Don't know if this makes any sense, but I think guys like Kucherov having good defensive stats make sense. He probably could be a really good defensive player, but he or his coaches just make him play a really offensive brand of hockey. He plays with high risk, sacrificing that defense for offense. Like Huberdeau was an all-offense forward with Florida, but with Calgary he played much more balanced but stopped producing points. The defensive skill or in this case attributes are there, they just play a reckless style. I think it could be fixed by something like a defense/offense preference stat that could be influenced by coaches? Like Huberdeau would have had 10/10 offensive playstyle with Florida, but with Calgary he has more like a 6/10.
Byram's pretty good defensively and has a lot of offensive talent at least in buffalo, he should be 85 or 86 IMO. Imma create a full custom roster that overhauls everything so hopefully its much better lmao
Instead of inflating players deffensive stats to increase their overall, EA should make it so that for a defenseman defensive overall stats weigh more for defenseman and offensive stats should weigh more for forwards
I believe Sorokin’s goals saved above expected (GSAX) was in the top 5 last year, whereas Vasilevskiy was near the bottom. Not sure why EA isn’t using advanced stats and other metrics to factor in when adjusting ratings
Cole Caufield wasn’t bad defensively, especially compared to last season. 88 overall after a 68 point season for someone his age is great. Also bedard isn’t an overrate at all, 62 in 68, on that bad of a team. 47 points for a 20 year old defencemen is insane too.
I think what ruined nhl games most were “LEGACY RATINGS” . Player overalls aren’t even given based on actual play and skill there based strictly off popularity and for that majority of player ratings are over inflated and unrealistic which makes the ratings they given inaccurate. Same with these “X Factors” they put them in the game to differentiate players when realistically they really could of just went back to the older rating system & also worked more into player types & play styles. Not only that but making player types actually matter for once there’s no way a player like Tyler myers for example is doing the Michigan or any type of skill based dekes so make it where he can’t same with enforcers and snipers do things to where only a certain type of player can do certain things n fix the speed of players because the speeds are unrealistic also this is y they need to hire tougie, vasy roster updates , or tac tix to do the rosters so ratings are actually realistic

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, but I agree that they need to find a way to reflect it in stats.

@memphissander3512 Age doesn't matter for a current rating, that's what potential is for. Compared to other players it's a clear overrate.
