good video. friendly tip would be to cut the stump as low as you can with a chainsaw. will be much quicker per inch than a grinder and expedite the job if efficiency is a factor

I rented the 30sg and did about 12 stumps. I had a couple of big oaks , maybe 2 feet diameter. The rest were small 1 foot or so, $320 for the day but I could keep it all weekend.

Carson… I was building a pad for a pole barn. There was a 10” diameter cherry stump that I needed to grind out. It was cut off 2” above and I wanted to get it 2” below ground…. So, I went to the orange big box and rented their stump grinder.
I think it was a ?Toro?… the cutter was about 10” in diameter. The frame was mounted on two itty-bitty ag tread tires. It had a power forward and back but the side to side was all muscle. You had to set the brake every time you began to cut or it threw itself back at you. The brake actually locked one wheel so you were pivoting the whole machine on each pass.
To top it off, it only cut about it 1/8” deep per pass. Any more and the engine bogged down. Hit a rock and it stalled….
I spent 6 hours on that one stump… the guy at the rental place had told me it should take about a half hour. In disgust, I loaded it up and returned it.
A different dude was behind the counter… when I told him my experience he said, “Yeah, that sounds about right. 10” is pushing the limit of this machine
I asked him why they didn’t rent me a bigger machine…. His answer…. “We always try to save our customers money when we can.”
Carson, I wish I’d have seen this video first…. I’d have called you and got your advice!!

I’ve used bigger stump grinders in the past. This one did pretty good. I found the biggest one I could because of the quantity and size of stumps.

Cherry stumps are pretty damn hard I have broken carbon tip grinder teeth on cherrie stumps the wood seems to get petrified fresh sharp teeth make all the difference in the world

Might be fuel injected? Are you serious? The choke is right next to the key. Also it wouldn’t be possible to start 30hp motor with out electric start

It’s a nice machine but for little stumps no bigger than a foot in diameter. I did a 30 inch freshly cut red oak stump and took me all day (at least 8 hrs)

Wow! Yes it can certainly get tedious on the larger stumps. To be honest for a stump diameter 50% larger it is equal to 2x the surface area. So a 30” stump has the same size surface area as two 20” stumps.

I rented one of these badboys today at Home Depot. Because the teeth are so dull, it's taking forever to get through a stump. I constantly have to lift the head slightly to decrease the bite.
Im asking for a discount 😡

That’s why I rent from a local rental place and not Home Depot. Cost is generally the same and they are usually better on the maintenance.
