    Thank you so much for taking the time to make a great and informative video... Thankfully my Jag is identical to yours!
    Mine sprung a vicious leak that took ages to identify where it was coming from... So thankfully your video mentioned the drain plug... and that was the cause of the leak.

      @simonpickering3609 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leaks are hard to find as the water evaporates so fast with a hot engine which you need so the pressure reaches its normal , get it to running temp and lift the revs to 3 and have a good look at each water connection ,be methodical ,,pls don't put radweld in as it makes a right old mess inside the engine ,the heater matrix is the first to block , but can you imagine what happens when it passes or doesn't through mixer units CVVs where you can have dif temps left or right side ,if it doesn't do something to those units then I shall eat my ears :) A Jag is for life not just Xmas .. Santa said ..

    I'm sure you've been asked this before but where do you place the axle stands when jacking up the jag?

    • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the front I jack up on the chassis rails using blocks of wood to protect the metal. At the back I jack up under the spring plates. If you are changing the rear springs you need a jack in the middle as well. I never use the sill jacking points as they will collapse.

    Thanks for a great really helpful video, it certainly helped me, I would make two suggestions that may make it a bit easier and I think that point about the bumper is right too (I did remove mine though)
    1) You had a big problem removing the hose clip from the top hose. You can remove the clip and break the hose at the tee piece that is the Thermostat housing and also the overflow pipe can be split at a connector by the battery and then both pipes fitted to the new radiator whilst it is off the car.
    2) Remove the Fans and housing with the radiator but remember to unplug the two connectors first .

    • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good advice. I would hesitate to disconnect the tee-piece myself as they are notorious for breaking.

      All I did was run the engine from cold for two minutes without the header tank cap on. Then let it rest for a couple of minutes and then top it up. repeat if necessary. If all the air doesn't come out then there must be an air leak somewhere.

    I have just done my 2006 X type .
    A few tips ,
    Cable tie the air con condenser to the bonnet lock , Before you undo the transmission cooler ( there could be a cable tie on the n/s so have a look ) , cut it off if there is .
    Tip 2 The top radiator hose can be left on the radiator . Disconnect it from the plastic T piece The thin hose can be pulled of with the clip on You can take the hose off when it is out !. Put it back on with the clip at 3 o clock looking at the front of the car m Or facing the drivers side that way you can get at it if you need to do it again !.
    Disconnect the fans and lift them out of the clips . The fans should come out with the radiator , With a bit of jiggling , The radiator is fucked any way , That you are taking out .
    Rest of it is just the reverse .
    In Australia
    we don't have the corrosion problem with bolts as you do in the UK and US ETC ,
    i recommend changing the hoses and thermostat as well ( top and bottom )

    • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @johnnysevengun

      I had to look up jackleg which I take to mean a bad mechanic. In the UK it costs a fortune to have Jaguar fix your car. As you can see from my video it can be done yourself with minimal tools which means a good local car mechanic should be able to do you a good price. I would recommend you have the radiator replaced - you can get a pattern part.

    Unfortunately, it is not necessary to remove the front bumper to remove and replace the radiator. I removed and replaced the radiator on an 2002 x type sport without removing the bumper. I simply jacked up the car and removed the radiator from below. Replacing the radiator is certainly not a simple task.

    • @johnnysevengun

      Unfortunately? Maybe you mean fortunately? I took the bumper off to put on a new grille and that makes it so much easier to get at all the fastenings. And very much clearer for making a video about it.

    Hi. 58 reg, SE diesel. 96,000 miles. Went out last this last Friday night and there was a horrible burning smell. I thought someone was burning something so I carried on. A few miles later the battery light came on so I turned round and headed home. Everything went pear shaped. The sat nav screen went blank, the ABS light came on, the airbag light came on, the low fuel light came on and the speedo needle started to wave at me and the indicaters started beeping. The lights started to dim. I got pipped at as I struggled to reach home but then it came to a juddering stop. Battery flat as a pancake. I walked home about half a mile.
    Day after with another old battery fitted it still wouldn't start and the alternator started to smoke! It was recovered and is awaiting its fate outside our bungalow. I shudder to think what this will cost. I'm 70 so fixing this is beyond me so it needs, some how, taking it to my regular garage. Recovery man reckons the battery is knackered and so is the alternator.
    This is quite a shock. I've had other X types and all sorts of cars but have never been left stranded. I'll keep you posted of the outcome. Cheers.

    • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you are alright. By coincidence my brother's Citroen Picasso Diesel caught fire and was completely burnt out only three days ago. He was unhurt but there does seem to be spate of diesel cars catching fire.

    • @derektaylor6713
      @derektaylor6713 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could just be one of them things but I suppose if you've got an alternator in your car and it fries, the car could still go up in smoke whether diesel or petrol. In fact, I'd say that there's more chance of a burn out with a petrol car as diesel is difficult to light whereas petrol, if ignited, could turn your car into a explosive fireball. I guess I was lucky it wasn't worse. If the battery light had come on our drive before I set off I wouldn't have set off and knackered the battery up. One bloke on TH-cam says a faulty alternator could damage the car's computer. Yikes! It looks a really awkward job compared to the Hillman Hunter I had in the seventies. You could almost stand inside the engine compartment and work on the car. Nowadays there's more room in Ann Hegerty's knickers than in a modern engine compartment lol. Thanks for the reply.

    X pat hellos from california. So, I was lucky, my bumber was bolted in, not welded. I made the mistake of using a 1/2 drive socket on the first nut, and it rounded, well not quite, thought I had enough. I put liquid wrench on them and got them off with a proper impact wrench and heavy duty socket, I'd recommend anyone to not do it less you have those. I had to chisel off the nut, and it's still stuck on their but got the bolt out. Did it the old navy way. Everything was rusted at sea. lol

    As an aircraft engineer the design of these cars ASTOUNDS ME! It is ‘back to front’! I have to replace my rad now as my car was in storage for 10 years before i got it! These ‘Jaguars’ have an awful reputation, i previously had Volvos and had ONE fault in 5 years and the most expensive one cost me £1800! I had to fit a new turbo and exhaust then she ran right up until i had to scrap her with nearly 200k on it! The Xtype........pretty much a major fault every 6 months! But i was given the car free so what can you do 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @johnnysevengun
      @johnnysevengun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The quality of the storage must have been exemplary - I would have expected dozens of things to go wrong in that time - rust, failed electrics, bearings, perished rubbers etc. I am impressed. £1800 to fix a Volvo? I could by a decent X Type for that. I agree about the design though - it was the worlds first completely automated build - I even met the man who designed the assembly line. The cars were only designed for a six year life so yours is doing very well.
