  • I get lots of questions about this: what's good and bad about using a charter school? We're coming up on application time, so I made pro and con lists of everything I could think of to hopefully help you decide if the charter life is what you want for your homeschool!

    Fellow believer mama here. I am also located in Southern California and have considered this exact charter school. My son will be entering first grade. This fall. This was really helpful. Thank you so much for this content. ❤

    I couldn't bring myself to charter school, but I do see the advantage of charter school (and the negatives).
    Thanks for sharing the advantages of charter school.

    Not sure how I missed this video! Praying God continues healing your back! 🙏🏻 as another homeschool charter mom, I really enjoyed your pros and cons to schooling with a charter in CA. Our school in Northern CA, is much more lenient as I’ve shared before. We meet with our homeschool teacher every 20 days and turn in one work sample from just a specific subject within that learning period. It would definitely be so much harder for us to turn in weekly samples from every subject across the board with multiple kids. The funding is unreal though and that pro outweighs the state testing that’s required. I know we wouldn’t be able to independently homeschool on our own the way we’d like to.
    Science has become a tricky subject as a family with a Christian worldview. Our “teacher” is amazing though and even walked me through how we can purchase our own curriculum and how to turn in samples even into the high school years. Our school is also very strict about sample not being from religious companies. Again, thank you for sharing! 🫶🏻

      I'm so late but you said Northern CA. Which part? I'm in the Bay and we're looking at opening and operating a Charter School as well

      Which school do you use? I’m in the Central Valley and I want to use The Good & The Beautiful but it’s religious so I’m not sure if the charter will accept it for samples.

      We use a charter through Sequoia Grove. They have smaller charters through them. They cover northern CA. Because charter schools are public, they cannot accept any religious work samples. So basically, for us if we choose to use a religious curriculum, we need to purchase it ourselves and we can basically rewrite the workbook page (printed or handwritten) with the answers to turn in as a work sample.

    Thanks for the video ☺️. I really learned a lot. After watching your video, I see why this would work. I kinda like the accountability part but I also seems like you give over a lot of control. I don't like that part. Funny thing though, I see it working for one of my kids but not the other. Can people do that?

      You can absolutely enroll one kid and not another! I’ll in all likelihood take my kids out of the charter as they get to high school because our charter only does online classes for high school and I don’t want to do that 🤷🏻‍♀️

    How much does Sage Oak fund?

    We are with sage oak as well, and we really like it. I don't pay attention to the school calendar at all. The testing is the worst part, i hate that. But aside from that we really like being enrolled.

      Can you sign a paper and opt out of the testing??

      @@JDubGirl technically, maybe? I know you can in public school. But its part of your condition of being enrolled and in the master contract. Its really not a huge deal, just annoying.

    How long are your school days?

    • @homeschoolatheart
      @homeschoolatheart  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If we just do what’s required from the school, we can be done in about 2 hours! We usually do some extra enrichment type things though so we typically do about 3-3.5 hours a day, four days a week

      @@homeschoolatheart thank you for replying back. I really really appreciate it. Im thinking of homeschooling my kids and but I’m nervous that it will be too much for me to handle but it seems that if you have a schedule you should be fine right?
