left to rot.
Mike... Veni, vidi, vici ... I came...I saw...I conquered. Replace vici with sit. Veni, vidi, sit... I came...I saw...I left it be. You need to finish what you have in your current que. As always... great to see you and your father out together 😊
Awe. Takes me back. The first logging truck I drove loaded was 1974 Pete 359. Cummins 330 with turbo -- which were rather new at the time. 5+4 trans, 2 speed diffs. Hope you save this beauty.
Andrea.....Andrea..... I'm glad your Dad liked it so much he bought another project to go with Stubby. Sorry but a 359 has to be worth buying and fully restoring it. Mike, you do need to sort out a proper outside cover for project trucks waiting to be sorted and out of the Canada winter elements.
If you see yourself fixing it, and get it done, remember that you got one hell of a show truck, get yourself a trailer and have the combo complete, one day I'll buy a scania 140/141 or Volvo f89 out here in Europe and restore it, but first i need a space to put it 😂
It's too rough Mike, leave it to rest in peace, it's had a hard life, far far too much work to get it anywhere near as good as what you already have. There are thousands more trucks out there with a better chance of bringing them back to life, and will be worth something when finished.
This fellow has some treasures and projects-( Pete 359,67 Plymouth Fury Convertible,Late 60s Ford Pickup,IH TD 24 Crawler,80s Ford Econoline Camper)...
They are like twins! Except for the age difference. But it's a beauty!! Classic retro styling. Love the day cab with dual stacks! Do it! Do it! Do it! Could the hood manufacturer be a Pete factory subcontractor? 👍
The gear shift knob and the headlights are worth more than the truck. Non desired glass std hood, flat dash, rotten cab, rust jacked frame,. It’s a parts truck, you would have double the money into it than what you could sell it for. Not trying to be negative Nancy just stating facts.
That thing was rode hard and put away drippin wet!!!! It would have to be a smokin deal to even begin to consider this 359. Good luck Mike, listen to your dad on this one.
Thanks Mike. Looks an awful lot of work, but if the price is right, then why not. Colour scheme is fantastic, matches K2 and Duke. If you can't get around to restoring it you could always move it on. Mike from Lancashire 🇬🇧.
Mike you have to save him. It's a beauty of a truck and that paint is beautiful. You would also have to get a Peterbilt 281 like the one in the movie Duel. Greetings from Uruguay.
You need to save that truck, Mike. You said it right when you said it right when you said you don't find 359's everywhere. If you can get it for a really great deal, you should get it and park it in the back of the shop to stop it from rusting anymore.
Just the colour combo means you have to get it! :) Love the 359, hard to pass up for sure. All the best with your decision. The long wheel base day cab, sure would make a great addition to the fleet.
Drove for Shell Oil in Phoenix Arizona and we had brand new 359 Peterbilt double West Coast tanker's, they had Corvette dashboards, 350 Cummins and 13spd, they had aluminum hoods except one, it had a fiberglass hood.
Your father is a very wise man listen to everything he has to say when there gone it leaves a big hole if you get the truck tarp it keep going on your current projects net video
The only way to buy that thing is if you have a rolled truck and just put the old cab onto another frame. It is a lot of work and the Dayton's are not ideal and the rear ends are probably junk since it's missing the diff. Idk even if you get it dirt cheap it is not going to be an easy project
I understand your enthusiasm but, looks like it needs an awful lot of work. Quite a bit of cash going to be needed too. Needs a diff and half shafts. Non runner, is the engine going to be any good ? Remember what happened to Duke on the way home. And don`t forget Andrea. Best get her views as well. Happy wife, happy life.
That's a sweet old truck. New in my day. Prolly Cummins 350 ... Could be fun, but ... Way to much work needed unless this was the first truck in the group.
A model Cat in it: RELiABLE :-) Killer truck Mike. Wide hole it and drop a bigger bunk on it [or drop a bench seat in the back but it's a great truck man] 🙂😎👍👍 Cooler truck than Duke in terms of looks on the outside :-)) Get it mang! 359's... flat out Rocik!
They did come with fiberglass or aluminum hoods. 359s the S stands for steel frame the corvette dash came out in 1977 I have a 1985 359 they also had aluminum frames as well
Caterpillar Pre combustion (pre cuppers) chamber heads had glow plugs early A models, as for Newark it was Newark California before they move the office to Denton Texas
My uncle had a custom pete 359 he ordered and spec'd out and went to the factory to pick it up. As a young lad it left an impression on me to this day. Had dark cherry maroon with metallic flakes in the paint. Had his name plate in brass on the dash. She was like a centerfold model in a magazine.
I would suspect that is a factory hood Mike. If it is that would make that a rare truck. It would be interesting how many were made like this. The paint job is fantastic.
Well Mike can you get it home before winter? Then it is going to take time and money from other trucks. It is neat looking you could get a lot of content out of it. I guess drag it home if cheap enough then work on it .
The look with the striping is awesome, cool truck, does need work though, but you're not afraid of that! Best of luck with deciding. And someone from Oilberta might like that Ferd pickup😅 All the best Mr. C!
Definitely grab that truck. Yes it needs lots of work but it would be great to save another older truck and not many left around. 😊
He is correct on the sqhd 4:63 ratio with the RTO 9-15/125-15

Save it! This truck is what legends are made of.

She's home but still having issues. Hoping they can do surgery soon and hoping it helps her.
Gotta save it Mike! Future project.
Mike Absolutely Save the Old Girl Its a CLASSIC
Save it Mike I love the 359s
Restore it Mike, doesn't matter how long it takes, another good project you might regret if you pass it up. As you said you don't see many around anymore.

It deserves a new life ✨. That is a short hood and agree it looks like the hood was replaced . The fiberglass looks pretty good and the hood fit looks good 👍
Good thing you brought your dad along.. he is very knowledgeable...
Turns out ge worked with the original owner back in the 70s
Love the 70's paint scheme. Weird how the rust jacking I only hear about in Canada, ive never heard of this problem in the states. Amazing how trucks get left to rot.
We have to much winter with salt and calcium on the roads in the winter. 😭 I'd love to have a southern US truck with a minty frame.
Gorgeous paint job on it, combined with a blue frame. It must have been a real looker when it was new.
If the owner is willing to work with you on a low price sure it’s worth it. Plus you can never have enough trucks!
I love your dad he makes me laugh every time he’s in a video
From one Mike to another Mike, save Rrrrrrrr ! Mike save the Peterbilt 359’s. Your fans support your interest in this fixer upper!
YES! 😁
Hey Mike, you &your dad are the right man for this challenge!
Mike, how could you leave it behind, take it home it deserves a new look at life, you are just the man to do that
If the price is right, go for it! Too many toys was said by no man ever!
Really cool truck. Get it!. Would look cool with a sleeper added.
Yes sir. You definitely need that truck
Mike, Mike, Mike, walk away, or better yet, run away! You don't need another prah ject. Have Dad bring back a nice one from Arizona.
Sweet truck yes u should buy it
Mike... Veni, vidi, vici ... I came...I saw...I conquered. Replace vici with sit. Veni, vidi, sit... I came...I saw...I left it be. You need to finish what you have in your current que. As always... great to see you and your father out together 😊
Save the truck mike !!!!!! As you said they are getting hard to find.
Awe. Takes me back. The first logging truck I drove loaded was 1974 Pete 359. Cummins 330 with turbo -- which were rather new at the time. 5+4 trans, 2 speed diffs. Hope you save this beauty.
Give the owner a 36 pack of bud That's all it's worth Too far gone
“I gotta take a leak.” “I’ll film a different direction.” 😂 😂 😂 Too funny!!!
Neat old truck, save it if you can get for the right price. Keep as a day cab.
Andrea is not going to be happy, it may mean more bags or cats.😂😂
If you got it for free, why not, but save your resources for finishing the cabovers and building a pole barn to keep them in !
Save the peterbuilt ❤❤❤
You have to get it because of the colour and it comes with a free ratchet strap holding up the drive shaft. To cool to pass up🎉
If you see yourself fixing it, and get it done, remember that you got one hell of a show truck, get yourself a trailer and have the combo complete, one day I'll buy a scania 140/141 or Volvo f89 out here in Europe and restore it, but first i need a space to put it 😂

Just wait for the next video with some vintage kws
@@mikethetrucknutlooking forward to it!!
@@mikethetrucknutif he has more than one rig you are interested in,you can bundle 2 or 3 together and maybe get a better deal
It definitely has to be saved
It’s a neat truck but it’s really rough ! Do you want another project ?
Good luck in your decision Mike.
I would love to see it saved!
They are like twins! Except for the age difference. But it's a beauty!! Classic retro styling. Love the day cab with dual stacks! Do it! Do it! Do it! Could the hood manufacturer be a Pete factory subcontractor? 👍
I think so I didn't realize they did the fiberglass hoods back in the day
It would be a lot of work, but not too bad. Save the Pete's.
Love that 359 hay buddy good job
Love the paint and interior. Just that makes it worthwhile.
The gear shift knob and the headlights are worth more than the truck. Non desired glass std hood, flat dash, rotten cab, rust jacked frame,. It’s a parts truck, you would have double the money into it than what you could sell it for. Not trying to be negative Nancy just stating facts.
SAVE IT! At the very least you have a parts truck for your next project.
That thing was rode hard and put away drippin wet!!!! It would have to be a smokin deal to even begin to consider this 359. Good luck Mike, listen to your dad on this one.
If you did buy it,it would likely be the oldest rig in your fleet.... And it is one of the most popular 70s rigs to collect too...
It would be cool to see it running again
Thanks Mike. Looks an awful lot of work, but if the price is right, then why not. Colour scheme is fantastic, matches K2 and Duke. If you can't get around to restoring it you could always move it on. Mike from Lancashire 🇬🇧.
Mike you have to save him. It's a beauty of a truck and that paint is beautiful. You would also have to get a Peterbilt 281 like the one in the movie Duel. Greetings from Uruguay.
Definitely save it 👊🏻
Save it for sure, you don't know if that peace of history is going to sit there for ever and never be loved again.
Maybe there should be a "will it start" video, before you purchase?
You need to save that truck, Mike. You said it right when you said it right when you said you don't find 359's everywhere. If you can get it for a really great deal, you should get it and park it in the back of the shop to stop it from rusting anymore.
If the price is right why not --you proved yourself that you can handle it !
Another nice project Mike💪
Go ahead and save it truck has so much potential
The amount of truck knowledge between you two is very impressive, great video!
Thanks! 👍
Just the colour combo means you have to get it! :) Love the 359, hard to pass up for sure. All the best with your decision. The long wheel base day cab, sure would make a great addition to the fleet.
Thats gonne be a nice built 👍🤩
And it's a nice old truck😮
Drove for Shell Oil in Phoenix Arizona and we had brand new 359 Peterbilt double West Coast tanker's, they had Corvette dashboards, 350 Cummins and 13spd, they had aluminum hoods except one, it had a fiberglass hood.
They made a 425 3406C. I had one in a 1997 Peterbilt 379EXHD
Save big hole the cab an sleeper an keep the paint layout it looks great
Your father is a very wise man listen to everything he has to say when there gone it leaves a big hole if you get the truck tarp it keep going on your current projects net video
I would buy it just for the engine. Rebuild it ,sell it or put in K2. CAT BABY!
The only way to buy that thing is if you have a rolled truck and just put the old cab onto another frame. It is a lot of work and the Dayton's are not ideal and the rear ends are probably junk since it's missing the diff. Idk even if you get it dirt cheap it is not going to be an easy project
I am such a sucker for a 359 with single round headlight’s.
Me too
I understand your enthusiasm but, looks like it needs an awful lot of work. Quite a bit of cash going to be needed too. Needs a diff and half shafts. Non runner, is the engine going to be any good ? Remember what happened to Duke on the way home. And don`t forget Andrea. Best get her views as well. Happy wife, happy life.
The fact you've planed how to get her out it's looking like the next project "go for it👍"
That's a sweet old truck.
Oh boy oh boy do i love that color scheme on this truck ❤️
They did come with fiberglass or aluminum hoods. 359s the S stands for steel frame the corvette dash came out in 1977 I have a 1985 359 they also had aluminum frames as well
Save it Mike.
Mike when or are you talking the 359 Peterbilt Home?
That needs to be saved.
Take it home. Find a sleeper..👍
Caterpillar Pre combustion (pre cuppers) chamber heads had glow plugs early A models, as for Newark it was Newark California before they move the office to Denton Texas
It’s rough but a good challenge. Put a sleeper on it. Deals with the rear window and some of the rot on the back wall. Plus you have plenty of space
or put a daycab extender in. Daycabs are cool in their own right. But a guy who eats needs a little extra room
Yes, save it
Save it Mike❤
because the engine is cat 3406 and too much oil. I could bet that the coolant is in the sump. I have encountered the problem many times.
I approve this truck 👍i love the color
Well Mike can you get it home before winter? Then it is going to take time and money from other trucks. It is neat looking you could get a lot of content out of it. I guess drag it home if cheap enough then work on it .
It's a total rebuild but you've got it in you mike go get low and slow take it home to the shop now lol 😂😂😂
leave it there. Cabs roached and all that moisture... just needs everything... spend 30 grand to have 10... Not out back by accident
A sleeper would look good on it
Definitely should get it
If you can afford it,it needs saving, good luck with the wife,um,thanks for the video, nice to see your dad ,he knows a lot, skill.
Cool find
The look with the striping is awesome, cool truck, does need work though, but you're not afraid of that!
Best of luck with deciding.
And someone from Oilberta might like that Ferd pickup😅
All the best Mr. C!
I love that flat dash
What year did they start putting the "Corvette" dash's in the 359's .
yes SAVE it, save all Peterbilt !!
That truck will need lots of work, but she's a classic. It would be a long term project, certainly not a quick turnaround project.
