its so funny how buissnesmen always seem to miss the point in every community. we don't want an "easier" way to get tattoos, we don't want something to "ease" workload and take jobs away, we don't want ai to make our music, WE DONT WANT A 5TH REMAKE OF THAT MOVIE!!!
I do want self checkout though because I am both introverted and on the spectrum, and also work customer service (against my better judgement) and have spoken to enough people long before I have to pick up my groceries. Like, I could've had a week off already and I'm still burnt from talking to people and forcing small talk. If they have to take some of them away because of theft, fine, but I will wait longer in a longer line of it means I don't have to force one more conversation this week.
@islandboy4445 I'm in Australia and I get my groceries delivered. It costs almost nothing and they drop them at the front door. I don't have to talk to anyone. I can finally become a recluse.
honestly this seems like they're not even aiming it at people who are actually in the tattoo community, it's for corporate tech bros who think they're better than tattooed people but still want a tattoo anyway
Nailed it. And I know tech bros. I am in Seattle and I am married to a developer(but not a bro!) These guys would never walk in a real shop to tell the truth. And it's out if Austin which is a tech hub so it tracks.
Course not… bc I think even they know that ppl who respect the art, respect the industry & respect the artists would never support this… mostly bc the last thing anyone who is truly apart of this community supports is stealing other ppls art & copying peoples tattoos…. That’s the who foundation of this company. This is the same model as TikTok… Just copy & pretend you’re doing something ground breaking while never having a real, original idea of your own. (That’s not all of TikTok but…. Let’s be real. That’s all TikTok is on the surface. Trends & a bunch of kids trying to copy a kid who has more clout… so this is for those ppl)
This reminds me of everything around the cyber truck. It’s not good at being a mode of transport but tech bros will pay anyway to be the first. They all just care about showing their allegiance to tech. They want to be an “early adopter” and say they were there when it started even if it means a terrible tattoo
I hate that so many tech inventions/advancements always target the creative field. I want robots to help me clean the house and do my taxes, not draw my art for me!
It's because the customer is a business, not the consumers. The plan is push out the artists making good stuff so that enough of the population will be forced to accept their pos. Beyond that, if you make cheaper widgets, Pirates can steal those. No one can steal a server farm. Plus then, all they have to make is some code. They don't need to make anything physical in most cases and that is way easier.
I mean cleaning houses and doing taxes is someone’s job. Technology has been advancing in the tattooing industry, I mean can you image first tattoo machine someone said, I don’t want a robot I want a stick and poke tattoo. That’s not even taking in to account then advancement of so many other things like good reference photos on the internet and advancement of pigments.
Tbh the deviantart CEO appearing in their promo video was a pretty big red flag for me. Expect there'll be lots of stolen and AI generated art involved in this and a profit over people attitude
I mean, the designs they had for the pre-release stuff referenced existing albums.... The star nymph was openly advertised as coming from a Smashing Pumpkins album.... And Mona Lisa being their "signature tattoo"... Their designs are already stolen!!
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one thinking of it. The stolen art and AI shit was why I left DA a long time ago. Fuck, even the ‘star nymph’ thing they showed was straight off Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Though to be fair I don’t know where the Smashing Pumpkins got that image from. Either way, clearly not an original piece.
@@chojay13 Not to defend this but I assume the high price of the tattoo includes a licensing fee for the artwork. They did seem to be pretty clear one of their goals was to pay the artists, which is the only aspect of this I could even remotely get on board with lol
It's completely wild that they think the only obstacle in the way of microrealism tattoos is the talent of the artist. That's so deeply insulting. Instead of doing one google search on the style to see WHY it was rare, they just assumed that it was because artists lacked the necessary skills. Incredible. I hate every part of this.
@blackdot_tattoo why not expand more upon your product. You leave sparse and nebulous comments but no further details directly relating to actual context of what was written. Says a lot....
Exactly! I’m sure most everyone in this community has seen images of incredible, tiny realism tattoos that look a million times better than the examples they showed! Granted, they don’t look that incredible for long, but it’s not people lacking in talent that is the problem! It’s the canvas!
@@blackdot_tattoo this is so embarrassing, as if the people in this comment section would be your potential customers... we're not and this really looks desperate.
You nailed it when you pointed out they're not tattoo enthusiasts, they're just tech bros looking for an industry to "disrupt" so they can attract venture capital and then sell the company and move on to the next thing.
This is going to be popular for exactly 5 years. It’s amazing how many times I’ve seen people trying to convince the general public that their tiny, high detailed tattoos heal differently somehow, and how many times the general public believes them.
“BuT mY arRisT knOws WHat thEY’re dOinG” Every. Time. I tried to warn my bf’s sister years ago about her fine-line mini tattoo. Guess who’s upset it’s almost faded out?
@@blackdot_tattoo yall do not understand what people mean when they say this will age poorly. Tattoo artists don’t not do small detailed tattoos because they physically can’t, it’s because they don’t age well no matter how well they are done initially.
@@blackdot_tattoo Go away guys no one wants you here. Come back when you invent a machine that can move around a curve, and more importantly, one that respects the rules of tattooing and doesn't make tiny designs with gaps in the skin that will disappear after a few years of healing. Mugs.
The first thing that came to my mind as I started watching this is the blood, sweat and tears that went into my calf tattoo. I'd only had my arm tattooed before that, so it took me completely by surprise when I realised how tickly it was, making my leg muscles want to contract every time the needle hit. For hours, the artist and I worked together to make that tattoo happen -- me by supressing the twitching for as long as I could, and her by being incredibly in tune with my body language and lifting the needle when she could see that I could not take it anymore. No machine could ever replicate that trust and human connection, no matter how 'precise'.
Love how they act like they care about crediting and compensating artists but keep mentioning “generative art” (aka ai art, aka stolen art) as a selling point
Ok as a tattoo artist there are multiple things that I want to ask about this - How much of the machine can you take appart/clean ? you'd be surprised where the blood and ink can end up. Unless the entire area of the machine that sits above the skin can be taken off and cleaned with a disinfectant wipe, its unsanitary. -If a client has an adverse reaction, how quickly can you help them ? That could be fainting, spasming, puking, passing out... You never know how people are going to react to a tattoo. If the machine takes longer than a hand movement to be safely away from the client's skin so they can be helped, then its dangerous. -How does it handle older skin ? Or healed scar tissue ? We have to adapt the speed of our machine, the pressure exerted and how much we stretch the skin pretty much based on person to person. I simply dont think it can adapt to properly work on every skin type. All in all, I dont think its a threat to the industry. I think its another example of tech bros/wealthy people trying to take something thats usually "lesser" for them (tattoos are still seen as quite trashy by the mainstream) and make it into an exclusive behind a paywall. Keep in mind im only halfway through the video but I just wanted to express my concerns before I forgot.
I like how the black dot channel is snarkily replying to everyone who questions their veracity, but you raise good questions and they completely ignore your comment.
Bio nerd here and I immediately had the same concerns too. Plus the whole thing reminds me of the Juicero, remember that disaster? People still.use juicers and Juicero is out of business.
This technology as far as I know was developed for injections for people that can't have regular injections because they will bleed to death (disease that prevent a person from healing any skin break), so no blood there, the ink droplets are injected with pressure so almost no skin break happens. Apart from that the rest issues remain. Takes loooong, not so flexible with placement and size especially going bigger etc. Also this method cost like few grands, so not many will afford it and therefore this tech won't improve a lot. It won't cost 30-60$ per tattoo which junior artist can charge when they start.
The biggest red flag for me is the promise of high detail. Tattoo artists have the ability to make highly detailed tattoos. There are so many examples of it - and they’re usually by the shadier artists who don’t care that it will look like crap in a few years. Imagine how detailed the true masters could go! The lack of detail is NOT a skill issue. It’s a property of skin.
I know, all I could think was "are the tattoo collectors in the room with us rn or???" I didn't even see the one singular tattoo the one had on the left for the majority of time they were talking
It’s everywhere 😭 😭 found out the company I work for hired an Ai Specialist. Everyone is scared of losing their jobs in the next 5 yrs (I’m not in tattoos, but art related) :/
It’s not just art, when I did my law degree I had to read and write an essay about AI in the legal profession - basically rendering paralegals obsolete. It’s why I refuse to use self service checkouts and try to limit my interaction with AI and automation. I want people to have jobs. I know it’s a losing battle but still.
@@samjayne8297 i don’t think it’s gonna be losing battle for artists, at least not for a LONG time, cause AI still cannot understand requests and make changes as well as humans can, and i doubt it ever will…

Everything about this is absolutely insane. The whole idea, the "tattoo collectors", the complete misunderstanding of tattoo culture. But when you revealed the price tags, my brain literally melted. How is this even a thing, aaaarrrghhhhh
Tattoo culture isn't changing. Unfortunately more and more people are getting tattoos (usually one tattoo) who don't care about tattoo culture, disrespect artists and won't go into normal tattoo shops. The only benefit I can see from this type of gimmicky tattooing is that it will stop obnoxious tech bros from booking with talented artists.
I cannot imagine my leg twitching vigorously while the robot just hovers over it at the same height. Nightmare fuel! On the positive side, I think this will be for the curious tech savvy tattoo fans for a bit and will only -if ever- stay for those who don't want tattoos for the art, but rather to brag about them.
Yes! My artists is use to my spasmodic muscles now and has epic strength to keep my skin in place and I haven't noticed any inconsistency in those areas. Tattoo artists use both their hands for a reason 😅
The Blackdot device doesn't hover, there is a component called the contactor that is in contact with the skin and exposes a window to tattoo. There is built in tolerance for mild body movements. If there is a major movement, our vision system immediately sees the change and suspends operation.
@@blackdot_tattoo did you deliberately choose the Mona Lisa because it's in public domain and you don't have to pay anyone? Seems counter intuitive to what you were saying about supporting artists.
Are any of these people aware that plenty of tattoo artists can and DO in fact make fine art, street art and cover art? There's a reason what we draw to put on skin looks different from what we put on canvas!
What we're doing is establishing a licensing program that ensures that visual artists are paid royalties each time their art is used as a tattoo. We want to enable more artists to participate in the industry, and for clients to have more choices.
@@treacletattsbut in the current system the tech bros are not paid. Blackdot fixes that! Also I think they should somehow find a way to include NFTs somehow for even more disruption.

@blackdot_tattoo next your gonna tell us your commercial materialised out of thin air because the universe just loves your product so much. for a company it is absolute pathetic and completely unprofessional to be going into a small youtuber’s comment section because they didn’t like your product and it hurt your feelings. if you know what’s good for you, start deleting your comments and pretend this never happened.
This is a big NO. I see the future of black dot tattoo being dissapointed clients and the business going into bankruptcy. $3000 for a tiny tattoo? You can get some serious beautiful custom work for that.
@@blackdot_tattooThe price isn't the issue, the size is. You try to tell people to pay 1k + for what people consider a "shop minimum" tattoo. A shop minimum is usually around $120-$150
@@blackdot_tattooI have a half sleeve for $500. Charging thousands for something so small it won’t be able to hold the detail you’re using as a selling point is highway robbery. What does your “signature” tattoo look like 6-12 months later when it’s healed and settled? I’d bet money half of that detail is already gone.
Artists: we love adapting to parameters and limitations and making something beautiful. We have built a history, culture and visual language around the specific limitations of making art on skin. Tech bros: You know how all tattoos are a similar style? This is a problem for...technology!
I saw videos of robot machine putting simple nails polish on and how much you have to not move and have perfect shape of nails for it to work. Can't imagine similar machine putting on me a high detailed tattoo
Seems fine to me. People who are chill and want to have an authentic experience of human connection can get tattooed by real people and people who want to micromanage getting tattooed and who are likely to be a giant royal pain as a client can have a robot do it, until the company goes out of business because no one who actually gets tattooed or does tattoos for real wants this.
@@deltasaves seriously, for $3k I'd picture a halfsleeve at minimum. Or even a full sleeve depending on the style. Not a 2×2in that won't even last. 😭
Maybe not laser removal. We uniformly deposit the ink (no deep ink wells) which means it takes far less sessions to remove a Blackdot tattoo (bad news for laser removal clinics that charge per session). We also don't scar, our tattoos are perfectly smooth, to ridges on the edge
@@blackdot_tattoo So you have actually come up with a way to make your tattoos easy to remove 😂 Why? Isn't your tattoos supposed to be SOO good? Are any of you tattoo artists, or a part of tattoo community in any way? I refuse to believe that your clients are actual tattoo enthusiasts or tattoo collectors.
My tattoo is over 30 years old. Tattoos were not as popular then. But my experience was so much fun! I went to a tattoo shop owned by a lesbian couple who were brilliant. They had an albino cayman in the waiting room. In 2021 Kings Cross Tattoos re-inked my tattoo. Again I had a wonderful time. I am a moderately disabled, middle aged woman now and the shop did so much to make my experience pleasant & comfortable. While I don’t display my small tattoo, I am really happy with it and the people who made it. I bought the shop some flowers which the men even appreciated. It’s people that make the difference. Everything you stated during this video was spot on! Best wishes from Yorkshire
Kirk Fagan, another tattoo youtuber did a video on the tattoo robot and he said he doesn't like the idea and the company contacted him trying to change his mind and positively promote the tattoo robot. Idk if it's the same company but yeah, kirk said he won't change his mind on not liking it because they told him to.

@@blackdot_tattooThat’s so crazy! Especially since they’re getting the tattoos for that warm, intimate experience with the artist that you just cannot get with regular tattoos.
it's to be expected since the industry is becoming more and more mainstream (in a good way). Companies always prey on things that experience a sudden boom because they want to get their dirty little fingers into the game without knowing anything about the community they are trying to exploit.
"Surely"? We have automated delivery of a lubricant on the skin, the ink is unable to penetrate it, instead resting on top (like a hockey puck on ice). It's easy for us to use suction to remove it.
@blackdot_tattoo A trained human tattoo artist will add moisturising balm as they go before they apply the ink but also will ensure the parts that are already tattooed also remain moisturised until it’s finished and ready to wrap up. Having suction at all times will dry out the tattoo which is not good for the skin. What the hell are you talking about? What do you mean the ink is unable to penetrate the lubricant? 😂 you guys are just an overpriced tacky gimmick that people who love tattoos would never go to!
This is so frustrating bc tattoo artists are MORE than capable of doing those insanely stupid detailed tattoos. The good ones just won't because they care about clients and the future of their work!
Just need to combine Blackdot and Ephemeral Tattoos. As the details fade, so do the whole tattoos. Or you get the worst of both with blotchy looking tattoos that fade unevenly and blurred details
This makes getting a tattoo like having a dentist appointment. For me it would kill the experience and I couldn't enjoy such a piece - it would feel dead.

He "just wanted to see what technology could do" and yes these people have no clue about the art and history of tattooing. They can't even conceive of the matters of soul that are intrinsic to creating art and one person applying it to another's skin. They're just like, "Yeah but the machine doesn't make mistakes." 🙄

Compared to humans rate of mistake tho? Maybe could be less, proper data would be needed to show that (Like self driving, they pad their safety numbers by using comparison data where self driving would not be used ATM like snow storms, so it's possible they're be safer long term)
I think its so cool as a concept. I am facinated by the tech behind it. I hope it thrives. Those who wish to see a real artist can and those who wish to have a machine do it can have this option!
Blackdots “studio” looks like a room I would get dragged into for a lobotomy. Also the Deviantart founder allowed Ai art to feature more on the sites homepage than actual artists who spent actual time and care into their art. Fancy spending thousands of pounds on a tiny ass “tattoo” that’s pretty much getting printed on you by a massive printer.
A setting like that would probably trigger my medical trauma and make me much more anxious than I would be otherwise. Obviously I get some nerves before getting tattooed because it’s a big commitment but being in an all white room, strapped down, people watching from the sidelines, no ability to stop asap if needed would really freak me out.

Hot take could be just me but: if you cant respect the history, dont be in the industry. There is cultural significance with tattoos, there is such a deep history throughout the world with tattooing, there is a reason tattoos have been around as long as they have been. Why don’t they just cut out the middleman and call it the Pinterest Tattoo Robot, 70 quid tattoos for 3 and half grand what a bargain. How many heavily tattooed people work for this company ?, how many tattooists work for this company ? And it’s not like deviant art is known for peoples art being ripped off or anything.
five minutes in and im already wondering how much its going to cost long-term. its seems like it would be time-consuming trying to sterilize/maintain the machine while tattoo artists also juggle clients who cant be tattooed by the machine with things that also need to be sterilized/maintained (like a tattoo gun for example) and if ive learned anything from tattoo youtube time very much costs money for artists

Fine tattoos don't heal well anyway. Now imagine a fine tattoo made out of only dots and no proper lines, yikes. I am already so fed up with machines taking over certain jobs. I am not really scared about the tattoo industry though as no machine could ever compare to a real tattoo artist. It's not only about putting lines or dots, it's about the whole experience and journey your supposed to have when getting tattooed. No way I'm gonna overpay and get a shitty tattoo when I can pay way less and get an absolute masterpiece of a sleeve on my skin.
"and journey your (you're) supposed to have when getting tattooed". No one should be saying what a tattooing experience is "supposed to be" -- that's antiquated thinking (and gatekeeping). People should have choices, not mandates.
Ever see the movie Divergent? There’s a part where the main character gets a tattoo. She sits in the chair, the tattoo “artist” lays some sticky pads over the area, presses a button, and voila! tattoo… This seems like what they’re are working towards. No thanks. I’d rather support actual artists.
@@blackdot_tattooSo here’s the thing…most tattoo artists worked hard and busted ass through apprenticeships and self improvement because they actually want to…wait for it…TATTOO. It’s in the name. If they wanted to sell art they’d make merch. Putting lifelong ink on someone’s body is an art form in and of itself…it’s not just about selling illustrations.
The fact it looks so clinical is one of the worst parts. Tattoo shops are such a vibe. I love looking around at all the artwork on the walls and seeing other tattooed people. Im an introvert but i would miss that connection between the art and the artist. Tattoo culture is lost on this completely.
THANK YOU for not holding back and being visibly and vocally angry about this. Some people in different industries just decide to accept it and profit off it
As a tattooed tech guy (stereotypical Silicon Valley engineer), I’m theoretically the target audience. And hell no, if only for the obvious reason that these will look terrible in a few years. Long-term, I wouldn’t worry though. The $3000-5000 price tag isn’t sustainable, and I highly doubt the cost of them building and maintaining these machines will drop enough for them to afford to open enough locations to make the investment worth it.
How nice of them to think that people who would steal and copy someone else's tattoos would instead go to them and pay for their overpriced tattoos. Like those people usually are taking tattoos/ artwork online and going to the cheapest place who will do the tattoo for them, not going to somewhere where they have to pay for 3000-5000 pounds
Not that surprised that the founder of Deviantart would do something this gimmicky. There's going to be a lot of stolen and ai generated art in the future if it stays alive long enough especially with how to site is now a days. So I'm pretty sure Blackdot is gonna end the same way Ephemeral Tattoos is, it's just another trend that'll die once the tiktok influencers stop talking about and once people see how terribly these tiny high-detail tattoos heal.
@@blackdot_tattoo But it is a gimmick, a trend. It's made it any less scummy that y'all are making people pay $5K+ for a tiny tattoo that will end up just being a black blob on their body once it's healed.

Oh man, not a Meow Wolf guy behind Black Dot.... They have such cool attractions. Meow Wolf does those odd immersive art facilities like Omega Mart in Las Vegas and Convergence Station in Denver...
I'm heavily tattooed and you can't see any of mine when I wear normal clothes. If she wants to talk about the tradition of the industry, that's the tradition. People getting their face and hands blasted while they still have blank space on their back and legs is a new thing. I find it interesting that people who have less tattoos than I do often assume I know nothing of tattooing. You don't know how many tattoos they have. Maybe we shouldn't judge people based on their appearance at first glance.
When people in the past envisioned robots they thought of them freeing humans from menial tasks so we could focus on art and anything else else that requires a soul and personality. And now the trend is going towards AI and robots taking over art without actually understanding what that entails, what makes it so unique. What are we doing?
I was expecting this to at least be cheap!!! They will NEVER make a successful business with those prices. If 2x2 inches is the LARGE and it's in the thousands?! That's insane. That's considered a fairly small tattoo IMO.
as a bunch of other people have said, creativity isn't something that automation should be targeted at. automate the stuff that fills lives with drudgery, not art. the deviantart guy talking about crediting artists but also talking about 'generative tattoos' is such BS, having the gall to mention both things back to back is ludicrous
I hate how "predictability" is what someone wants in a tattoo experience. Like part of the joy is potentially witnessing some weird shit. Like when my arm was getting tattooed he had stopped temporarily and some dude nearly ran into the wall I was up against, my dude's station partition was also where the front desk was. My tattoo would have been absolutely ruined had the artist not stopped.
@@blackdot_tattoo You can't sell me on this no matter what you say. It's a gimmick that will make people unhappy because you don't care about the craft itself.
I was at my artist’s tattoo once when someone came in and asked if it was a cafe! She walked in, saw the word studio on the wall, saw me getting tattooed and saw my artist tattooing, and asked if it was a cafe. At least her dress was cute.
My take is that they weren't trying to recruit heavily tattooed people or entice tattoo lovers AT ALL. We are definitely not their target audience. They were advertising to the Instagram mini tattoo crowd, (no shade to them, or at least not much. And anyways, they'll probably be more heavily tattooed after they have to get that tiny smudge covered 😅), and not people who would be scared or turned off by alternative culture. This is something they're selling to tech bros and their "clean girl" girlfriend's, the beige mom's, the Stanley cup collectors.. people who might be intimidated by tattoo shops and artists/people with colored hair and lots of tattoos and piercings, but who still want to feel cool while keeping an "air of respectability". The kind of people who would have gotten YOLO tattoos back in the day, but really small and hidden. I have a neighbor who would love this kind of tiny tattoo, same girl who looked at my chest piece and told me: "So pretty, it must be hard to get a job though! I really want a little flower behind my ear someday." Yeah it's really hard to get a job.. I'm a disabled artist. Lol. I told her that really nicely though, she seems like a sweet girl, she's just not used to being around people like me, and I'm pretty sure she said something about how her parents "would kill her" if she got a visible tattoo. But she could probably convince her parents to allow her to do something like this robo-tatt without them throwing a tantrum, especially if they were showed the commercial. Those boys are so "wholesome" and unthreatening looking, but somehow still have enough.. idk.. edge of youth(?) to appeal to certain demographics. They could probably also pull in a lot of the more "regular guy" types and nerdy types. Like my bf, he's a total square bear in terms of tattoos and style choices. (To be clear, I adore him, I I'm totally fine with him having whatever style makes him comfy. Plus, he's cute, sweet, AND he taught me how to cook Larb and Pad Thai, him wearing cargo shorts is a small price to pay.😂) He would find a tattooing robot really really cool and interesting, maybe even be tempted to get one. As an artist I don't want to put other artists out of business, but I have to admit I find it fascinating as well, even if I would never get a tattoo that's going to age that poorly and eventually look like I, (as per usual), got too enthusiastic w with my art supplies. Every time I would look at it I would have that moment of thinking.. damn it.. and going to go wash the ink smudges off my skin. 😂 Sorry for the long ass comment, insomnia has me in its hideous grasp. Lol.
I find it hilarious that they didn't respond to the top part of my comment, even though they responded to so many people defending themselves, kind of tells me that I might be right.. especially if they spent 3 hours going through comments.
been following and watching you for ages, and finally got my first tattoo. Love your videos! definitely agree that talking and communicating with the tattoo artist was the best part
There is an "artist" here in my country that would charge 2k for a tiny tattoo! She calls them "tattoo jewel" and I guess it's the same with this blackdot thing. It's the experience. She offers a space that looks like a doctor's office, a small bottle of champagne and a personalized after care kit.
There is nothing better than true artists who know their craft and their business where you can sense that passion as soon as you step through the door. How wonderful is it when the customer is truly passionate about the design and the story and the artist who truly loves their craft come together and create a personal and unforgettable experience? It's amazing when a customer chooses a tattoo artist for their skill and their style. It's amazing when you are not at all creative but have an idea and the tattoo artist turns it into something personal and wonderful and unique. How beautiful is it when you want a tattoo that means a lot to you and the artist understands exactly how much it means to you when others may not. We don't need more of unpersonal "quick fixes". To me this whole machine thing feels like booking a beach vacation to an office building decorated with inflatable palm trees and inflatable pool.
I don’t think this technology is for people who get tattoos. It’s for people who are scared of the pain and don’t want them small so they aren’t that noticeable. No one who gets tattoos would pay the price they were asking. Also, who is sitting for a 2x2 in tattoo for 7 hours. I guess a high def tattoo takes a bunch of time. Again, no one who gets tattoos is going to set that long for what they are getting.
The 7 hours covered a bunch of research work (that client got a test tattoo). Her text tattoo took 30min, the Mona Lisa 25 min. We can (and do) execute larger tattoos as well (bigger than a dollar bill). We're not interested in executing sleeves, big back pieces, etc.
its so funny how buissnesmen always seem to miss the point in every community. we don't want an "easier" way to get tattoos, we don't want something to "ease" workload and take jobs away, we don't want ai to make our music, WE DONT WANT A 5TH REMAKE OF THAT MOVIE!!!

I do want self checkout though because I am both introverted and on the spectrum, and also work customer service (against my better judgement) and have spoken to enough people long before I have to pick up my groceries. Like, I could've had a week off already and I'm still burnt from talking to people and forcing small talk.
If they have to take some of them away because of theft, fine, but I will wait longer in a longer line of it means I don't have to force one more conversation this week.

honestly this seems like they're not even aiming it at people who are actually in the tattoo community, it's for corporate tech bros who think they're better than tattooed people but still want a tattoo anyway
Nailed it. And I know tech bros. I am in Seattle and I am married to a developer(but not a bro!) These guys would never walk in a real shop to tell the truth. And it's out if Austin which is a tech hub so it tracks.
My thoughts exactly.
Agreed. I think that's exactly why they complain about tattoo parlors. They've had a bad experience because they have terrible vibes.
For real!! Why are we getting AI art/writing and tattoo bot before we get robot maids??
This
Make an AI robots the clean the ocean or sweep streets they don’t all have to be artists and screenwriters haha
They literally reference “generative art” which is AI and, by definition, stolen.
@@chojay13 Not to defend this but I assume the high price of the tattoo includes a licensing fee for the artwork. They did seem to be pretty clear one of their goals was to pay the artists, which is the only aspect of this I could even remotely get on board with lol
I felt the same way, as soon as deviantart was mentioned I knew this was gonna be a shit show in one form or another.

This is going to be popular for exactly 5 years. It’s amazing how many times I’ve seen people trying to convince the general public that their tiny, high detailed tattoos heal differently somehow, and how many times the general public believes them.

It's a device (akin to a tattoo printer), it's capable of more than just fine line.
Ok as a tattoo artist there are multiple things that I want to ask about this
- How much of the machine can you take appart/clean ? you'd be surprised where the blood and ink can end up.
Something something "the technology will mature" with some AI sprinkled all over
THESE WERE MY EXACT CONCERNS TOO!! (fellow tattoo artist here, an apprentice)
The fact that the founder said "whatever that process looks like" when referring to getting tattooed is SO telling
The way my jaw dropped when they labeled those two guys as tattoo collectors… for “tattoo talk” 😂 I cannot!!!
Maybe they collect photos of tattoos? That must've it, right?
I know, all I could think was "are the tattoo collectors in the room with us rn or???" I didn't even see the one singular tattoo the one had on the left for the majority of time they were talking

@@blackdot_tattoo You clearly don't have any understanding of how all this works. The experience of the actual tattooing is an important part of the process! Yes, it hurts, but we'll take it because that is how it is. And: my tattoos are for myself, not for compliments and conversations. OMG
@@blackdot_tattoo no one is getting something permanently etched onto their body for compliments! Especially if it’s only a couple of inches or less, no one can see that lol.
No, just no. You would still need a person in the room to supervise so what's the point! You are strapped down and what happens if you get lightheaded and need a break? You're feeling sick or have to go to the bathroom? Not only that but the boredom of being stuck in that clinical ass looking room. You form such a special bond with your tattoo artists and this is just a pale imitation and probably won't last long considering how expensive it is
@@blackdot_tattoo Someone's overly defensive...
@@blackdot_tattoo”bio breaks” 😂🙄 another super cool attempt to make it sound futuristic and exciting coming off as completely out of touch and flavorless.
@@blackdot_tattoo then why even do it? If you need a whole team of people just to make a subpar tattoo that will turn into a blob, why not just go to a single tattoo artist who has proof that they are good, that tattoos like that don’t fade or blend and that changes much much less? If you have to hire a whole team just to do one tattoo it will never be anything more than a fad for the rich.
I like that they think it is going to stay looking good because they got the ink in the 'perfect' spot. Like, dude, it took you twelve tries to just get a dot so it's not blown out and we're supposed to believe it's now tattooing in some magical ageless spot?
That constellation was with a prototype back in 2019, it was our first tattoo on human skin. We made that image and text available in our backstory book, it's not representative of where was are today.
@@blackdot_tattoo Do you have any evidence that this very expensive, tiny, high detail tattoos are not going to turn into unreadable blobs in less than 10 years?
@@blackdot_tattoo so you did art on people before you were ready? And expect us to not take the only five year old tattoo of yours into consideration? That is the only idea we have of how it ages.
@blackdot_tattoo the constellation you couldn't even identify correctly (it's Hercules, not Virgo 💀)
I used to chat with one of these guys at the dog park. I told him basically everything you said. He "just wanted to see what technology could do" and yes these people have no clue about the art and history of tattooing. They can't even conceive of the matters of soul that are intrinsic to creating art and one person applying it to another's skin. They're just like, "Yeah but the machine doesn't make mistakes." 🙄
"machine doesn't make mistakes" 🤣🤣
Like, this is how we're getting crashes from "self driving", people actually believing their machine won't make a mistake when they absolutely do.
They were so preoccupied with the science of how, they never stopped to question if they should do it
I also don't think they ever questioned _why_ they should
when tech bros came for therapy I knew that nothing was sacred
+1 to the list of people with tats that did not ask for this!
The images shown by this TH-camr are from our R&D facility, she lifted content from our origin story book and portrayed them as being current state.
@@blackdot_tattooexplain the vlog of the girl getting the Mona Lisa eyes tattoo then… that wasn’t “lifted” from your book…
Deviantart is just a joke now!
What you saw is not our retail experience, the TH-camr showed images of our R&D testing lab
@@blackdot_tattoo “the TH-camr” Lauren showed footage that you shared publicly. I didn’t see any indication on social media/website that that wasn’t the standard procedure for your tattoos. You might want to share a video of a “retail experience” to give people a better idea of your product.
It’s so funny to me how they speak of making tattoo experience more accessible and charge the ungodly amount of money for something that looks unimpressive as a sketch, not to mention a sad mess it’s inevitably going to turn into a couple years later
Hot take could be just me but: if you cant respect the history, dont be in the industry. There is cultural significance with tattoos, there is such a deep history throughout the world with tattooing, there is a reason tattoos have been around as long as they have been. And then this comes along and it honestly infuriates me as a tattoo artist, it takes away the human aspect of it. As a tattoo artist yes you are an artist, but your also a therapist, a friend, a shoulder to cry on, etc.. i do this because I love hearing people's stories and being able to be a small part of it and being able to give someone art that lasts forever is an incredible feeling!
I rather be told no by a tattoo artist or come up with a compromise and have a good looking tattoo in 10 years time than have a robot give me one and it looks like poo in 10 years
@@blackdot_tattoo Suuure... How can your guarantee that? Maybe you guys should learn something about ageing of the skin. That is false advertisement! It's just greed.
Tbh I think the technology is interesting, but I also agree with all of your criticisms and then you got to the prices - hoo boy, yep that's gimmick pricing alright because they know this is going to be a cash grab before people realise it's not great and won't last regardless! It massively reminds me of how all these silicon valley bros are pushing AI to steal human artist's work and rebrand it as something new and creative because the tech bros are basically just jealous that they aren't any good at art.

Tech bros back at it again thinking there's a problem needing solving that never existed in the first place and in fact cause everyone else to just be upset.
I LOVE that the actual official TH-cam account for this company is in your comment section attempting to defend themselves 💀
I got sad when I realized the tattoo designs were from my favorite smashing pumpkins album. This means they’ve gotten a license to use the art in their gimmick.
Also… the Virgo tattoo looks like mold
My jaw DROPPED when I saw the designs. I’ve contemplated getting something from that album art as a tattoo several times throughout the years. Think I’ll pass. 😬
Smashing Pumpkins used art from public domain.
No i said the same thing . I've been a pumpkins fan for almost 10 years and i've wanted (what they called) the star nymph design for years. I even found a local artist with a really beautiful art style who i might want to go to. But now it just feels scummy... like UGH :(
The Virgo tattoo is not even the correct constellation. It's Hercules...
The comments being turned off on so many of their posts says enough. I left a comment on one of their posts criticizing the concept and the disrespectful way they addressed tattoo artists like myself and was promptly blocked :/

I'm sorry but I got my entire back tattooed for a little less than $4k including tips! Just wow.

I laughed so loud when I got to the NFT part because OF COURSE that would be included what the hell techbros need to stop 😂
This reminds me of the tattoos they have in the 'Divergent' series. (Only that those are quite big and bold, not tiny.)
Tattooing is an experience it’s about the atmosphere and a human connection it’s a hand craft not for a machine
For you it might be, there are plenty of people that are open to something new and different.

They are based in Texas... that's cheap for that area. TX is the new CA. In my opinion, allegedly...
@@TotalEclipseOfTheSon well Texas seems to be the new comedy capital of the world and those robotat prices are certainly a joke.
five minutes in and im already wondering how much its going to cost long-term. its seems like it would be time-consuming trying to sterilize/maintain the machine while tattoo artists also juggle clients who cant be tattooed by the machine with things that also need to be sterilized/maintained (like a tattoo gun for example) and if ive learned anything from tattoo youtube time very much costs money for artists
Honestly, sometimes even experienced artists can cause some kind of trauma to the skin… what if the robot glitches? I hate this.
We have safeguards to prevent 'glitches'
@blackdot_tattoo what does that even mean?

Somebody making art personal to you and putting it on you is such a deep emotional process. So many of my clients have opened up to me so much and joke i am their therapist. That is what you remember the tattoo for, that is art. I may understand if you had many bad expiriences and are scared to search more, but with the staff at that place you could also have one. Of course they didnt have any heavily tattooed people to speak for them, because those know the emotional importance and lovely deep experience art and tattoos can do for you

I lost it when you showed the "hello world" tattoo because that is such a tech bro tattoo i can't even. For those who don't know it's the default line of code you get when you create a new code project.
She sits in the chair, the tattoo “artist” lays some sticky pads over the area, presses a button, and voila! tattoo…
This seems like what they’re are working towards.
@@blackdot_tattoo hey, how do you do that when you use "generative art"?
The fact it looks so clinical is one of the worst parts. Tattoo shops are such a vibe. I love looking around at all the artwork on the walls and seeing other tattooed people. Im an introvert but i would miss that connection between the art and the artist. Tattoo culture is lost on this completely.
The images shows are not from our retail studio, they are from our test lab
THANK YOU for not holding back and being visibly and vocally angry about this. Some people in different industries just decide to accept it and profit off it
As a tattooed tech guy (stereotypical Silicon Valley engineer), I’m theoretically the target audience. And hell no, if only for the obvious reason that these will look terrible in a few years.
Long-term, I wouldn’t worry though. The $3000-5000 price tag isn’t sustainable, and I highly doubt the cost of them building and maintaining these machines will drop enough for them to afford to open enough locations to make the investment worth it.
We'll have sub-$1k tattoos shortly
You’re not the target audience because you know how tattoos work and heal and age and all of that.
How nice of them to think that people who would steal and copy someone else's tattoos would instead go to them and pay for their overpriced tattoos. Like those people usually are taking tattoos/ artwork online and going to the cheapest place who will do the tattoo for them, not going to somewhere where they have to pay for 3000-5000 pounds
when the "tattoo collector" complained about the experience of getting a tattoo and then said TWO HOURS i fucking lost it hahahha
Matt got a Tyler Hobbs executed by the Blackdot device--he also left DA a decade ago. Nothing gimmicky going on.
@@blackdot_tattoo But it is a gimmick, a trend. It's made it any less scummy that y'all are making people pay $5K+ for a tiny tattoo that will end up just being a black blob on their body once it's healed.

I have a neighbor who would love this kind of tiny tattoo, same girl who looked at my chest piece and told me:
"So pretty, it must be hard to get a job though! I really want a little flower behind my ear someday."
Yeah it's really hard to get a job.. 😂
Sorry for the long ass comment, insomnia has me in its hideous grasp.
As someone who just got their first tattoo , im the most excited about the experience when getting my second one.
