  • RC Pit-Stop EP27 - ARRMA Kraton Repair and Talion Comparison
    After giving my Talion a hard time at the track I managed to blow out a bearing and bend a driveshaft. As I wanted to quickly get the Talion up & running again ASAP, I decided to strip my Kraton of some parts to fix the Talion. Turns out these two share a lot of parts but there are a few that set them apart. I show you this in this video and explain the differences.
    Thank you for watching and hope you enjoyed the video.
    Parts replaced:
    Composite Front Steering Block - AR330187
    Ball Bearing 15x21x4mm - AR610018
    CVD Driveshaft set 174.5mm - AR220031
    Battery Tray Set - AR320192

      Agreed. I love my v3 Kraton and it has been amazing for 2 years but lately I've been wanting to go the track and still bash. I just recently finished putting Talion shocks and towers on my Kraton. Also I'm running a Jconcepts Tekno body which looks badass and sleek. Looking back, I should of just bought the Talion and saved a bit

    My typhon has been taking a beating and just keeps going. Only problem I've had is the batteries moving. Had one move up and got the battery wire caught in the sprout gear and tore it apart. I use 2 3s 5200mah and they don't fit snug. Just looking for was to adjust it. I'll mess around with some things.

    My new arrma kraton v2 run on 4s has a bent front prop shaft! I didn't even go as crazy as arrma would like! This happened today out of the box, maybe it was bent on arrival? I noticed tho the truck does bleed a lot of power to the front with the diff tho, wheelies on 4s just isn't really possible

    Is it just me, or are the shocks longer on the talion? Is it just how you have them mounted or do you have the droop adjusted on the kraton to limit how far the arms go down?

    I know this is an older vid and the V3 Talion is now out but do the Kraton and Talion share the same diffs? I've heard the Talion basically has Typhon diffs with the 13 tooth input gear and the Kraton has Outcast diffs with the 10 tooth. Maybe b/c of bigger tires on the two. I have the Outcast, Typhon and Truggified Typhon. I'd love to get a V3 Talion and "Kratonify" it with the hubs, axles and Back flip tires. Just not sure if the diffs could take it...Love your channel bro!! Keep them coming!

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. I haven't checked the input gears on both, but I'm sure you'll find the answer to that question in the ARRMA website and look up the manuals for both. The diffs should take it regardless as long as you gear correctly for the size of tyres and driving style you plan to do. Thanks for watcging. :)

    Hey Vas any problems with running these 2 on 6s? I have a E revo brushless and I would strip a diff every single run on 5s n 6s even with aluminum diff cups. I'm getting so frustrated with it I'm thinking about selling it and getting the Talion.

    Shock towers are different also. Lower on the Talion

    • @AussieRCPlayground

      That is correct, but only since the V3 cars were released. The V1 and V2 cars had the same shock towers.

  • @pantag2
    @pantag2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why someone would buy a Talion over a Kraton? Coming from an old Revo 2.5 and I am entertaining the idea of a truggy. Is it handling? Speed? I would think bigger tires and ground clearance would be more fun in the dirt. Around $500, what else should I look? Leaning away from Traxxas. HPI seems good but my understanding is that ARRMA is better. (not racing, just occasional bashing). Noticed the new 2018 Talion is coming out early October 2017.

    • @AussieRCPlayground

      You may have steering issues as the short arms on the Typhon will limit steering angle due to the wheels hitting the body. That's what I'm thinking will happen.

    Man there close never had a arrma but there shit came a long way what's the best arrma basher in your mind you had them all I'm thinking of a outcast or talon or crayton I like the savage flux and I think the outcast will be similar were as the crayton probably is more erevo feeling can you give me your opinion what's the best basher and why , there's also the fazon on and Neuro shit help me out

    • @olds97lss
      @olds97lss 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can tell you for a fact that the flux isn't much like any of arrma's rigs. All of arrma's are basically truggies, which are waaaaaaaaaaay easier to work on. A buddy of mine has a talion and I have a brushless revo and savage flux. I envy his talion for simplicity, but it slaps the ground hard off the jumps. Which is fine in the dirt and grass, but is very harsh on it at a skate park. Still, I'd consider getting an outcast just for the simplicity of it, and I like shorter trucks. They are more twitchy, especially at speed, but for a basher, that's part of the appeal. I don't spend much time at WOT, so going fast over a long distance doesn't matter much and I don't race, so handling doesn't matter much. Durability and easy to work on are higher on my list.

    I bought 2 arrma typhons online used for $450. Came with 5 sets of tires and 4 3s lipos, on my first day of running one of them, the esc went up in smoke. So then i put in the other esc from the other typhon, and i have been running on that for a good month, today, i plugged my 2 3s batteries in and i herd a pop and i could smell the esc was burnt. The fan still turns on but no throttle. The motor is fine cuz i tested both of them. Im done with the blx 180 esc

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL. You bought two cars for the price of one and you're upset? If you had the original purchase receipt you can get both ESCs replaced at no cost, under warranty. I don't see why you should give up on these cars. I have 3 of them using the same original electrics and only one ESC failed which was replaced under warranty. Since then the NEW ESC has been performing flawlessly. Don't give up them, they're great cars. ;)

    I know you have had decent luck with these and may others have as well, but I think these ARRMA vehicles are garbage. My brother bought both the Kraton and the Talion and both of them have fried receivers, servos, and ESC's. My Yeti XL came with the same radio/receiver and I had to swap it out because the receiver was pumping out like 7 volts as opposed to 4.8-6 and fried my steering servo in minutes. I feel really bad for my brother since it's his first 2 RCs. Me personally, I'm not impressed at all.

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      GamerNRetro I've only had the one ESC go out on my Kraton and that was replaced under warranty. Since then I've had no issues and couldn't recommend these cars enough. Great value, durability, speed, handling and ARRMA have great customer service to boot. Couldn't ask for more from these cars and the company that makes them.It's unfortunate that you've had such bad luck with yours and to have both cars with issues, I could only image would be extremely frustrating and disappointing. But yours must be a rare case to be so unlucky and I would highly recommend getting in contact with ARRMA or one of their distributors and get it sorted out. Their customer service is excellent.

    • @warmfreeze
      @warmfreeze 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +GamerNRetro um ...some BECs pump out 7.4-8.6v...it generally has nothing to do with the receiver...it is your job to know the difference and use high voltage digital servos to handle the extra voltage.....the receiver itself doesn't care what voltage it runs at..the receiver is basically just a switching pass through..
      You can also program some ESC/BEC to support higher voltage high resolution servos. I race A main truggy and buggy. i use 7.4v servos.
      ARRMA isn't junk ..your lack of research has made them junk. :)

    • @GamerNRetro
      @GamerNRetro 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      warmfreeze um when the product comes as a RTR and it's messing and blowing up servos and the ESC. I understand there are high voltage servos but the included electronics are clearly not high voltage. I still stand behind my statement that they are junk.

    I hear NON stop how these 1/8 Arrmas are MUCH tougher then Traxxas (in general)
    Then you find thousands of vids of people that own them a day or few..and have to rebuild diffs and other things.
    I go months or years on my traxxas and never break/fix anything ( granted, I dont do dumb things)
    is the 6x just tearing them up? OR are parts junk?
    Not hating, just saying..seems like people get 1-5 runs on these and have to work on them for 20 hours and spend 1000$ on parts.

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +BOOSTEDLASER
      I’m not sure what you’re referring to, specifically, but I personally would own any ARRMA over any Traxxas any day of the week. Traxxas are known for being weak and the only reason Traxxas is alive today is due to their parts support, which no doubt is where they make most of their money. Their cars are old, dated designs and have been superseded by various other brands over the years. And yes, I’m speaking from experience having owned several Traxxas vehicles myself.
      Not sure how you calculated “$1000” on ARRMA parts, there aren’t enough aftermarket parts available to total that amount even if you buy some of them twice. If you do your research correctly, you’ll find that most people don’t need to do anything to these cars for them to last. While with Traxxas cars, well, I’ve never met anyone that has a Traxxas vehicle that’s still stock, they’ve all been modified or upgraded in some way to make them last.
      No, 6S is not tearing these cars up. In fact, they feel right at home on 6S. The thing that you might be overlooking is that a lot of people that own these cars don’t know how to treat them and think that a $500 RC is meant to be indestructible. So they grab their phone, film themselves complaining about it and upload it to TH-cam for guys like you to watch. I’ve seen these types of videos, I know what people say and I know what’s right and what’s not. Now, in my case, I push these cars to their limit and beyond to see what they can handle - it’s what my channel is about. So yes, repairs will happen from time to time, but under “normal” use, these ARRMA cars outperform the competition. Just my opinion... and let’s not forget your commenting on a video that’s quite old. The cars in this video were the first version of these cars, ARRMA has just released the V3 versions which are a hell of a lot better.
      Lastly, you say you haven’t broken anything on your Traxxas but don’t do “stupid stuff”. Well, no surprises there, even if you had a $100 RC from K-Mart and don’t do stupid stuff with it, chances are it will still be in one piece after a few years.

      Ty for reply
      Traxxas Tac Unit is a new design =P honestly I kinda like it
      So in short, Arrma ( 1/8 anyway) are fine..these vids are dumb users doing dumb things..and posting it =P
