@@scottmiller6495 Exactly. What obsesses the Academy to honor mediocre films and acting that are forgotten in under a decade, when as soon as this film was released, it was understood to be a classic? Check the history, they do it over and over. Which is why a Golden Globe is now the most prestigious award in the industry.
I've got a tape of this movie, which is one of my favorites along with "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" and "Blazing Sadles". The movie takes up two VHS tapes, including a little time on the tape for intermission, and also includes interviews by the cast members. Thanks for this video, as always.
I, my brother Dennis and a friend viewed this movie almost as soon as it came out in upstate New York. We were laughing for well over 3 hours, close to 4 maybe. One of the best comedic movies I've ever enjoyed. There may never be its equal again. Profuse Thankou's to every performer, participant and producer!
This movie is a joy to watch for the cast alone. It's genuinely sad that these very distinctive, one-of-a-kind actors & actresses are all gone and will never, ever be replaced. There's no one out there today that comes close to their talents!
Thanks for putting this together; this movie is one of my favorites since it is not only funny but has a historic set of comedians that had never been assembled before or since!
The comedy in this movie is timeless. I was a kid when this came out and loved it my whole life. I am close to 70 now and have an 8 year old daughter (adopted 😇) and she has no interest in nearly any movie I like from my youth except this one. She loves this movie and asks frequently if I'll put it on for her.
I wish they had included Red Skelton, Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball, Art Carney, Bob Newhart, Dick Van Dyke, Imagene Coca and a few others, too. But still, they managed to corral a massive number of greats and "near" great comedians and charming character actors.
I’ve read where every who’s who comedian in Hollywood was calling Kramer wanting to be in the movie, even for free, but there was no where to put them as it was already written and well into production.
Red Skelton wanted too much money. And ever the cheapskate, so did Jack Benny; but for what they settled for, he only got a quick cameo with a one-word line. And Jackie Gleason would have been easy to write into the script. Were Bob Newhart and Dick Van Dyke even active around 1961-1962?
What a shame that the only thing they had the Three Stooges do was stand there dressed as firemen. Still, this is one of my favorite comedies. Thanks for this "In Memoriam" tribute.
A very well done video, but I did notice one error. At 19:57 Paul Birch did not play Trelane on Sta Trek's "The Squire of Gothos". That was William Campbell. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Campbell_(actor)
Must have misread the paragraph in Paul Birch's Wikipedia page where it says: In the late 1950s, Birch starred, along with William Campbell, (best known today for his role as TRELANE in the Star Trek Episode, "The Squire of Gothos") , in the syndicated Canadian series Cannonball (1958), a half-hour drama/adventure show about truck drivers
The very first time I ever saw this film was New Years eve about 1972. I was home alone after Mum and Dad went out to a New Years party. This movie came on and I absolutely could not stop laughing. God bless them all.
& RIP. God bless America, 🇺🇸 , ❤❤
There will never be a classic film like that again. The best of the best were in it. A phenomenal accomplishment.
“Stop kiddin around and go back there and make me an old fashioned, just like dear old dad,” something like that. ❤
"What can go wrong with an old-fashioned?"
I had this film on VHS, then on DVD and now on Blu Ray. I first saw it in cinema in 1968. My favorite comedy ever.
Great tribute to one of the best casts, ever, in one of the funniest film I've ever seen. I hope you do "Blazing Saddles" because that was also one of my favorites.
Looks like only Mel is still alive 🙏🏻
Thanks for the memory of all these actors and other folks who made this a classic movie.
My favorite movie of all time!!! An epic comedy which will never be matched.
Thank you, I was born in 1963 and I can remember watching this movie come on television year after year and I would watch it. I still watch it whenever I can. Thanks for the trivia too. We need more of these creative videos.
i was one year later and seem to recall growing up it was on once every year - the day after thanksgiving ?
I was born 1/23/63 and yes I know this movie inside & Out . Ethel M was supreme with that NY accent and vibe
Very well produced video. I love this film. It still makes me laugh wholeheartedly!
Thank for this moving tribute to these comedic masters.
3:00 Actor Phil Silvers also starred in Marilyn's last incomplete movie, "Something's Got to Give" and basically had the same comedic approach to his screen time.
THIS is my favorite comedy movie of ALL.
5:09 Dorothy Provine, also starred alongside Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Natalie Wood, and Peter Falk in "The Great Race" as a singing showgirl in the western town scenes.
This was the last movie screened for President John F. Kennedy and his family at the White House before he left Washington, D. C. for Texas in November 1963.
wow
Also Seven Days in May which JFK knew about, it was released in 1964 but would have won Best Picture of 1963 if it was released sooner, because that film and Mad World is much better than Tom Jones, hands down!!!!!
I agree, along with this movie, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein are two of my all time favorite movies.
Love A&C meet F 👻
Awesome . This was really great. I love this movie and still will
Watch it from time to time
Thanks for this. When I was kid they showed this movie endless times through the '70s and '80s. I own it on DVD now.
GOD bless all these People . May they rest in peace.. 🙏🙏🙏
One of the funniest movies ever made. I literally laugh out loud, each and every time I see it.
One of the greatest movies in my opinion in my lifetime. Saw it when first released and laughed all the way thru it.
I wasn't born until 2 years after this movie came out-one of my favorites!!!!
Thanks for the Memories
RIP 🌹 🙏
This movie is a joy to watch for the cast alone. It's genuinely sad that these very distinctive, one-of-a-kind actors & actresses are all gone and will never, ever be replaced. There's no one out there today that comes close to their talents!
Thanks for the memories.
Ethel Merman was funny as hell in this movie.. What a comedic talent.. Rest in Peace🙏
I think of my Grandmother when I watch this movie, this one and The Out of Towners were her favorite movies.
Thank you for sharing this excellent tribute and awesome trivia. God Bless You and stay safe 🙏 ❤️
Thank you kindly
Such a fun film. And getting so many great names in one movie must have taken great effort.
Thanks for putting this together; this movie is one of my favorites since it is not only funny but has a historic set of comedians that had never been assembled before or since!
Diversity of your documentaries have kept it very interesting and informative, thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was amazing Vince! Thanks for doing it.
Well done. Excellent research.
Great review,
Even small cameos, warms the heart to see them. Like seeing old friends.
It would have been great to see Groucho too.
Couldn't agree more!
I loved this movie and still do. Quality
I must have missed that scene.
I’ve read where every who’s who comedian in Hollywood was calling Kramer wanting to be in the movie, even for free, but there was no where to put them as it was already written and well into production.
Also the great one, Jackie Gleason!
Some stars were forbidden by their networks or studios from appearing in it .
Extraordinary respect and care - for this largely forgotten film and for the many who made it happen. THANK YOU.🎉🎉 👏 👏
I doubt anyone would ever refer to this as "largely forgotten"!
This is one of my guilty pleasure movies ❤.
Magnificent and dignified remembrance and thanks so much for sharing and the best of luck!
Brutally funny, one of my favorites....😅❤
What a shame that the only thing they had the Three Stooges do was stand there dressed as firemen. Still, this is one of my favorite comedies. Thanks for this "In Memoriam" tribute.
Considering how short the Stooges cameo was, it had the greatest reaction to theater audiences.
One of my favorite comedy flicks of alllllll time , awesome cast .
Mine too!
This was really well done. Good job! And it was a brilliant film to watch and laugh along with. I saw it in the 80s as a kid and I still love it today
A very well done video, but I did notice one error. At 19:57 Paul Birch did not play Trelane on Sta Trek's "The Squire of Gothos". That was William Campbell.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Campbell_(actor)
You're right. I misread the reference on Wikipedia. Thanks for the correction.
Must have misread the paragraph in Paul Birch's Wikipedia page where it says:
In the late 1950s, Birch starred, along with William Campbell, (best known today for his role as TRELANE in the Star Trek Episode, "The Squire of Gothos") , in the syndicated Canadian series Cannonball (1958), a half-hour drama/adventure show about truck drivers
The very first time I ever saw this film was New Years eve about 1972. I was home alone after Mum and Dad went out to a New Years party. This movie came on and I absolutely could not stop laughing. I loved every second of it. This film is the definition of classic. It brings back so many great memories of my growing up years. I have so much love for the "Old School, Classic" way this film was made. The huge picture window compositions. This was a different time. "What could possibly happen to an old fashion?"
Great movie and cast
Excellent presentation of a great movie.
It's one of my all time favorite films. I've probably seen it a dozen times, and it still makes me laugh. What an amazing cast. Ethel Merman as the mother in law from hell really chewed the scenery.
Shut up! Drive faster!
A great memoriam on a great movie's talented people.
Great film. A must see.
There were many difficult times in my family, but this movie holds a moment in time when none of us could catch our breath from laughing. I was 5 years old when it was released and have watched it many times since. It holds up!
I saw this in the theater when I was eight, it never gets old. Still one of the funniest movies ever. Everyone was great, but Ethel Merman stole the show.
Absolutely 😂
My absolute favourite film loved it, from start to finish😂
Buster Keaton was a master. I've played live music for two of his silent films...The General and One Week.
