  • I use to be a competitive weightlifter, but once I left college I really let myself go and i'm finally trying to get my confidence and health back to where it's suppose to be. The best way for me, is going to be the keto diet.

    Okay I feel super vulnerable posting this video, but I'm really excited to put this out into the world. I use to be in such good shape, I dont know how this happened, but what I do know is I want it back more than anything. So me and Manoa are going to be doing keto and working out and maybe you can join, follow along, etc. This is going to be a long road but every journey starts somewhere.       Keto is very unhealthy long term. If you cut out all carbs, then when you have any, they will stick like crazy because your body doesn't know when it's going to get carbs again. It tends to be a lot of meat too, which is hard on your heart and bad for the environment. Be careful. Most people gain weight because it's not sustainable long term.

      P Cmo meat isn’t bad for your heart, or for the environment. Also keto does not make you store fat like crazy when you eat carbs, but it will make you crave carbs less, and will spike your blood sugar more than normal when you do have them because you’ve become less insulin sensitive. It does, however, help with burning fat. Also, a proper keto diet is high in fibrous vegetables and is a massive positive step compared to the standard American diet. Also it’s clearly sustainable when there have been people doing it for over a decade straight with amazing health markers and bloodwork. All of this is factual as well

    I’m about the same height and build as you and weigh 225. In high school, about 10 years ago. I was 135 and in great shape. Good luck on your journey and always keep pushing!

    Proud of you fam. Any step in the right direction is a positive thing. Only recommendation as someone who has done keto before would be to make sure you’re getting enough vegetables and enough fat. It’s not as much about the protein as it is making sure you have high enough fat Intake.

      Beautiful? That’s subjective. But healthy; no. He was healthier before, and should try get back. There is nothing good about normalising obesity... We need to move away from this “I am perfect the way I am, how dare you suggest otherwise” attitude, and *get back to* praising people for self improvement.

    Bro, totally vibe with this. I too am a former in shape freak in my younger years. I've been focusing on getting more fit over the last 2 years and during that time have lost over 25lbs and still have a ways to go. Happy to say that my strength has improved as I can deadlift 85lb more than my bodyweight at present but it took a year of discipline to even be able to squat properly.
    Best piece of advice I can give is to remember to not obsess so much over numbers but more on how you want to look and feel and aim for that. And I'm sure you already know this, but there are changes you'll feel before people will say anything at all.
    Also don't beat yourself up over cheating occasionally. Just reel it back in and come back to this video to remind yourself why you started.

      thank you for all the advice!! I have actually had a lot of people tell me about cheating every now and then is okay. And I totally believe them - but im the type of person who will go down that slippery slope fast. Im going to try not to do any cheat meals bc I'll push it too far.

    I relate, I’m the biggest I’ve ever been. I was HS I was an athlete with an okay body lol and I miss it. Would love some updates! Need the motivation. Also I relate with despite the weight gain having a good face lol basically you cute af lol

    Keto is so restrictive and unsustainable - rather try a plant based diet

      High carb plant based is great! Doesn't mean you have to be vegan but eating like a Mediterranean or Japanese diet where meat is a very small amount

    When y’all picked out the pepper...don’t be discouraged. I’m not even on any diet and I probably eat about 3 whole peppers a day. I’m not even kidding my friends think I am crazy. But if you eat a pepper raw as a snack...it starts tasting really good. Probably about the healthiest thing I eat all day.

    As long as your in a calorie deficit you'll lose weight no.matter what u eat, I run 10 miles everyday I eat 2 whole.clif bars and a banana before and the rest of the day I eat about 1600 calories I lost tons eating the same foods not cutting out

      we thought about it, but it was all used food that we have touched and it would expire shortly bc it had all been opened or kept in the refrigerator. So we decided to throw it away.

    As someone who knows A LOT about nutrition.. the keto diet isn't healthy. There's a lot of nutrition channels on TH-cam, even a dietitian has a channel. I'm sure you can find a diet that will work for you thats actually healthy

      @@tylercotter9282 Ketosis starts when you wring sugar (glycogen) out of your liver. You also have it in your muscles. This glycogen is attached to water in your body, so when you first start your keto diet (or fasting,) much of your weight loss is glycogen and water.
