  • In this video I will be showing you how I build a fire with a natural tinder called Old Man's Beard and my BPS Adventurer with the Ferro Rod it came with.
Usnea longissima, also known as Old Man’s Beard, is now considered rare in the United States due to pollution and loss of habitat, but it is still found in the Pacific Northwest from Northern California to Alaska. It is also found along the Canadian border in the Great Lakes region and all the way to the Atlantic Coast. If it happens to be abundant in your area like it is in my part of the Pacific Northwest, try using it as a tinder with your Ferro Rod. The results are amazing.
