As usual you represent the Epitome of customer care, going that extra distance to fix things that you weren't responsible for but saw the need for a corrective repair/solution. I am a self employed carpenter that sees this sort of thing daily, missing nails, ETC. I try and close things up the way they should have been left when I open them up! You deserve credit for this, and I thank you for demonstrating character in this video by doing so. An extra nut and washer and some new tape just speaks as to why I'm proud to watch your videos over most others. You are beyond reproach, Thank you!
The first best moment at 15:44, "well that didn't fix it..." The second best moment at 22:27, "I need something to wipe my fingers, we will use the instructions it (China window motor) came with because I do not have a rag..." Another great video! Agree with Brian Richards that your videos in the Auto Repair segment are the best on TH-cam. I did one of those in a Buick LeSabre. The regulator broke but the Buick motor would not fit into a Dorman regulator so we had to purchase the whole Dorman motor and regulator product. Not a quality assembly but it worked.
Good to see the circuit's ground itself was included while testing. Other videos, show the test light being hooked to a ground somewhere else that is not in the circuit, ..So warning to all, grounding a test light "externally from the circuit" is useless as you are not testing the entire circuit itself... in addition, the ground and positive side needs a voltage drop test to check if it can hold a load and run the motor. kudos to Eric O for showing us the right way again!
Thanks for the video Eric, helped me properly diagnose a bad window motor in my Taurus! I also appreciate your Windstar story, exact same regulator assembly in my Taurus and the service manual doesn't even properly warn about it... All it says is to ensure that the regulator arm is in "a fixed position".
And I'm watching this video before digging into my 1998 Lesabre with the same exact problem. Thanks again for posting this video. It is especially helpful when working on a car that is now 25 years old. :-)
The last window motor I did was on a Lexus with the anti pinch window. I installed it without" reprogramming" the motor 1st. Well, the car reminded me that I forgot. I was testing the window before putting everything back together. When the window went up, the anti pinch made it come back down a couple inches and my hand was in the wrong place, lol. It gave me a nice cut. Thanks for the video
Good video Eric, your story reminded me of my son giving me a hand some years back on a 87 Honda accord. Driver door window, he started tacking every nut and bolt loose, when he pulled the motor the spring came unwound hit he window and shattered it. Needless to say instead of making money I went in the hole on that one. those springs are not easy to rewind. Thanks for your time and effort. always enjoy your videos.
You and me maybe the only people who carefully remove vapor barriers. I recently carefully cleaned all the fossilized glue off my 98 accord's vapor barrier and replaced it with new butal tape, very satisfying. Got the "sticky" back. Ps: I saw that "caveman" as well.
Hey Eric, love your channel.I look forward to all your new videos.I'm a collision guy, that car has a used door on it.You can tell by the different color on the inside, also explains why some of the wires werent attached.
Every time I have an issue with a vehicle, there you are with an answer! '94 GMC Jimmy, same wiring, same switch, same location... different motor and it's riveted in! Joy
thank you so much for this!!!! I already have a spare motor from the person I bought it from, so being able to repair it myself saves me so much money!!☺️
Great video. Like the humor you throw in also. Was very helpful as I have a 98 I got from a buddy about a year ago with 47,000 original miles. It sat in a garage a lot as his father bought it new for his mother when they were in their seventies. The front passenger window has some issues going up and down. The pointers you gave will really help. Looking forward to more vids.
Great job explaining the diagnosis and with the video overall. I will follow the procedure as I do a rear door on my '92 Park Avenue (250,000 miles) tomorrow. Had the car since it was three years old, replaced the main switch a couple times but have not had to replace a window motor so far. (The original engine runs like it did when I got it in '95 with 30K miles and does not need oil added between changes. It was built before plastic intake manifolds and general cheapening with the later models.)
Hi Eric! Love your channel. Been following for just a little while and binge watch your vids, Haha. With this one, the only additional thing I would have done for this repair is test the motor before ordering one. I would have isolated the old motor outside of the door and tried to activate it. It could have been something in the mechanism of the sliding window, maybe being bound up or something, not the motor. Your method of troubleshooting in all of your videos is great! I love how you don't make more work for yourself by simply troubleshooting the easiest and most logical thing first. Great job, man.
Patrick Vest A lot of motors will work out side the vehicle with no load on them but will not work under load. The classic starter bench test is a good example of this. Just because it makes noise and spins doesn't mean it is good :)
Thank you so much! This video saved me. I had the exact same problem, except it was on 99 on my front driver's door. This video helped me diagnose the problem. I had to replace the motor as well. Thank you so much for your content man, keep it up! Greetings from The Czech Republic!
You don't have to apologise for your attitude, I think you showed great restraint getting the reflector out and re-assembling the trim. That would be the sort of thing which would send me over the edge and the reason I've had my cassette deck just sitting in pieces for the last three months. I've got to find a real zen moment to replace the belts and put it back together again. There's this one moment where you have to get the door through the chassis, hook up a spring and engage a gear (so it opens slowly when you press the button after) which requires three hands and one of those can't be bigger than that of a 12-year-old. Good thing I won't have any toddlers running around or be on camera as I suspect the air will be a distinct colour around here when I tackle that job.
Nice video Eric, those regulators are so painless to replace (unless you loose your skin) compared to the cable and plastic clip design. Great use of the instructions as workshop rag. As far as wiring diagrams go, here in the UK we are very limited, Autodata or Autovista and they both have a lot of holes in the coverage, when we are stuck we pay the daily subscription to the dealer site and print off what is needed.
Great Videos Eric, keep up the good work. You are a good mechanic. Not a hack that throws things together and doesn't give a crap. BTW stay real and don't become a sell out or marketing tool like another Channel on YT that has the same first name as you. His videos are now nothing more than giant commercials for products instead of actually showing good car repair.
thank you very much you saved a bunch of money. I pulled it apart went right to the motor . Remove the old motor tried to turn it on, did not work. Installed new one started on work beautiful. Awesome video
great video as always Eric I use rubber cement to put those water barriers back in holds good and still easy to get off when needed and the stuff is cheap and looks factory
Damn. I have a 1997 le sabre. My driver window stopped. I took the door panel apart and verified the motor wouldn't work. Took it off, called the buick dealer and they had one in stock for like 240 bucks! I was in a hurry so I drove to the dealer. He pulled out the part and it clearly wasn't the right one. The motor looked like a mirror image of what I needed. He checked and checked, I showed him what I pulled from the car, and he said, well, that is all he has. Damn. On a whim, on the drive home I pulled into Pep Boys and they had one for 69 bucks! It was perfect. The only difference is the GM part had more metal in the motor and coil housing, while the PeP boys version had more plastic. I have had it now for 6 years, so I be happy. I know from past experience how GM gouges people that buy parts from them, so just be forewarned
When you were testing the window switch, were you connected to both grounds to light up the test light? Or did you clip the test light to the power wire and probe the ground when operating the switch?
Man, you must hate Scotty Kilmer lol? That's alright, he does let brake calipers hang by the brake hose and do other stuff. I like your videos the most because you don't explain every single detail like EricTheCarGuy does, which saves time and skipping over the video. And I like how most are 45+ minutes so it keeps me occupied lol. Keep those videos coming! Great channel.
I reflexively clicked the "like" button when you trashed Obamacare. I would have clicked it eventually anyway, but that was funny as hell. You def run one of the greatest channels on TH-cam, keep up the great work.
Hi Eric I did some troubleshooting today on Toyota 1999 sienna on the passenger switch and yes I have a few questions before I called a Master switch problem and you answered all my questions with your video THANK YOU SO MUCH
I drive a 99 lesabre I drive it 2k a month. 3800v6 is such a kick ass motor. Well after 20 years you gotta swap a few window motors. NIce vid. Im glad I bought a southern car with now rust.
I want to start out by saying thanks for your video! Having the wiring is awesome, only note: @ 5:30ish sec; If you want to test the main switch you want to unplug the switch in questions. This will isolate the grounds, off the Hot wire you should get 12V off the 2 wires in the wiring diagram that are going to the main switch. If you leave everything plugged in it is possible to find ground to all the wires through the motor and still have a bad main switch. Love your videos just thought I would throw that out there, keep doing what you do!
hey eric you use Mitchell pro demand right? do you know if I can get a wiring diagram for a specific vehicle just one time with out you know getting a subscription cause its expensive 170a month I just need to use it once I figured id ask
Good job on the video. I have a 2001 Buick LeSabre. Only the driver's side window works so I replaced the Master controller and that didn't fix the problem. So now I'm going to just replace the three motors thanks again
I know a guy that almost had his finger removed by a ford with a spring like you referred to. The surgeons butterflied his finger open to reattach all the ligaments. Pretty scary stuff.
Back when parts were made well and would last 30 plus years don't see them switches with the large Copper Pins no more good video as always Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
I hated those kid safe windows. Never felt right when I was in the back seat. Had a 91 Ford Probe, the passenger window kept getting stuck. Turned out the motor/regulator was a fortune to replace so my mechanic just stuck a screw in there to keep it rolled up. Mostly I drove alone so it wasn't a huge deal. Then one day the driver's window ZOOMED down into the door and refused to come out and play. Lived with that for months until I tried to beat a monster storm home from a friend's house 13 miles away. There was a 1/4” of water in the back seat foot wells. The inside of the hatchback was wet. The storm stayed with me and stopped raining when I hit my driveway. I was as wet as if I'd fallen in the pool. After that I found the $300 or so to get that window fixed.
Thanks a lot man. It's pretty much the same on my '91 park avenue. Too bad whoever messed with my car before didn't watch this vid or they wouldn't have broken half the tabs and pieces trying to take the door panel off...
For diagnosis, have someone operate the switch on the driver's door, and then bang the rear door. If it starts working, it's likely the motor. Those switches don't like dust. Mine get full of saw dust and quit working from time to time, so I clean them out and then use dielectric grease. I know that's not the best diagostics, but if you don't have the electrical equipment and don't know how to use it, this tip might help you do it yourself and save some cash. Mine has sheetrock screws holding the panels on, as I recall.
i have a question for you....my families envoy power seat is having problems. the seat moves but its a stop and go motion with both sliding forward and backwards also for leaning back and leaning forward. Any ideas?
Do they run on a circuit breaker? Boy I'd have to look on a diagram. Do you have a diagram for that to look at? Look here if you don't . It may help you. www.bbbindustries.com/technical.html
Good thing, anyone who knows how electricity works, they have a good idea how to repair this problem via your video. But if your intention is to educate, you may need to elaborate on the wiring diagram a bit, or go in depth on how electricity works in another video. This video makes sense to me, but for the lay person, it may not. Just a future suggestion! Keep making awesome videos!
you are awesome Eric, and like i said about the plastic tb on the Ford u did the tb cleaning on, theres your problem its made out of plastic, lol, but did not know that now even Window regulators are made out of plastic, interesting.
Eric great video But I think the group may have enjoyed to see you hook up a amp clamp to your scope and give a look at the wave form. Just a thought have a good 4TH
I use some 3M Spraymount 77 for putting the moisture barriers back on door panels. Apply it to both surfaces like a contact cement, let it set up slightly tacky and put the barrier back on. Holds like a charm and it's removable if you need access in the future.
South Main Auto Repair Thanks Eric !!. I have the shop manuals for my cars, but wanted to have access to diagram when occasionally working on friends cars. Of course I can't afford Pro-Demand..
What is the model number of your little dewalt drill? Has it been a good drill? I have a DC970K 18v and it has proven to be junk in less than a year and I don't think im as rough on my tools as you are ha.
Nice diagnostics on the motor Eric and superb repair. Yeah, I hate to work on a Saturday too, and trust me when I say that I understand your frustration about Obamacare, and for that matter, anything that pertains to the government. Have a good weekend Eric and don't work too hard.
Staying on subject, Eric can you tell me how hard is it to reset a spring that gets unsprung while removing the motor. That is my case with the driverside window on my 2000 Camaro. My buddy said it spun out while removing the motor. .. and then left me to figure it out.
Hey Eric,i am sure that it is the spider injector I put a new spark plug in and still it runs bad,now the temp sensor is bad my temp gauge dosent work.
Hi Eric Thanks for sharing your Saturday with us. Working Saturdays suck. I know what you mean about thous Ford window springs. I have done the same myself too. Still got all my fingers tho. Rob
Eric, I like how careful you treat other peoples property. I hate it when mechanics slap parts together without cleaning them and leaving greasy fingerprints all over the place. As far as Obama, the press and the SCOTUS go, it used to be a great country, Independence Day doesn't have the excitement it once had.
on my 2001 Lesabre the driver side widows don't work, we changed the door module and switch and chased wires under the drivers carpet . Any ideas, we also checked fuses and all good.
The door panel not being re-installed properly following the last repair (You showed "Someone having been in there before") could have been the very issue that caused the motor to burn out. The lip could have been providing unnecessary friction which, over time, put too much strain on the motor
I have a 97 Buick LeSabre my passenger door window switch doesn’t work on that, but works from the master switch. Should I replace the switch or do something else.
another good video Eric, I wish here in Europe we could get good schematics like you can get. I had Autodata, but all it would cover is the pcm and abs modules if you were lucky.
South Main Auto Repair follow the cables , then try to figure out circuit design, then hope I don't get it wronganother way is to search the internet forums, someone might have a link to a workshop manual that might be similar to the one I am working onThere are a few new companies starting, I am trying for a free trial first before I buy
Hey brother! Any idea why my passenger frt. window goes down by itself when I start my car? I replaced the drivers master switch assy and still does it. It doesn't do it all the time and when I activate the lock button on the master switch, it doesn't do it....
Really like your channel. With that said why are you using that old skool test light? You must have some type of power probe style circuit tester. It would have made finding the problem much faster
Thanks for another great video. Its funny I was saying the whole time to myself hit the motor with a wrench and see what happens and you eventually did the same thing..lol
Can't be to many '97 Buick LeSabre (or anything '97) still on the road based on the rusty stuff you've shown in your videos. How has that car lasted so long??
It worked out fine for you and probably would 99 times out of 100 but i would have tested the old motor outside the door before ordering a new one. I mean, if it's bad it still has to go out and it doesn't matter if you get it out before or after ordering the replacement.
South Main Auto Repair Haha, yeah sorry 'bout that man. The wiring diagram seems to be of real good quality. I was trying to decide between Alldata and Mitchell1. I've heard Alldata is a little easier to look up/navigate, but Mitchell1 blows them out of the water on wiring diagrams. Any thoughts from the guy on the ground?
Mehhh they all have there strong points and weakness like any thing. I have had MOD for 18+ years so I am use to it. A lot of there info is mixed up but you just call or email and they hook you up pretty fast with the right stuff. Have you seen MotoLogic yet? Way cheaper and just as inaccurate? Maybe the best choice if you wanna save a few bucks.
I have a 97 Buick LeSabre limited .. the window on the passenger side was working fine but then the switch got stuck in the up position. What could be the problem ?
As usual you represent the Epitome of customer care, going that extra distance to fix things that you weren't responsible for but saw the need for a corrective repair/solution. I am a self employed carpenter that sees this sort of thing daily, missing nails, ETC. I try and close things up the way they should have been left when I open them up! What the first ting you do. when you door window just
The first best moment at 15:44, "well that didn't fix it..."
The second best moment at 22:27, "I need something to wipe my fingers, we will use the instructions it (China window motor) came with because I do not have a rag..."
Another great video!
Sandbag1300 Dorman is not a work you use with the word "quality" unless you are talking about a lack of haha
This guy's a clown
Attention to detail is your strong point Eric 👍🏻 Not many mechanics would do what you do!! love watching and listening to you Eric O 😄
Watching your videos is always time well spent. Thanks for taking the time to create these videos.

"Its Saturday so we can tell stories" 😂 You are a thorough mechanic. We need you here in Sioux Falls South Dakota
Like someone said long ago, " A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!" Good video! I enjoyed it!
Monte Hyler they sure did and that's what I keep doing
Thanks for the video Eric, helped me properly diagnose a bad window motor in my Taurus!

Nice work Eric O Always Quality work good entertainment @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
hello Eric kindly what's the wiring diagram program you are using
Where did you find the wiring diags.?
i have a question for you....my families envoy power seat is having problems. the seat moves but its a stop and go motion with both sliding forward and backwards also for leaning back and leaning forward. Any ideas?
kj like a steady surging?
It will like run a second stop run a second stop it does it both front and back and the same for leaning forward backwards. Is it like a bad relay?
Do they run on a circuit breaker? Boy I'd have to look on a diagram. Do you have a diagram for that to look at? Look here if you don't . It may help you. www.bbbindustries.com/technical.html
Let me check it out. Thank you
I found the exact diagram for it. I give you credit on reading it haha. You're right it shows a circuit breaker on it
Good thing, anyone who knows how electricity works, they have a good idea how to repair this problem via your video. But if your intention is to educate, you may need to elaborate on the wiring diagram a bit, or go in depth on how electricity works in another video.
This video makes sense to me, but for the lay person, it may not. Just a future suggestion!
Keep making awesome videos!
Will Ihrke Thanks for your input.
you are awesome Eric, and like i said about the plastic tb on the Ford u did the tb cleaning on, theres your problem its made out of plastic, lol, but did not know that now even Window regulators are made out of plastic, interesting.
Another fantastic informative video. Keep up the great work....even if it is on a Saturday!!
Fuddpucker2009 Thanks Fudd
What is the name of the tool you use to check if the window switch was good?
Thanks, a great diagnostic & repair video. My 1994 LeSabre only has 108,000 on it, but it seems everything is currently failing. Bob Lindemuth
+marlindy2 Age will get them after a bit
Eric great video But I think the group may have enjoyed to see you hook up a amp clamp to your scope and give a look at the wave form. Just a thought have a good 4TH
Joseph Tucci Nah, waste of time, simple test light, fix it, bring in the next one :)
South Main Auto Repair Just curious why you didn't use a power probe?
Nigelv Because I can test fast and more accurately with a test light and scope than a p.probe. Don't get me wrong I have them I just rarely use them.
Nigelv Just old and stuck in my ways I guess too...
I use some 3M Spraymount 77 for putting the moisture barriers back on door panels. Apply it to both surfaces like a contact cement, let it set up slightly tacky and put the barrier back on. Holds like a charm and it's removable if you need access in the future.
Nice video Eric and great attention to detail as susual.
You mentioned that you would share a link on where to find schematics, didn't you?
gianfrancoa try these guys... www.bbbindustries.com/technical.html I use www.prodemand.com at the shop
South Main Auto Repair Thanks Eric !!. I have the shop manuals for my cars, but wanted to have access to diagram when occasionally working on friends cars. Of course I can't afford Pro-Demand..
@@SouthMainAuto As of Jan 31, 2020, BBB INDUSTRIES no longer provides this service.
Well done. Those are generally good old cars.
Eric what that tool you use to pry clips with what it called and where can I buy one.
Robert Ortega tools very similar to these www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com/2-Piece-Upholstery-Tool-Set-P128270.aspx?gclid=CPSQpIvvwsYCFdCRHwodxakKcw
Thank you Eric for the tool tip keep the videos coming I really enjoy your channel.
surprised to see you NOT lubricate the window trafficking! Guess not used to see you not go the extra mile!
I would not have been able to resist writing something on that nice bright tape...
Have a good weekend Eric and don't work too hard.
stuzman52 Oh you know me :)
I love your story's! Please tell more! 😁
The glass shop our shop uses writes the date of repair on the masking tape for future reference.
Hi Eric
Thanks for sharing your Saturday with us.
As far as Obama, the press and the SCOTUS go, it used to be a great country, Independence Day doesn't have the excitement it once had.
davidgpo Man I hear ya on that one...... it's sad
Why window falls in about 3 inches? What is the issue? Is the regulator has to be replaced?
on my 2001 Lesabre the driver side widows don't work, we changed the door module and switch and chased wires under the drivers carpet . Any ideas, we also checked fuses and all good.
Great job and great attitude.
The door panel not being re-installed properly following the last repair (You showed "Someone having been in there before") could have been the very issue that caused the motor to burn out. The lip could have been providing unnecessary friction which, over time, put too much strain on the motor
'87 Chrysler New Yorker window motor was almost identical. If you here the relay click, don't waste time checking wiring, it's the motor.
Great video and nice job.
DC Rickerson Thanks
He did a great job made it look simple
I have a 97 Buick LeSabre my passenger door window switch doesn’t work on that, but works from the master switch. Should I replace the switch or do something else.
You're answer of why someone's been in there may be to install the new door! It appears green/teal in color on the inside. Car was in accident?
Thank you Sir! We'll done video! Helpful and fun to learn.
I have a 95 Lasabre drivers side has a jammed passenger button . Passenger side doesn't work at all. thanks for the video to make a potential fix.
another good video Eric,
I wish here in Europe we could get good schematics like you can get.
I had Autodata, but all it would cover is the pcm and abs modules if you were lucky.
Electronic Workshop Then what do you do? There is nothing available?
Never mind this video is super old. I think I watched your power probe video.
Thanks for another great video. Its funny I was saying the whole time to myself hit the motor with a wrench and see what happens and you eventually did the same thing..lol
Johnny M the old smack it and see if it works test for sure
Great video! What kind of tester are you using? It looks like a nice one. I'd like to buy one. Thanks
Thank you for uploading this!!!
Eric you're awesome! Keep up the good work.
Hey Eric, quick question for you man. Are you using Alldata or Mitchell1 on your pc?
John Kirkland Whoops! My bad, I posted that before the video had finished. Prodemand, got it. Have a good July 4th. Enjoy some time w/your family.
John Kirkland Lol jumping the gun on me now haha
South Main Auto Repair I haven't seen MotoLogic yet. Might have to check them out sometime. Thanks!
I have a 97 Buick LeSabre limited .. the window on the passenger side was working fine but then the switch got stuck in the up position. What could be the problem ?
Great fix not a bad job to do on a Saturday. I won't get started on Obamacare and the gun grabbing , I stop there ;) Have a great weekend.
***** Thank you sir
@South Main Auto Repair, I like your attitude, you remind me of me ; )
