Love the brake pad idea! I just finished replacing the buttons you referred to. The old ones had brake pad material in them. The new ones (from Hamiltonbobs) had what looks like a wooden dowel in them. I cut the grass once, and had to adjust them already. I could smell burning wood when I stepped on the clutch 😞
you know that the drive shaft moves forward in the coupler right remove the one bolt on the coupler on the engine and the shaft should freely slide forward enough to remove the drive shaft completely, they do seize up over time so once you get it free clean and grease it up good then its one bolt to remove the drive shaft

Very nice; I might do the same. I just replaced my clutch & bearings. I didn't do anything with the break though.
