    One big addition!
    It is not allowed to take any Luggage with you to the Oktoberfest. (very smal bags may be allowed but you wouldn't ned them) This new restriction is based on the actual terror situation.
    There are entrence controls all around the Theresienwiese.
    Greetings from Munich.

      I assume you're German, but I have to correct your English for clarity of other readers: he means "current", or recently changed not "actual" meaning real. After various attacks across Europe in 2015 and 2016 they put up a fence around the huge festival grounds and bag checks. Only small purse-sized stuff gets in now.
      Edit: Germans have a word, "aktualisieren" which means to update or make current, which is where the term "aktuell" comes from. A common false friend for English-German speakers.

    In addition to #5: Eat something before and while you're in the tent. If you down your first Maß in 20 minutes or so you won't be feeling hungry anymore, but if you don't eat, you won't make your 3rd or 4th Maß. Believe me :) - the beer starts at at least 5.6% alcohol (which is Augustiner Edelstoff) and goes up to 6.3 (Hofbräu, HB).

  • @thrillynewt
    @thrillynewt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Also, don't try and down your Maß in one go, you'll get kicked out of the tent
    and if you want to pass out, don't pass out on the little Hill aka "Kotzhügel"

    I remember having a wait for a connecting flight at Frankfurt airport from Manchester UK to Newark. I had a couple of hours to kill so I went to one of the airport bars with the tall stools. I have three Mass of strong wheat beer in the space of about 45 mins. Which in UK terms is like having 7 pints of regular beer in 45 mins. Which is ridiculous. The wheat beer was Tucher and went down like honey. I did not feel drunk, however, when it came time to leave to go to the waiting lounge. I practically rolled off my high stool chair and fell on the floor. I staggered to the Lufthansa lounge and got right on the black coffee and breath mints. When it was time to board, I was seriously sweating it that they might not let me on the flight as I was still buzzing a bit from the beer.

    Very often you get served beer covered with excessive foam. By German law each glass or mass has a white mark near the top of the glass and the beer glass has to be filled up to this mark.If there is foam below that mark you did not get enough beer and you have been cheated. Prost enjoy and know your limits Christof in Toronto

    ok,serious questions here: i might have a potential trip coming up this year with my school and want to know,how does one pay for the mass beer and food? do you pay when they bring it over or do you pay at a cashier and servers will bring it over later? is there a menu on a plac card they hand out or what not? How many percent is the beer usually? and is would i be out of place and unwelcomed as an asian looking tourist,for example wearing, jeans,boots,and a sweater/leaather jacket? lastly,as with sitting,must it always be booked or is it free-for-all? apologies for asking so many questions,i just wanted to be doubly sure as i have never even been to europe,let alone germany.

    • @85set05
      @85set05 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      -You will be welcome as an Asian looking tourist we are very used to that.
      -If you want a seat without a reservation come in the morning
      -You pay the lady that brings you the food and beer (I think right when you order but it's been a while since I went so I'm not sure)
      -the beer should be between 5.5 and 6.5 percent alcohol
      -the tables have menus
      -if someone stands on a bench attempting to drink his whole liter of beer at once it is the custome for everyone to boo that person.

    Note: price for a Maß this year is what, €10.60? I think it was 10.40 last year. It's regulated.

    Having spent 8 years in Germany! When it comes to October fest SKIP IT!! what they don't tell you is that all summer long most German towns have beer fests!! The smaller ones are much more fun!! Since it's just mainly the people in that particular town!! You can get loaded and actually talk and even dance without a million people crushing you!! They also have good food and generally small carnivals!!

      Sadly the stations and trains are often unpleasant not only in the late evening. It makes your day when you are going to work and get the sour smell of "Wiesn" even before breakfast. The mvg (Munich's Transportation Service) often can't keep up with the cleaning. So you might see soiled trains and stations in the morning. These cars are easy to spot. If the car is packed on one half and the other half is empty, do yourself a favor and get into another one. Oh, and I'd rather say "eine Maß, bitte". Enjoy your stay.

    I am so dissapointed of that kind of mass entertainment. It is so overrated.

      Pungent Pie visiting the Autostadt seems worth it. Also try to see the "Pheno".

      There are a few things:
      - Autostadt combined with a tour to Volkswagen Factory which is the biggest in the world btw
      - Badeland: don't miss the excellent Spa and Sauna area!
      - Phaeno
      - visit Football/Icehockey game
      - Kunstmuseum
      - Castle
      - shopping at the designer outlets
      If youre there in Summer check out the Allerpark Area. You can do a lot of things like wakeboarding, Climbing or just hang out at the beach.
