Shout out for Slivers! I was 12-yo around the time Slivers came back in Time Spiral block, I strengthened my sense of Community, "sharing is caring" and altruism due to those very lizardly Slivers! I've loved them ever since, especially Gemhide Sliver. From a biological (and genetical?) aspect, they are marvelous wonders to me ^_^ I would love a lore video about the Riptide project :D
I've been in magic for right at a year now and have been playing standard and just made my first commander deck so I don't know much about magic history and this video was awesome. Learning about how the game came about and changed is crazy. Please keep this series going!
Thanks for the trip on Memory Lane, Wedge. I started playing when Tempest came out through the Urza's Block. Then quitted and came back to Magic this year. Sure wish I would still have my cards from back then.
I'm so happy you're continuing this series! I was too young to play Magic during many of the early sets, so I enjoy learning more about the history of the game. Keep up the good work, Wedge! :) Can you finish the Time Spiral block for the next installment?
Man watching vids like these force me to look back into my old collection. So I dug out my Tempest collection and darn the luck I only have three wastelands. So close to having a full set.
I started playing Magic in the Tempest block and holy crap was it a hot time in magic. I remember reading Scrye magazine for tips and combos and how powerful sligh red was at the time. Flash forward to the last pro tour, and the more things change...
I remember buying a booster box or two of tempest, at a game shop in The Crystal City Mall. It was the last set I bought before getting out of the game for the first time.
I had that buried Alive deck back then with those cards and ashnod's altar's, urburg justices, Necrosavants. Even splashed white for a while with ivory gargoyles, wrath of gods and inheritance.
I’m honestly surprised you didn’t mention Goblin Bombardment. It was originally printed in Tempest and has become one of the most iconic sac outlets in commander, up there with Ashnod’s Altar. It was even in the Prossh precon.
The key card in my angel deck is from Tempest. Flickering Ward!!! Paired with shrine to nyx and signal of the empty throne or celestial ancient it's gets pretty disgusting fast. Even splashed a little blue mainly for stormscape familiar but also for some sage of hours combo-age
Been a while since you have done these episodes. Cool series. Keep it up. It would be interesting to see you do one on either Rise of the Eldrazi, Worldwake, or Mirrodin Besieged.
So nostalgic watching this video...other than Innistrad and Lorwyn...this is one of my favorite blocks in Magic...Hard to believe i was middle school when this was in standard...I'm 32 going on 33 now lol
Tempest will forever go down as leaving everyone scratching their heads figuring out how the hell Humility and Opalescence work together. Practically THE rules nightmare.
Tempest block was amazing, still think I should have bought the sliver deck instead of the Exodus precon ''Dominator''. LOL Forgot how awesome the art on Ashen Ghoul was. Selenia, Dark Angel makes my opponents groan in my Oloro edh deck:P
how does the "creature cards above it" rule work now? can you just position you're creature's to you're need or is it "as long as there are three other creatures in you're graveyard"?
I was watching this, super excited about having a new best cards ever. Then, while sitting at my desk, I hear this loud jangling. It wasn't just any jangling, it sounded almost...robotic. Suddenly, this jangling automaton appeared in my door, looking in utter robotic sadness at my screen as it read the title of this video. It started whirring as its voice program started. "ERROR: THIS IS NOT ABOUT WORST CARDS EVER! DO NOT FORGET JANGLING AUTOMATON AND IT'S WORST BROTHERS AND SISTERS!" Please TMS, you need to make a new Worst Cards Ever. You made a jangling automaton cry. I hope you're satisfied.
funny story: I opened a ton of Tempest when it came out (slivers!) and HATED pulling wasteland. As a filthy casual I didn't have any nor did any of my friends have any amount of non-basics. I ripped a threw away at least a playset of that card.
I don't know but Wedge saying Wasteland the epitome of Tempest just feels wrong, its just a rework of Strip Mine after all. Just like Time Warp is a rework of Time Walk. Personally I think Capsize ("with buyback") is the most tempest thing ever.
Not a huge fan of the best card being a strictly worse strip mine, especially when unique and powerful cards like reanimate are kicking around, but my guess was petal which admittedly has the same problem when compared to papa lotus.
Jesus, will you people shut the hell up about 'Worst Cards Ever'? We get it, it's a great series. But does the same damn joke need to be made literally hundreds of times on every single video TMS puts out? It's getting really damn old. Wedge, you keep doing what you do, man. One of the best channels on TH-cam, no matter what you put out.
So, Tempest is pretty important, since it's the start of the Weatherlight crew assaulting Ye Olde Phyrexia, Vampire curse taking effect, and the Weatherlight crew, or what's left of them, hit that Planar Gate. In terms of Standard, it was pretty important, since it made Mono-Red more fantastic, and also delivered cards to be continuously enjoyed in Modern and Commander. And for those of you clamoring for more Worst Cards Ever, I do believe Wedge has got your back, because Tempest introduced Slivers... Cuz, ya know, those things are nasty and if you have a friend playing a Tribal Sliver deck, they won't remain your friend for very long. Yeah, Slivers, Worst Cards without being Worst Cards.
do cards like ashen ghoul just count how many other cards there are in you're graveyard, or do you actually have to stack you're creatures to be able to cast him from you're graveyard?
Hope you enjoy the return of Best Cards Ever! If you want us to showcase a specific set, let me know! :)
TheManaSource Do a best cards ever for Stronghold.
TheManaSource so wheres the Worst cards ever?
TheManaSource Alpha
If we can't get "worst cards ever" can we at least get "worst cards in this set"?
Fourth Edition
This series needs more love
Also, we need a Ravnica City of Guilds episode
Shout out for Slivers!

But Tradewind Rider! Capsize! ahhhhhhhh the good old days
I scrolled down to mention Tradewind Rider. He mentions the finisher Verdent Force but Tradewind and capsize put the game on lock.
I'm so happy you're continuing this series! I was too young to play Magic during many of the early sets, so I enjoy learning more about the history of the game. Keep up the good work, Wedge! :) Can you finish the Time Spiral block for the next installment?
I loved it!!! It is pretty cool to see someone talking about the good and old magic! :D
Please, more videos about the old expansions and old cards!
Man watching vids like these force me to look back into my old collection. So I dug out my Tempest collection and darn the luck I only have three wastelands. So close to having a full set.

Cool but where is that cat commander deck tech
this was the set that I started playing magic in. Ball ligtningx 2, double fireblast. Counterspell annoyances were also abound.
Very cool! Great vid
But...
Oh, you know
WORST CARDS EVER!
This is the SECOND best series on Wedge's channel!
I love hearing about past sets and standards long before I was playing! Great video ^^
thank you for making another one of these! this series is my favorite! :) been waiting for ever
I’m honestly surprised you didn’t mention Goblin Bombardment. It was originally printed in Tempest and has become one of the most iconic sac outlets in commander, up there with Ashnod’s Altar. It was even in the Prossh precon.

The sliver precon from Tempest was my first ever precon deck. I still have it in 20 year old sleeves :P
This is about when I started playing MtG. So much nostalgia!
Omg this is the stuff I've been waiting for, a very insightful retrospect looong forward to more
Know what we need more of? BEST CARDS EVER.
Know what we need more of? *WORST* CARDS EVER. (fify)
Tempest is my favourite set of all time! Thank you!
So nostalgic watching this video...other than Innistrad and Lorwyn...this is one of my favorite blocks in Magic...Hard to believe i was middle school when this was in standard...I'm 32 going on 33 now lol
So... this means a Worst Cards Ever is due next time, right?
I mean, you have to maintain the balance of the universe after all.
UHGGHHGGHGHGHGHGH
TheManaSource DO IT
Ah, this was the first set I ever played. Thanks for the memories!
Torch. Kaervek's torch. And yeah, that was my favorite win con against UW control back in the day.
Since a lot of players took pauses from playing at the time, I would love to hear about Kamigawa.
Can we get more of the colour pie explained? That's my favorite.
love this series! Though why not go in set order to create a fun little continuity playlist
The best land destruction card in the game? Wasteland? U forgot Strip Mine
Ettore Volterrani right... Destroy any vs non basic only
Yep.
its the better card due to the fact it produces mana just that alone is huge
Rickkee007 strip mine also produces mana
Strip Mine can tap for colorless as well.
nice series, would be nice to write prices in a small box below of cards you mention so it would be easier to follow
Tempest is where I started. I wonder if I still have that reflecting pool?
You know what'd be another great historic retrospective on MTG: Worst Cards Ever!
Wow, holy crap man, that was unexpected! Awesome video! 10/10 better than That Other Series.
it's cool but the legend of "Worst Cards Ever" series is too awesome to be surpassed by anything
Vardaris true
This video wasn't in my subscription feed. Only knew about it because you posted it on facebook.
Do this again. Every set between tempest and today. I wanna see them.
love ya wedge keep up the great work ! tempest is also my all time favorite set
I was 17 and I still hate slivers to this day
Tempest will forever go down as leaving everyone scratching their heads figuring out how the hell Humility and Opalescence work together.
$20 for a brand new card wasn't * that * unheard of back then. Jester's Cap, for example, was a $20 card the day Ice Age came out.
Coldsnap would be an interesting set to do next.
I love these videos man keep em coming!
Hey, Slivers are great. They're what made me start playing Magic.
Kaervek's 'Touch'? okay Wedge, please show us on the doll where the bad man touched you.
Yes!!! I miss this series!
Yay! Slivers! My favorite tribe! ... Join us Wedge... Join the hive...
Is it hard consistently making such balls to the walls FANTASTIC content?
Please let the next in this series be homelands.
Tempest was my shit back in the day.
Knight of Dawn was my favourite card because I thought it looked cool haha
Is it bad that I like videos with just wedge's voice
how does the "creature cards above it" rule work now? can you just position you're creature's to you're need or is it "as long as there are three other creatures in you're graveyard"?

He's back!
This series is great. Thx for bringing it back.
BRING BACK WORST CARDS EVER AND THEN YOUR VIEWERS WILL BE HAPPY. WHERE IS IT?
This set was bonkers-good. Way better for Limited than anything before it. They could re-release this set as-is and I’d be totally happy.
Slivers are life!!!
"stand alone set" and "first in a block" is a contradiction
I remember paying less than three bucks for a pack of Tempest in 97.
I want more of this.
The birthplace of slivers :D fells good
Slivers are Love. Slivers are Life.
Disliked, reported, unsubscribed.
WOTC should have taken these video series as reference for Masters 25
Hey Wedge, u gonna finish the colour pie philosophy too?
YES" Wedge's best series is back! =D
Also, how sad it is to talk of puny Ixalan after going through glorious Tempest TT
Oh Capsize. Is there anything else that embodies Blue trolling better?
Do more man. You haven't done one of these in forever.
I don't know but Wedge saying Wasteland the epitome of Tempest just feels wrong, its just a rework of Strip Mine after all. Just like Time Warp is a rework of Time Walk. Personally I think Capsize ("with buyback") is the most tempest thing ever.
Why the hate for slivers man I don't understand that at all I never played slivers before
>Wasteland
You forgot, there is one stronger called Strip Mine.
I'd have to say Lotus Petal is the best, though.
ummm.....where is "Worst Cards Ever..." it has been almost ONE YEAR! I really need a good belly laugh Wedge? Please.............PLEASE!!!!!!
Zendikar or innistrad next
Sam McGuire original or return?
Not a huge fan of the best card being a strictly worse strip mine, especially when unique and powerful cards like reanimate are kicking around, but my guess was petal which admittedly has the same problem when compared to papa lotus.
Wasteland is the most influential card from Tempest, but I wouldn't call it the most powerful. That would be Earthcraft.
Wasteland was under the radar that time because of stripmine.
Slivers are love. Slivers are life.
Do Homelands next.
Strip Mine is widely banned but it's THE best land destruction card in the game Wedge, not Wasteland.
lol I have a bunch of tempest cards, they come from my brothers old shadow deck.
speaking of "Something Cards Ever"...
;3
Jesus, will you people shut the hell up about 'Worst Cards Ever'? We get it, it's a great series. But does the same damn joke need to be made literally hundreds of times on every single video TMS puts out? It's getting really damn old.
Wedge, you keep doing what you do, man. One of the best channels on TH-cam, no matter what you put out.
Can some explain why wasteland is more money than stripmine?
Oh shit, this series exists?
Best cards ever?! Are you mocking us Wedge?? Are you mocking us?!
color philosophy series. Bring it back pls. Orzhov.
Do more of this
So, Tempest is pretty important, since it's the start of the Weatherlight crew assaulting Ye Olde Phyrexia, Vampire curse taking effect, and the Weatherlight crew, or what's left of them, hit that Planar Gate. do cards like ashen ghoul just count how many other cards there are in you're graveyard, or do you actually have to stack you're creatures to be able to cast him from you're graveyard?
tell me, i want them for my commander deck :D
Do Invasion I wanna know what's the best cards in Invasion are
This is the exact opposite of the video we want Wedge :
Deadguy Red, what magic was meant to be
Ah yeah. Tempest is such a cool set.
Slivers FTW!!!!!!!!!!!! Up vote so wedge will see this any time he checks this video! xD
Where are the color pie vids?
It's baaaaack!
How dare you sir! Slivers are beautiful creatures that are just misunderstood!
