Thank you for your honesty about the check in ones! I just purchased my first rimowa (the essential carry on in slate grey) and I was sooo tempted to get the trunk in matching colours. I like my things in pristine condition though, my heart would break if it got scratched. I went for a Lojel Cubo fit instead, way more affordable but similar shape to the trunk, looks great, and is good quality.
I love my rimowa trunk plus. I also own the large (clam style). The trunk is the best to fit all items. I really don’t care about scratches. Just add stickers and it looks rad on my white trunk
I’m wanting to start getting into rimowa but I have a black obsession and love the aluminum. How bad do you think a combo of cabin and check in classics in black would be? Or if I’m spending the money better to just go with the silver? I travel quite often, thank you love this channel for rimowas
Personally I would not buy black again. I showed the wear though in my videos so if you are ok with it, it’s up to you but silver will look better in time, especially if you travel alot.
I enjoy all my Rimowa…Trunk Plus and Aluminium…I don’t care about the scratches because it is considered memories even if it is expensive..Trunk doesn’t give you stress in packing just throw❤ it inside and no need to seat on
I just got the trunk in cedar and glossy black. The rimowa SA suggested we do glossy because matte black has white under the paint so it shows wear and tear more!
Oh no 😬 now this is the second comment like this. Maybe he lied to make the sale or something because even after one flight ours looked really bad. Hopefully yours works out for you!
@@JaniceEadie yeah the SA was not pushy for a sale at all. I’m still on the fence if I’ll keep mine or the Away Trunk but my husband was sold on the Rimowa wheels
a great presentation of a great suitcase, but the risk of scratches is the reason why I only use hand luggage now. even for a three weeks trip to the Cook Islands.
Hello! Have you used it any time after this video was posted? Is there any signs of cracking? I wonder if I should buy this since im worried it will crack when baggage handlers rough it up. But I only travel once or twice a year for vacation.
I’m afraid of getting zipper ones due to the ease of getting into the bag. The lock doesn’t matter because they can literally rip the zipper with a pen
As I mentioned in the video, I don't think any of their check in luggage is worth the price. It all gets damaged and beat up super quickly. Also if you don't live near a Rimowa store, keep that in mind because it will likely need to be fixed at some point. The aluminum check in we have falls so quickly down the luggage chute I always cringe when it comes down to the luggage carousel. I think the aluminum looks better but the poly carbonate one you can fit more in because it's flexible....but personally I can't recommend either when there are many more affordable options.
For local travel via car or train, aluminum. If you plan on flying and of course, checking it in, just get the polycarbonate to avoid the heartbreak of having a metal trunk dropped around. Polycarbonate can fit more and is lighter. Aluminum is heavier and fits less.
@@JaniceEadie thanks a lot for yout reply. my concern is only about the dimensions it is bigger than the airlines’s check in luggage dimension limits. let’s say you can carry 23 kilos with a check in lugagge and your luggage is under 23 kilos, do you think i would experience a problem since the trunk plus is big sizewise.
Lets be honest what did u except by the airport stuff when they see this suitcase. they barely can lift it and surely wont place it softly and in the best angle but kind of throw it just into the back
For a carry on, whichever colour you like should be ok because they don’t get too damaged but for a check in I would definitely recommend the black colour.
If only they make the Original as light as the Essential. The zippers look so ordinary and ugly in the Essential for something that costs so much. My Samsonite Starfire has invisible zippers (no stitches on the side!) that looks much more elegant.
Why is everyone so obsessed about scratches? You are buying a suitcase for travel and scratches are inevitable. Just buy a inexpensive suitcase for $100 and be happy if you hate scratches. Or just keep your suitcase at home or just use the cabin version. If you don't like scratches, do not buy any metal suitcase from Rimowa, Tumi, etc. Get a polycarbonate one or hybrid. This is like a making a big deal out of nothing.
I see you have been watching my videos and making comments for the past hour. Seems that you are the one obsessed about making a big deal out of nothing.
@@JaniceEadie why mentioned it on your video? Sounds like that is the reason you will not buy the big suitcases. You said Rimowa looks cheap with some scratches.

Great review, you helped me to decide to get the Trunk one, thank you :)
Great review. I'm one of the folks that like the beat up look of a metal suit case without the color coated colors of course.
Just picked mine up today, Matte Black Essential Trunk Plus. This review was super helpful, thank you.

4:20 those scratches for 4 flights are good being a rimowa owner
The guy at my rimowa store told us matte is more prone to scratches and glossy black or grey lasts longer 😂
Of course 😆 I initially wanted the glossy black but then my fiancé called me from the store to explain the sales person didn’t recommend it 🤷🏼♀️
I love my rimowa trunk plus. I also own the large (clam style). The trunk is the best to fit all items. I really don’t care about scratches.

That why you get the stickers to combat against the marks

I agree I love the trunk shape for packing and it’s great for bringing home souvenirs that are oddly shaped.
Literally the best video on here! Thanks a bunch
Thanks for that! ☺️

We’ve used it 4 more times since I filmed this. No cracking or anything like that.
Im no expert, But I think you might be able to clear up the scuffs with a bit of heat. get a heat gun and give it a shot.
I’m afraid of getting zipper ones due to the ease of getting into the bag. The lock doesn’t matter because they can literally rip the zipper with a pen
You can literally buy all the keys for the TSA locks online, everything is false security. just have insurance and hope for the best.
Scared to drop $1500 on a bag. Do you prefer polycarbonate trunk or should I splurge on the classic aluminum trunk?

Helpful video. Thank you 😊
wow this video came at the right time!
Perfect 🤗
Hi.What would you recommend a glossy slate grey or the glossy black one trunk bag? Thanks
I like the grey I think. I wish we had got a fun colour actually because everyone has black.
hi, did you ever had to pay for oversize luggage when flying overseas? for trunk PLUS.
@@edademirsakin no, but it is easy to go overweight with the trunk because it fits so much, but never had to pay due to the size.

Fair enough, which is why I wouldn’t personally recommend spending this much on check in luggage but I still love my carry on.
Hi how is your matte trunk plus is it gettting pretty beat up?
Yes, but I'm over it now. Someone did suggest to get a cover for it so that could be an option.
which one is better matte black or white ...carry on or check in if i have enough $ on 1

Isn’t that essential lite?
Shame that they recommended the matte versus gloss. The matte shows scuffs and scratches so much more.
I think because he told them I wanted the glossy black one and they didn’t have any left so they told him he should get the matte one 🤨
