    Really glad that Greg Judy put you on his channel or I may have gone years longer before I'd found your channel. If only I was younger and had more energy and time.

    Thanks for sharing a video on this topic. We've had an incredibly wet summer and I have a few spots like the one you showed. Working on long rest periods to help spots like those recover.

      It has been a challenging year!!! If I need to go back into a pasture before those spots are recovered. Little bit of portable fence keeps the livestock off those spots.

    On our Alberta native pastures. The best grass was where the cows pounded it to sand waiting by the gate for us to drive them home in the fall. Nice and tall and green when we brought them back in May.

    Any tips for dealing with nimblewill? I'm a new grazer and have a small flock of 12 sheep on about 3 acres. We bought our property 2 years ago and got sheep about 18 months ago. It previously was an overgrazed horse pasture. When we got it the weeds were 8-10' high. We started by brush hogging and mowing before we got sheep. This summer (second summer with livestock) we've noticed loads of nimblewill. Unfortunately we don't have enough animal pressure to keep up with grass and all our forage constantly goes to seed - which wouldn't be bad if we didn't have such a nimblewill problem. Any suggestions?

    This is a great video! Loved your chainsaw video too I’ve been using canola oil for a few months now.

      How's the canola oil working for you? I have some more chainsaw videos coming up soon.

    Thanks again for all your videos! Can you plant ARG anytime of the year? I have a few spots that need to be seeded. I was going to plant some clover seeds and ARG and a few perennial grasses too.

      ARG can be planted most any time. Just not when it's really dry and hot.

    Russ, where your cows gather to rest, is there a lot more manure and urine deposited there that would help these type of trampled areas come back? Would it have been valuable, when you noticed this damage, to have covered it with some old hay to put temporary armour on top again (plus the residual seed in the hay)?

    • @RussWilson
      @RussWilson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there a lot more manure. I don't worry about covering with hay. It will grow back fine without the cover. Maybe a like bit slower. But if it really really bad hay is a great option. Thanks for watching!!

    Great video… knowing you would be gone those days did you let that area grow out to allow for additional (extended) graze time?

      We usually have a rest of 100 plus days on our pastures.

    Hi Russ what what kind of minerals are you feeding? Thanks

    • @RussWilson
      @RussWilson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John we mix our own minerals. We test the plants and adjust the minerals for the deficiency in the plants. I just did a video on our mineral program. It will be coming out soon. Here's the link to the video th-cam.com/video/BhneevDZons/w-d-xo.html . Thanks for watching Russ
