    This collector works better than the other methods I've tried. Thanks for sharing and I agree that the cyclone's work well.

    I did pretty much the same design but made from mdf, cut on the badsaw and laminated together. I tapped into the semicircular aluminum frame for a more secure attachment, allowing me to also move the fence as I want. Also added a port on each side with a plug so that I can make miters without removing the dust shroud. Also, taping up the gaps beneath the throat plate, and adding a zero clearance throat plate helps SO much. If I were to do it again, I'd definitely go the bucket route!

      Sounds nice. I’m redesigning this one to be able to collect dust just as well whether doing push cuts or pull cuts

      @@Holdmylager yeah, your bucket solution is brilliant. The making it out of MDF was fun, but also a nightmare because it gets brittle when it's that thin and I ended up cracking it when tightening down the screws. I had three five gallon buckets sitting next to me while I was making it too 🤣

    I like it. Simple and relatively effective.
    Some other TH-cam videos have suggested scoring the surface as the blade is pulled across the workpiece, then complete the cut on the push stroke. The dust from the main cut gets funneled back along the scored kerf. This technique seems to minimize the safety issue and really improves dust collection. Of course, a miter saw still throws out a lot of dust, but this helps. Seems like a reasonable compromise.

    I like this, and I'm going to give it a shot. I would like to see how you made the table for the front of your miter saw.

    Nice! I have the same miter saw and really like it especially since i paid 21 dollars for mine. Dust collection literally sucks though. I built a hood that helps capture a lot of the dust but this will be my next modification! Thanks for the video!

      I’m glad it was helpful. I’ve used this same collection system on a couple of miter saws than I like that it catches almost all the dust without obstructing the range of miter too much

    i have been struggling on how i want to add dust collection to my miter saw ( I have the same model as you). Anyway you can take a picture or a video of what the entire miter saw looks like? the front also? Thank you!

    Pretty cool idea… would have loved to see another angle of the this… it’s not clear what you have going from the front of your miter saw

      Thanks for the feedback. I will see about getting other angles.

    Interesting idea but I've always felt dangerous to pull cut on a chop saw, unless you clamp the material and the clamp to a table that is heavy or secured to floor. Cause most miter saw are not balance to be pulled you may pull your saw over, pulling threw wood. Heavy caution should be advised in this action with a miter saw.

      I completely agree that this is not a safety suggestion video. I am willing to take the risk using this Saul in the fashion that I do but I do not recommend anyone else use my video as a recommendation on improper use of a tool. I hope that my video will help people come up with their own ideas for dust collection and I would appreciate anyone else’s suggestions or recommendations for a low profile dust collection system. I am working with quite limited space currently and I like that the pool method also reduces the amount of splinters that fly off of your work piece when you cut through it.
      Thank you for your comment and I hope it is helpful to other people reading as well.

      Yes, but it's essentially a radial arm saw if you cut towards you, which also can catch if you go too quick...user just needs to know how it all works, as with all things!
      Great idea, thx 👍

    That pull cut all together seems to create less dust.

    • @Holdmylager
      @Holdmylager  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But it’s definitely not recommended to pull cut because they can grab your board and launch the saw towards you. I do so at my own peril but I wouldn’t suggest anyone else do it.

    That's neither a chop saw nor a radial arm saw.
    You got it right in the title though! ;)
    And why would you manually raise the blade guard. Might as well just remove it because it's doing you no good using it like that.

    • @richardrodgers1883
      @richardrodgers1883 ปีที่แล้ว

      The manual raising of the guard is because he was doing a pull cut and the guard will only raise on its own if you are doing a push cut as is the recommended method for using a miter saw. He did say the pull cut was not recommended and could be dangerous to do.

      He just used the saw after he installed the bucket bottom. He ran the saw through and created it with the first cut...?
