I would probably denote in future videos which abilities were PvP only, like Glory Slash and Testudo, but overall I like how this turned out!
I'll try to clarify that next time.
Ahhh, that would explain why they didn't sound familiar 😮
@@rikkuster I only remember Testudo from the short time I tried Pally in Shadowbringers PvP c:
Great vid!! Was so glad to be a part of the project ^-^
I don't remeber all of these. But flash just unlocked repressed memories, holy damn.
Trust me, Flash is one of the actions I was most happy to see go. That shit was ass
@@Twocoolman115Frfr. I mostly morn only Cleric Stance.
I remember Flash well. I used it to keep the whole trash in the CT1-CT3 solo. Flash was very strong. Used correctly. I've never lost a mob. I remember my time in Realm Reborn well.
It's so cool hearing the sfx as well!
HE DID IT AGAIN
Any chance to have those for download? and Warrior's?
This series is one of my favorites
I'm bummed that Shield Swipe isn't in the game, a proc ability to react to on pld sounds fun. Was it oGCD?
From what I've been reading, it was an oGCD that could be used every 15 seconds after a block. It caused some issues as non-MTs were getting in the way to get hit just as an excuse to do some extra damage.
@@ParavantStudio XD Anything to max that parse.
@@ParavantStudio Simple solution, just have both tanks get hit every 15 seconds now. Not sure why they haven't done that before than remove a pretty fun skill.
LMAO I remember running dungeons spamming flash as I gather the mobs.
Thank you for putting this together! Very interesting to see the past of the game brought back momentarily.
Question about the shield slam ability. It mentions "pacifying" the enemy. What does that mean? Was that a status effect or was it an aggro dump?
"Pacification" is a weird status effect in the game. I have no idea if it still exists? ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Pacification
@@ParavantStudioit still does, it's the physical skills equivalent of mute, it still exists in a few ARR content including at least one guildhest
Pacification was a status effect that some mobs still have that removes your ability to do weaponskills and auto-attacks. Spells and abilities were still usable during it's duration, however. Shield Slam, the ability it's tied to, was the final ability you got as a Gladiator, taught by Aldis in the lvl 30 quest. It was the move he used that got him his many wins on the Bloodsands.
Kind of annoyed they removed it completely, rather than just tweaked it, but that's how that goes.
It's definitely still around in Palace of the Dead. Some of the traps in there will silence and pacify you, leaving only abilities able to be used until someone esunas both debuffs off of you.
Pacify is the physical version of Silence :P
I guess the versions of rampart and provoke that got removed were just slightly different versions of the ones we have now? I noticed that this rampart was 10% less DR than current rampart, but I couldnt see a difference between this voke and current voke
Provoke just improved enmity back then. Regular enmity spell. Now they automatically put you as the first choice even if the monster has the attention of a different tank.
Just a reminder that PLD could use stoneskin and cure on ARR
Man i miss savage blade and shield swipe 😢 savage blade for the visuals over Riot blade, shield swipe was fun to spam at times 😂
What is the Glamor used in this video, It looks awesome :O
It's one of the Fending sets from the Eden raid series!
What's the name of the sword ? I feel like I know it but can't find it
I have never heard of glory slash or testudo. Are those, like 1.0 abilities?
Those were PvP exclusive for a while.
Why am i able to watch this in 4k on my phone, my phone will explode
Didn't Pally used to have a weaponskill that inflicted a DoT?
They had three skills that applied DoTs:
- Circle of Scorn
- Goring Blade
- Blade of Valor
I agree bring back flash for pali
ok so replace combo move 1 with savage slash, same with aoe n glory slash n bring back flash and Paladin would be perfect
I think this is one of those "quality vs quantity" arguments. For example, I have four Jobs I got to 50 before 3.0. So I've been playing them all since at least 2.4, and CNJ/WHM I've been playing since 2.3 (I started just a bit before 2.4 dropped). My other three "legacy-lite" Jobs were SCH, SMN, and PLD.
I remember leveling PLD with the Flash-spam + 1-2 Riot Blade for MP (since Flash costed MP, you had to occasionally get more MP to keep up the spam). Flash was a very lore/thematic PLD ability, you might say, but while it inflicted enemies with Blindness (so it was a semi-mitigation), it did no damage. In the modern game, people would call you bad for using it instead of Total Eclipse (which you now get at level 6). And with Iron Will (Tank Stance) at level 10 (before any group content), your Total Eclipse will do what Flash did (agro generation for AOE enemy packs) while also dealing damage. So is Flash being removed from the game some horrible tragedy when no one, today, would be using it, and any who tried would be called bad?
You also have stuff like Tempered Will, which we still KIND OF have in the form of Arm's Length - would having a second button that only does KB immunity really be useful in the modern game? Sure WAR gets Inner Release's immunity but...is this REALLY a loss? - or...I forget the name, but the one that makes the PLD crit immune...but that's more or less baseline now in encounter design for Tanks and Tank Mastery kind of covers for that. Not to mention you have no way of telling if a crit would occur, so it made it kind of a crapshoot to use.
Offensive/Defensive stances have been removed, which is more a mixed result, but as the thread here last month discussed, most Tanks don't really miss the old enmity stance, and it was more an argument of how much you could stress your healers to stay in damage stance than it was amazing gameplay.
An alternate branching combo was a thing back then, but we also didn't have any of the magic spells, burst phase, or Atonement sub-combo stuff we have now. So it being removed isn't as damning as it might seem, not to mention a -2a vs -2b isn't exactly the most thrilling gameplay.
Convalescence I kind of miss, but then at this point in encounter design, healers have so many healing tools, I'm not sure we really NEED a relatively minor boost to healing received.
.
There are also actions we haven't really lost.
Provoke and Rampart are still there as Role Actions.
Shield Stance is still MORE OR LESS there as Iron Will (the damage reduction is baked into the Tank Mastery Trait and Iron Will is the agro generating component.)
Testudo is Divine Veil. And...a PvP action?
.
So overall, I don't think that we've really lost a ton in terms of removed actions.
Think it's important to denote, ARR was a completely different kind of game to what FFXIV is post Shadowbringers. It's like comparing Classic WoW to Retail WoW. The design is completely different. In classic MMOs, tanks tanked with threat and their primary purpose was mitigation, this was also the norm of MMORPGs of the time. The simplified world today of maximising damage above all else is a modern trend that took away all the challenge and risk of threat management and reactive mitigation.
@@cattysplat Pretty much. But that's kind of my point: Anything we've "lost" is due to the community and stuff wanting to axe it, or at least plenty of people and gaming trends. So we haven't really LOST a lot given that. At least on some Jobs.
Hehehe I clap cause flash.
The game has changed its design so much. Back then, tanks had skills that dealt damage and those that increased enmity, and they weren't the same. 2 different stances. Particular mitigation skills. Playing jobs was much harder back in the day. But bosses were also more straightforward.
Nowadays, it's the opposite. The 2-minute rotation is braindead. Meanwhile, the boss leaves so much piss in the arena you'd be lucky to dodge all of it.
I took a break after beating shadowbringers, and looking at how much more fun the jobs used to be deters me from picking it up again. Sure there's the savage and extreme content but why can't the main campaign and story progression have depth and challenge too? 14 just isn't for me anymore
@@matthewrobertson6249 That’s alright. To each his own. Become just a pure story player, lol.
Flash was trash, so bad at holding mob aggro. They buffed it several times but didnt do much, also did no damage too. Back then paladin didnt learn tank stance until LV40. So all thats those dungeons until then with no aggro mediator smh lol.
Trash? I didn't lose a mob because of it. I used it to keep the whole trash in the CT1-CT3 solo. Flash was very strong. Used correctly.
@nancys_gamezone7898 well I kept stealing aggro from gladiators that used it, when being dps or healer. Marauder didn't have that problem with overpowered. But what do you mean use correctly? I didn't start tanking until 2019 aggro rework. How could you use Flash incorrectly 🤔
Provoke still in the game what
It was once exclusive to PLDs only.
@@ParavantStudio how in the world did other tanks get aggro then?
@@Visibletoyou23 With their own skills, or by leveling a PLD alt to "share" that skill. Same way PLDs could use Cure if you also leveled a White Mage.
