    Looked a bit of fun mate. Enjoyed your breakdown of what was going on with the ol girl from first glance to getting it moving. I love how the commodores are just so simple really. Its good thing you turned the light switch off so as not to drain the battery you funny bugger 😂. Look forward to seeing more vids about this vy. Cheers 👍

    You seemed relieved to hear it’s the gearbox that’s broken, I’m not sure about prices on motors/box’s where you are but near me motors are much cheaper than getrags here!

    • @cassarindustries_wheelwerk
      @cassarindustries_wheelwerk  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I was relieved as I also have a VY drift car which has a getrag. As these gearbox’s are fragile to say the least, I currently own 5 spare ones in varying condition. So can just grab another one grub the shed and swap it over. Wherever the come up for cheap I usually grab them.
      But thanks for watching mate

    I have a 2002 model VY SS Commodore which I bought 17 years ago this year & yes it's a V8 one, it has done 402,500 kilometres now & I want to fit a rebuilt diff & replace the clutch likely on the Easter & Anzac Day holidays &; long weekends, the clutch just has a shudder when I release the clutch when the engine is hot & it's not the rear transmission mount which is causing it, it only does it when the engine is thoroughly warmed up.
    The diff has a bit of a clunk & whine in it at 60 km/h & it leaks a bit of diff oil now, I have a spare 3.07:1 ratio Dana M80 diff out of a VZ Commodore which is a single spinner,I will change it over to the 3.91:1 ratio & fit a torque lock diff centre as well.
    280,000 kilometres is nothing for even the 3.8 litre Buick L36 Ecotec V6 engine because my dad replaced his in his 2000 model Holden VX Commodore in 2017 because he thought that it would be cheaper & easier than just getting an exchange set of cylinder heads for it because he ran it on LPG & the exhaust valve seats receded.
    He was worried that the engine might go at 380,000 kilometres & yet the VX is sitting under a car port doing nothing because he's driving his Holden Colorado everywhere.
    My point is he changed the oil & filter once every 5000 kilometres & the engine didn't blow smoke, the replacement engine was out of a 2004 model VY Commodore & he decided to replace the 4L60E transmission with one out of one of them as well because he thought that it might go as well.
    I certainly prefer driving the SS Commodore because it has more power particularly with the twin 2.5 inch cat back exhaust system, high flow cats (200 cpi) & 1 5/8" primary mandrel bent Genie exhaust headers as well as a tune.
    I had some press bent Custom headers which made them 1 1/2" primaries instead of 1 5/8" so the Genie headers has given the LS1 V8 engine a power band which comes in in the mid RPM range up to redline which is what that engine didn't have before with the Old exhaust headers !

      VZ headlights are flat on the bottom, they don’t have then dimple for the Parker lights.

    Just sounds like the thrust bearing, not the hardest fix

    • @cassarindustries_wheelwerk
      @cassarindustries_wheelwerk  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Unfortunately in the gearbox mate.
      We got the car on the hoist and went to drain the oil. Not a drop of oil was in the box, and bits of bearings came out. Thrust bearing also wouldn’t cause the gearbox to jam in gear. But we run a VY V6 drift car (full build on the channel) which has a getrag. So we have 5 spare getrag gearboxes!

      True. I also have a VY drift car which runs a getrag. As a result, I have about 6 spare getrag gearbox’s! So was happy to find out that’s what it was.

    Could of clipped the bar back up and would of been sweet and it’s the clutch not the box mate save you the headache because you don’t seem to clicked on with them

    • @cassarindustries_wheelwerk
      @cassarindustries_wheelwerk  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Wasn’t possible mate. Both sides of the bar that clip into the bar slides are broken off the bumper. So the part of the bumper that clips into the slides is missing.
      Also the clutch is fine. He had a clutch put in it shortly before it was parked. We have had the car on the hoist at our workshop and there was no oil in the gearbox. When we took the drain plug out all that came out was parts of bearings and not a drop of oil.
      I’ve been a mechanic for 26 years, 13 of them was at a Holden dealership. So actually
      I do know these cars inside out. Clutch noise is quite different to gearbox noise, but over video is extremely difficult to tell.
      Thanks for the feedback though

      Unfortunately not thrust bearing. We later went to drain the oil in the gearbox and there wasn’t a single drop of oil in it. All that came out was small bits of bearings. Lucky we have quite a few spare getrags kicking around so we will get to it at some stage.

    As for it being manual it’s understandable
    But the body and 3.8 ….huge turn off
    They don’t handle turbos very well, (n/a sucks) if it’s t5 3rd gear will disappear after 1 year of daily driving not to mention burnouts 😅
    It was probably left there for a reason 😢
    Might be a skid hack at best or you’ll be loosing money like a 80yo loosing hair 🫠

    • @cassarindustries_wheelwerk
      @cassarindustries_wheelwerk  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching and for the feedback mate.
      T5’s went out on series one VS. series 2 Vs onwards we’re all getrags. Having said they they are weak as piss! I have a Vy V6 drift car (full build on the channel) which runs a getrag. But whenever getrags come up cheap I try to grab them. Currently have 6 spare ones!
      We’ve done a few turbo eco’s over the years and generally can make over 250rwkw with stock internals (just valve springs) with a good fuel system and tune on 98 octane. Have seen several others make over 300rwkw on E85 also with stock internals. The 3.8 is a much more reliable and durable engine than the later 3.6 Alloytecs. But that’s just my opinion, however I was a mechanic for Holden for over 14 years and have worked on plenty of both
