Alliances please. best non-basic land card frames imo came around this era (grey marble with a subtle purple trim is just chef's kiss). also think some of those are very much EDH playables. a lot of my pet non-basic land cards growing up are from this set like Kjeldoran Outpost, Lake of the Dead and Thawing Glaciers
I stopped playing standard, but I remained subscribed to you, I'm really glad I did because I love when you make these videos. Your content is always top notch and you help shed light on the past, present, and future of magic the gathering, from standard to edh, to pre-release guides, you rock dev! Please keep making videos like this, they're really cool.
You’re the man dev. I’m teetering On giving up on magic but your videos and info and decktecks and just overall good vibes keep me brewing and coming back for more
This video is a great retrospective. I loved being brought back to the time and place of the set then talking about the legacy of it. For those of us who were in their mtg prime at a young age when this set came out, it's as iconic as any.
For anyone who liked the idea of Lure of Prey, there's a card called Dramatic Entrance that for 3GG, you just get to put a green creature from your hand into play (just like Lure of Prey) but there isn't a restriction on when you can cast it. It's just 3GG Instant You may put a green creature card from your hand into the battlefield
For the longest time Grinning Totem was my favorite card from the set. I was so happy when I opened one in a starter pack. And thank you for the shout out for Shauku Endbringer!
I love my Zirilan of the Claw deck haha I was waiting this whole video saying ziri better be in top 5 or I'm going thumbs down 😀 beginning spicegirls reference hit home with me laugh superhard hahaha great video bro!
i love mining the 90's sets for commander gold. it's so nostalgic and actually a really sweet way to tilt the table. when i returned to the game last year, i immediately purchased a grinning totem and rainbow lands so i could abuse it in my muldrotha edh :) i would ask for weatherlight next, since it has so many off the wall cards.
That was so awesome, Dev. Mirage is one of my favorite sets, not just because it was the set when I first started playing, but because it felt so aesthetically different from previous Magic sets. I always remember Zuberi, Golden Feather because not only did it awaken the Tribal Timmy in me as my first legendary card, but also because it taught me about the importance of curving out (turns out Griffin decks weren't so good because they were all 4 mana 2/2 fliers) - and in fact, it made me so happy to see SaffronOlive win Commander Clash with Zuberi =) I was actually going to complain loudly about not seeing Teferi's Realm on the list, but then I realized it was actually from Visions. Personally I would love to see these videos about Visions and Weatherlight, and just have my heart explode with nostalgia.
Tombstone stairwell gives EVERYONE zombies on EACH upkeep, meaning they have zombies to block with even if you get to attack first. But, it's AMAZING in aristocrats because it means you're getting death triggers equal to the number of creatures in your graveyard on every end step.
So funny, was just browsing through the mirage set this morning after getting the Arena Mirage basic land art with the event. Tombstone stairwell was one of my favorite cards back in the day.
I loved Mirage. I was so excited when it came out. I started playing with Ice Age but Mirage came out right after I finished my first summer job. I remember being so excited to not have to ask my dad for the money to buy magic cards.
Wait a minute... Other people (than myself) love Jungle Patrol?!?! That's so cool! A year or two ago I got Mark Pool to sign my copy of Jungle Patrol and he told me when I asked him to sign it "I forgot I did this card" or something of that nature 😂
I love phasing. I think the design space is actually very interesting, with a new kind of exile zone. Things don't fall off and etb don't trigger when phasing in. It's actually an easy mechanic to learn and very different from other mechanics. Unfortunately the most cards with flanking weren't that interesting. And look at Teferi's Protection - this card is sweeeet!
I've been playing tomb stone stairwell for years, I combine it with noxious ghoul or with Eldrazi monument, lol it works with so much, love it tons of fun ~
Dude, Dev, I was trying to pause the vid to read the text about Waiting in the "Wings" so I slowed down the video to 50% speed. And it sounds hilarious. You sound so drunk! Give it a shot sometime if you want a good laugh
Mirage was the first set I got into and then they introduced the stack soon after I figured out how to play LOL. Mirage had so much flavor and the art was PERFECT, the new Dominaria set didn't quite hit that sweet spot that Mirage created :P
Not necessarily in this video, but I Noticed an uptick across several months of random self-deprecating jokes(?), and I personally love that kind of thing. It’s a defense mechanism for myself, but I don’t know if it’s on brand for you. If your ending tag line is “Spread Love, and Be Kind” I don’t think then that self-deprecating humor is right for your content. Also I think you’re a swell dude, so please remember to love yourself. We do.
I just love the art from these old sets. Sure some of the cards are powerful or unique, but it's the sauce my man. It's the flavor son! Gotta get those gorgeous cards!
That’s cool I haven’t played mtg since that set. I had alpha, beta, Arabian all those sets. I think I sold them all for a dub sack! Girls and drugs were more appealing at 16. I do miss those times. Great video though, oh to be young again.
Hall of Gemstone also has a disgusting interaction with an artifact called Mana Web, it not only forces them to use only one color of mana but also forces them to either use all their land-based mana at the same time or not at all; not a hard lock but still pretty nice for a green stax deck.
You said phasing was garbage. But when it came out, phasing was incredible. They made it crappy with an errata. If you play a cards as written format phasing triggers etb effects. Also my pick from merage is phatom warrior. 1/1 human warrior with when this creature blocks or becomes blocked it and creature blocked or blocking it phase out. Basically, the world's best chump blocker.
I mean, you'll still need more than just plains with Celestial Dawn, since you've got to draw it from the 99 and a five colour deck is going to want to live until then. I find that Ravnica, Alara, and Tarkir tap lands are good for budget builds.
Manuel Sacha we were all new once! To answer your questions: all black-bordered (non-unset) ones, yes it does (you can use scryfall’s “search by format legality” to easily filter for that), and it’s a singleton format except for basic lands and cards that specifically say you can have as many of them as you want (think shadowborn apostles, mostly)
17:01 Look at the textbox on that card. "sorry I burned down your village. Here's some gold". that will never get old. Seriously, play reparations just for that y'all
To be fair, it's actually pretty cool that Maro wrote two episodes of Roseanne. It's also hilarious.
Anyway, Mirage good.
What set should we do next?
Homelands
Alliances please. best non-basic land card frames imo came around this era (grey marble with a subtle purple trim is just chef's kiss). also think some of those are very much EDH playables. a lot of my pet non-basic land cards growing up are from this set like Kjeldoran Outpost, Lake of the Dead and Thawing Glaciers
Keep it going with visions
Alliances, Ice Age, Visions. Hivis of The Scale is pretty fun, tap to steal a dragon, I had fun stealing people's Volcanic dragons:P
Mercadian Masques please!!!!!!!
I think you should do a lot more of these types of videos. Either way, I think you're awesome. Definitely my favorite channel. Keep up the great work!
Mirage has, hands-down, the best art of any set.
This is an excellent series idea! As an edh player and a sucker for old cards I hope there will be moreof these for classic sets!
I stopped playing standard, but I remained subscribed to you, I'm really glad I did because I love when you make these videos.

I really enjoyed flanking and phasing, I think they were really fun and different. And flanking was actually really powerful vs weenie/tokens
flanking cool
knights!
Then you should build a Telim'Tor commander deck!
You’re the man dev. I’m teetering On giving up on magic but your videos and info and decktecks and just overall good vibes keep me brewing and coming back for more
Some of my favorite basics in this set. Pumped to see them in arena
Love when you go back and visit older sets. Great change of pace
Those tunes at the end just make me so happy ^^ ... they are like a perfect summer day :)
Here I am Dev! Spreading love and being kind! Thanks for all you do brother. Keep it going

You may put a green creature card from your hand into the battlefield
There's also garruk
For the longest time Grinning Totem was my favorite card from the set. I was so happy when I opened one in a starter pack. And thank you for the shout out for Shauku Endbringer!
Sweet my man! I love your style! The fact not more people play early harvest breaks my heart!
Seeds of Innocence is pretty good too, artifact board wipe for only three mana. It's a really nice tool in mono-green creature decks.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane- especially that Circle of Despair. How I loved that card.
I love my Zirilan of the Claw deck haha I was waiting this whole video saying ziri better be in top 5 or I'm going thumbs down 😀 beginning spicegirls reference hit home with me laugh superhard hahaha great video bro!

Also how could not even mention THAT FLAVOR TEXT ON REPARATIONS
Great spotlight on edh and how Mirage still has an impact on todays format. Everyone should see this video.
This was great. Would be awesome to see more of these
I would love to see some of your commander decks. I think that would be a great vid. Thanks for commander love and I love all your stuff!
When I saw that first picture of sunweb I thought you were trolling us haha great video man
Hey man, i really liked your intro this time! Great humor, great over the top "screaming" into the mic. I really enjoyed it!
Awesome video for an awesome set. The art on cards from the Mirage block is just amazing
Tombstone stairwell gives EVERYONE zombies on EACH upkeep, meaning they have zombies to block with even if you get to attack first. But, it's AMAZING in aristocrats because it means you're getting death triggers equal to the number of creatures in your graveyard on every end step.
Awesome vid dev! I never got to play this set but I but I always wanted too and I've always loved the art and I feel like this is as close as I'll get
Early Harvest is my signature spell for my Nissa Who Shakes the World Oathbreaker deck. It’s stupid good.
dustin89clanton vitalize is good for that also
Couldn’t agree more on hall of gemstone. Love that card!
So funny, was just browsing through the mirage set this morning after getting the Arena Mirage basic land art with the event. Tombstone stairwell was one of my favorite cards back in the day.
Didn’t know about a few of these cards, super cool!!
Love mirage! Still have my tournament pack and keeping it fresh
I loved Mirage. I was so excited when it came out. I started playing with Ice Age but Mirage came out right after I finished my first summer job. I remember being so excited to not have to ask my dad for the money to buy magic cards.
Whoo hoo, Shaku the Endbringer is awesome! One of my first Commander decks.
Dev, seriously, Thank You.
I'm surprised there's actually that many great cards in the set for Commander.
This was when I stopped playing and then picked it back up at Dominaria big gap huh
wow dude turns out 1996 sums up my entire childhood
Thank you for this i have not played mirage cards for a long time, but i still like them.
My bois back with his awesome intros! Always fascinating and entertaining 💜
Wait a minute... Other people (than myself) love Jungle Patrol?!?!
That's so cool! A year or two ago I got Mark Pool to sign my copy of Jungle Patrol and he told me when I asked him to sign it "I forgot I did this card" or something of that nature 😂
Yes!!! This is the set that introduced me to magic. I still love these cards!
I loved the whole Mirage block …… I was 1 of those 'Cave People'. :)
oh you must love the planecation this week
I love phasing. I think the design space is actually very interesting, with a new kind of exile zone. Things don't fall off and etb don't trigger when phasing in. I actually love mirage as a set (even though I never played this set when it came out because I was just a baby back then) for commander pieces!
Dude, Dev, I was trying to pause the vid to read the text about Waiting in the "Wings" so I slowed down the video to 50% speed. And it sounds hilarious. You sound so drunk! Give it a shot sometime if you want a good laugh
More of these type of videos would be great 👍
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS VIDEO! GIVE ME MORE!
I missed „Grim Feast“ in this video, it‘s a dominating card in my Glissa, the Traitor deck anytime it comes down.
Today I saw a post, the song on your 16th birthday defines you, mine was Macarana...
Mirage was the first set I got into and then they introduced the stack soon after I figured out how to play LOL. Mirage had so much flavor and the art was PERFECT, the new Dominaria set didn't quite hit that sweet spot that Mirage created :P

But.. you didn't explain what phasing was when explaining Shimmer! I mean, I'm about to google it, but still! Lol
More videos like this please :)
So, Omnath, Locus of Mana and Hall of Gemstone suddenly sounds pretty sweet...
Hall of Gemstone also has a disgusting interaction with an artifact called Mana Web, it not only forces them to use only one color of mana but also forces them to either use all their land-based mana at the same time or not at all; not a hard lock but still pretty nice for a green stax deck.

To read the text at 5:10 i had to slow the video down to .25;which, inadvertently, was super funny!
i use unfulfilled desires in my sidisi deck to loop golgari brownscale. it's 1 mana, gain 1 life, mill 2, usually make a zombie
The set I learned to play with love it I had almost all those cards
Holy Guacamole!!! Soul reaver was so awesome!!!!
Love the commander vid. Keep being awesome
I had to pause this video like 18 times to read those ridiculous text boxes lol
Some of the absolute best art
Worldly Tudor!! My jam!
I have so many mirage cards just because I loved the art and set symbol haha. Harbinger of night going in animatou
Also big shoutout for unfulfilled desires. Training grounds makes it pay a life and loot.
...and now I feel old and dumb. No sleeves and not thinking one mana tutors were dumb
Agreed. Lots of great edh cards in mirage
I run both circle, and purgatory in my cleric edh deck.
Awesome video love it!!
ok i loved this video more look backs, i could watch a 30 min video of that intro
All I do I look through old sets for commander tech cards lol, I always find spicy stuff, Bereavement in grismold for one seems hella spicy haha

@@TheMaddestHatter234 White-bordered cards are also legal.
This is a great video. Thank you.
So if I'm playing Shimmer, I can name Islands, and play Celestial Dawn so I can ignore the Shimmer?
*PHYREXIAN PURGE*
Natural balance + Jodah = thanks for playing magic with me, should we sweep and start over now?
Visions should be next
Please do commander deck tecks! Also how about a video on stronghold. Alot of good stuff there
Awesome! Always Love edh content
Ah.... The year I was born! Good year😅
You're wrong about Phasing. Phasing is a great mechanic!
New awesome deck for you to try. Elfball with bainfire
Awesome content
I really enjoyed the jokes here dev, cool video, always love your stuff!
Just recently bought mirage fetches for my Breya deck cause I can't afford a manabase that includes both shocklands and onslaught/zendikar fetches lol
Did anyone else get distracted by the flavor text on Reparations?
Sorry I burned down your village...
Here's some gold.
Seriously man, Where do you find these shirts? I need help finding some!
obviously the most important question is which episodes of Roseanne?
After watching this, I'm thinking there's a build for a mono Green control deck. 🤔
I was born in '96 😆😆 I feel like a child
you are
you fucking zoomer
Harbinger with new Volrath.
17:01 Look at the textbox on that card. "sorry I burned down your village. Here's some gold". that will never get old. Seriously, play reparations just for that y'all
my first thought was "oh, that's what opaline sliver is referencing"
Calling out The Godfather. Stick it to the man!
Lovaazze the video keep it up
How would lure of prey equal an 8 drop on turn 2?
