This man and a couple dozen others paved the way for what we see today. Thank you to all of these pioneers.

Childhood heroes of mine. The ‘Plymouth’ decal on the side of Don’s Ford truck is kinda funny.

Great footage. I´m surprised to see Don Garlits in a front-motored car, because this event happened after his 1970 Lions accident, according to what Keith Jackson said. It seems that Big Daddy healed from that, well enough to continue the season, all the while designing the rear-engine car which debuted 6 months later at Pomona. I was under the impression that he took most of 1970 off to recuperate, but apparently he got back in the seat as soon as he was able.

8:03 The first "Funny Cars" were otherwise stock bodies with the rear axle moved up into the back seat area for weight transfer advantage. The tube chassis floppers came later. I don't know why I'm obsessed with this fact, but there you go...

Blows away all the modern day Drag racing, back then, those guys drove themselves to the track, now it’s just over the top money,
Modern Drag racing got boring, just like NASCAR did, when it got to be a multi-millionaires sport and eliminated all the working class good old boys!
So glad lots of guys are keeping Nostalgia Drag Racing alive.

I drive a FED, I don't see how his feet and lower legs were not injured in that accident.
