This album is definitely a top 5 metal albums of all time for me. The contrast of harsh and etherial sounds through the whole thing is incredible. This song in particular builds into an amazing long outburst of emotion, then lets you sit in it with the extended outro. Its such a great example of what I love the most about black metal, the ability to have such heightened emotion alongside a great atmosphere. Also I don't know if its been mentioned already, but the vocalist, Neige, is the same vocalist for Alcest. I love them both, but they definitely each have a pretty distict sound in the Blackgaze genre.
Totally agree on EVERYTHING! 😊 So happy that this and Talk Talk were voted in, since they REALLY incorporate jazzy Drumming with non-jazz music. This one has a bit of a jazzy feel overall in the beginning, but still not as "jazz" as the drumming. An exciting track overall, that would definitely fit for next week. I will say, that next week's suggestions are offering an excellent display of more REALLY exciting "black metal" (or "blackened music" in a wide sense)
Out of the half a dozen experimental black metal bands I've checked out, Lantlôs and Mamaleek are the two I really like. At least both projects started off as black metal, but I think it's safe to say neither could be solely categorized as such now. BTW, if anyone else is a fan of those groups and has any recommendations, I'd appreciated it.
I've actually checked out Lantlos recently, im on a Junius kick and it was suggested somewhere that the most recent Lantlos album while not the same musically kind of scratches the same itch and in a wider context i do agree with that, however Lantlos don't have a consistent sound, each album is quite different than others so while the newest stuff is way more accessible gazy rocky stuff, the older you go its way more black metal so don't discount the band on just one album alone and check others and you might find something to your liking p.s next weeks theme sounds great as many bands i've discovered and liked for the past decade have been in the larger sphere of black metal while not being pure black metal so curious to see the picks
This is probably my favorite Lantlôs track, it's such a wonderful journey they take the listener on! Great vid!
Same, it's one I come back to often
This is my favorite song by them. This entire album is flawless.
Their English albums, feature Neige on harsh vocals including this one, he is matchless!

Oh I love Lantlôs, they are so versatile and amazing! I considered special-selecting them, and might still do.
The first time I listened to this song I shed a tear.
An absolute fav
This song is so special to me, it truly makes me happy whenever someone else gets to experience it

"very gaze-y" yeah, this mini-subgenre of black metal is called "blackgaze"
lantlôs, alcest, deafheaven, life, violet cold, numenorean
Post-black metal*
this is actually a pleasant feel good song.
Dude. Ok, whoever has been feeding you these suggestions is my ear doppelgänger.
omg i love your reaction!!!

You surely know Alcest then, right? Ameseours is also kinda similar. I love this style too, but don't know too many similar bands.
That was great!

Please check out Dimmu Borgir - Hybrid Stigmata for next week's theme 🙏 🎉 great reaction as per usual
I liked the first section and the outro, can't judge what's in the middle 'cause I know almost anything about it
I'd say this one is a huge stretch for "jazz drumming" and more so because the listener wanted to just throw in their favorite song. Cool song though.
"JazzY" as in "rocky", "folky", "poppy" or "metally". How would you categorise the drumming style in the first part of the song?
