I’m guessing they usually have two piece is for two reasons.
One cost is cheaper having square & flat screens &
Secondly but actually the main reason FITTING & replacement out in the field due to the big hood, or bonnet we call it in the U.K.
I drive a Scania all day at work & love my Beast it’s King Of The Road.
I really like the one piece windshield on the PeterBuilt, can tsee a problem with it freezing up, that’s kind of ridiculous with modern heating technology, but I do like the split screen, split screen is mean & aggressive looking, tough looking & I like that. To be honest split screen looks better from the outside, single screen better for driving.

The 589 is a good looking truck. I like all the room it now has over the 389. When you’re in the truck for 6 days a week, loading your belongings and groceries and climbing over it all to squeeze through the seats and put it away in the sleeper and having to take it all back out at the end of the week, gets very frustrating. As I get older, I choose comfort more than anything now. As long as they can build a good deep visor to cover enough of the windshield, it’ll be great. In a couple years of these trucks being out on the road, all the naysayers should be “done driving” anyways,or they’ll be bragging about how much better their 589 is than the other guys truck

I’m a proud Scot and also a truck driver. As far as trucks go in the UK and Europe I would never choose to drive anything but a Scania but I have never been a van of the T-cab or “bull nose” as they are commonly known here. When I look at trucks in the US and Canada I absolutely love how the old Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks look. If I lived there I’d definitely want one although to be fair, the cab over trucks you guys have look great too. Maybe less room inside than we have but but I think I could live with it. The newer style Volvo that I’ve seen over there just don’t look right to me. They may well be great trucks but I much prefer the boxy shape of the classics.

The 389 and 589 are a fever dream for company drivers and people that want to buy a truck but feel they need something that looks “old school” to justify themselves to other people. It has a narrow industry recommendation (flatbed, tanker) yet people buy them to haul van/reefer and bury themselves in debt because the freight costs can’t keep up with the fuel mileage

Love the 389s and I’m sad to see them go. That being said I also love the 589s and I’m happy to see them arrive. I absolutely hate the aero trucks. I’ve spent a ton of time in the 579s as a TMC driver and also in the 379s before they sold all of those. I’m thrilled that Pererbilt basically combined the two designs to give drivers all the comfort of the 579 with the style of a 389! The lack of space between the seats of the 379 was kind of annoying and I’m not a wide guy. I prefer a 13 speed manual but have no 18 speed experience. I’m tall so the flat top sleeper is a total no go and I honestly don’t like the look. Needs a mid roof like the TMC trucks because the high roofs look terrible too unless you pull a box. Anyway great video and I’m glad to see a better view of the 589. The air cleaners look a bit weenieish compared to the 389 but I’ll take the comfort and the hood any day over a stupid sloped nose b***h wagon! Should’ve done away with the 579 and kept the 389 instead 😂. I get it though and at least they tried hard to modernize the classic look without totally ruining it or scrapping it!

So this is practically 50 years of evolution of American trucks? And truckers complain about the single bigger windshield. Scania skipped splitted windshields already in the 1940's on their trucks.
American trucks seem to be the only vehicles in the world that still have split windshields. For example no car or no farm tractor has them anymore. One important reason is that the lath between the windows disturbs the visibility the same way "wunderbaums" and other things hanging in the middle of the windshield do. These are in fact illegal in many countries.

I thought I had read PACCAR was trying to get Petes and KWs to share more parts to cut down on build costs. With the build quality of the newer trucks, I wouldn't buy one, no matter the brand. I think you're confusing Peterbilt with another company. Because Peterbilt is still U.S.-owned, it's run by the same firm that owns and runs Kenworth. PACCAR! You might be thinking about either Mack (Volvo) or either Freightliner or Western Star (both are Mercedes), lol...

@@dth2brny121 see I thought so as well but I got into a disagreement with someone about it and he pulled up some information that u can’t seem to find that shows that the biggest majority of Vanguard stock is owned by investors overseas. If that’s true yes it would still be considered a U.S. company however controlled by the majority stock holders.

Large windshields are fine. Northern ab here and drove a 567 with the same style windshield. Make sure the small micron cab air filter goes in the garbage and just use the one thick cab filter. Then make sure you keep your AC button on as it draws out humidity. If it has auto climate I hit auto then hit window and feet and set temp to 73ish and have never had an issue with the window freezing as far down as -47°C.
However, the older trucks like that 389 or a w900 have the worst fan heaters in the world and the worst wipers. What pieces of junk that have never been update since 1986 when the t800 came out. Now those windows get icey and fogged up real quick.

I love the comments here on the Euro fanboys inserting their precious Volvo FH16-780 and Scania 770S and bragging about the power output while completely ignoring the fact that:
    1. China has an 800 horsepower Sinotruk and 840 horsepower Shacman. But we don't talk about that here to protect the reputation of their precious Euro trucks.
    2. As if all trucks in Europe are FH16-780s and 770S, a lot of models aren't and theg typically have 400 to 500 horsepower.
    3. These computer controlled engines are just a laptop or chiptune and a few bolt-ons away from 700? 800? Perhaps even more than 1,000 horsepower. Hell, some of these work trucks are tuned North of 1,500 horsepower. (Waiting for the "bUt iT diDn'T cOmE fRoM tHe fAcTorY tHaT wAy."
    😅

    • @ontheroadagain4773
      @ontheroadagain4773 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1. Not many Europeans want a low quality chinese shitbox, no matter how much power it has. Chinese products aren't exactly famous for their quality.
      2. You're correct about that. The market for those 700+ hp trucks is pretty small. These are expensive too. That's why only Scania and Volvo are making them. Less powerful trucks are enough for the big market on the European continent.
      3. Yes. you can take out 1000 hp just by programming the engine's computer. And for example Scania makes marine versions of the same 16 litre V8 with up to 1150 hp. But It isn't only about the engine power. It's about the whole driveline and the frame. It has to withstand the huge torque and has to be optimized for it. Also cooling down the engine needs some new solutions.
