I think the best advice is to hold off until you get to know the game better. But I think the Banker and Merchant were the most useful luxuries I have bought. (I just thought to say that there is a free Bank in towns and Merchants randomly everywhere so that's why having the personal ones is a luxury. But new players might not realise that you can place the personal assistants in all your houses). Also you get a free horse at level 10. Don't buy a horse unless you like it for its looks

You make a really good point, when commenting on the War Boar and the Packrat! Always be sure to know which things are account-wide, and which are character-specific. Generally, character-specific stuff is kind of a rip-off. As well, regarding inventory, I'd suggest using gold for this; absolutely. Your bank-space is account-wide, and can be upgraded for normal in-game gold. You can also upgrade each character's inventory space with gold too. It give you something to work towards, early on. Which is a good thing, because there really isn't much use for a lot of your gold, until you reach Level 50 / CP 160. The Banker & Merchant companions are sooo worth it though! They are pricey... But you will not regret buying those!

Also, *[WARNING]:* Thief Personality might look super awesome in the preview window, but unfortunately most of the anims are bugged to be incompatible with *ANY* effect that alters your characters various movement speeds (including Sets, Champion Points, Skills, literally any-&-all). Basically, you'll equip the personality, and only about 1/4 of the animations that it claims will change, actually will take effect. Which really blows...cause according to the preview, it's basically "Anime Ninja" mode.

Starter pack, it's 500 crowns for an adorable panther cub. You shut your face--that's value for money right there! But yeah, the 1000 crown starter package does have more "value"...
The respec/experience/supply packages is spot on, though--they're super cheap in game, if not free. This would be the only thing I'd say absolutely don't spend your real money on.
They should definitely add "loadouts" and tie them to outfit slots. That would genuinely make those slots worthwhile. ie Go to an outfit station and you can swap from a pve spec to a pvp spec, etc.
As to motifs, you CAN get them all in game, but you should balance in-game prices and time vs the crowns. You can "buy crowns" from players for ~80g/per, so a 14 motif set comes down to the equivalent of about $28500/motif page. If it's a rare motif that's going for upwards of 100k/page, that 5000 crown price becomes more reasonable. For example, you can get Pyre Watch from Unhallowed Grave. But, you have to run that dungeon at LEAST 14 times and be extremely lucky. I think the main take-away is that it's important to know what you can and can't get in game from farming/traders, but you can compare the rarity of those drops (both for your time farming and your gold for costs in traders) vs if you're willing/able to drop actual cash for them. I admit, I bought a couple of the motifs when they went on sale. They were ones I definitely saw myself using and/or were ones that would be particularly difficult for me to farm. I restrained myself from buy all of the ones I didn't have, though, simply because I couldn't justify the crowns over farming methods "just to have them now".
I agree with the assistants. SOMEONE needs (sort of) to have them, but it doesn't need to be you. However, I also bought the banker first because it can cover whatever you need. Want to save something, pop it in the bank. Just need space, you can still drop trash in the bank and then sell it later. So, the banker can free up any inventory space in the field, the vendor can only free up trash.
"Skyshards are ok to buy." But, they're an easier, cheaper, and more guaranteed grind than motifs--which you said were a waste (granted, shards are a lot cheaper in small batches). Although, I've bought my non-faction Cyrodiil shards for a couple characters because those last 2 inside an enemy primary area can be a major pain to get.

I picked that up to adjust my characters appearance slightly and change its name.. I didn't even change the faction. It's just the most cost-effective way to kinda 'get it all'.

To add on to the merchant/bankers you can summon them from anywhere. The merchant can let you sell stuff, you can't buy or repair. The banker works like any other. They can be placed in your home as well and still be summoned anywhere.
I only know these things because I play with friends I made in the Brah We Got This discord (The Brahfia). I don't own any of the merchants or bankers.

When you buy Motifs in the crown store, be aware that some do not actually count towards the various crafting achievements in the game; which get you some of the best dyes, titles (meh), and a ridiculously awesome 1h Blunt Motif (it's basically ES' 1h version of Mjolnir). Whereas, if you acquire a Motif in-game, you can always be sure you're getting credit towards the crafting achievements. And, on that point, progress on crafting achievements is almost always character-specific; fyi. So, pick one character to be your crafter, and use all Recipes, Patterns, and Motifs, on that character only. The Outfit-use aspect of Motifs is account-wide though...

Make sure you dont buy any except for the ones you get from ESO plus...IF YOU DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO.
There is no reason at to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars on crowns at all. Also, if you're on PC, ESO plus is only absolutely necessary for housing because of the double space... I do writs on 18 toons and use Personal Assistant to manage all my inventory space automatically without ESO plus and never have an issue... takes proper configuration though but all the options are there.
Another thing, a base copy of ESO is like 11 bucks (no expansions). Even when I used to pay for ESO plus I had this second account to store all sorts of stuff ...just mail stuff off and deal with it later (very helpful for events too like the Anniversary event where you get Motifs coming out the yinyang).

I agree the crates are definitely not worth it. I only once got the 15-pack and got most of the items I wanted, so I was lucky, I guess. Assistants are amazing if you're like me and gather absolutely everything on your way and you don't want to break your journey by constantly going back to the vendors. I got them on sale (ongoing at this moment). Storage is also amazing if you're a veteran, as Adam said, or you know you will be playing for a long time. Other than that, everything else, for me, seems unnecessary. And cosmetics are a personal preference. I only got the hairstyle bundle as it was a good deal, maybe the best one in the store.

ESO (TESO) is a great game, i've come back after years, where I played the game when it got out (beta also).
I think it's got a great world. The world is big, there's a lot of quest everywhere... and so on.. (well, I hate the ui).
But I don't get the store. I find it way too expensif. Some Houses go for +80$. It's insane. Most stuff in the store is overpriced. I think it's a bad move from the editor of this game.
More people would use the store if they lowered the price.
