That was just way out of line. No eating in the lobby of a restaurant is the only thing I could think of that would probably be a little more ridicules than a noise ordinance in NAMM.

It’s more or so for business deals and what have you going on, the whole point of Namm is to show case companies new products but also for artists to connect with the companies and speak to each other, lol those fines to what I hear, really do happen lol, but it’s still ridiculous nonetheless.
I haven't been to namm yet, but I hear it's awesome. I want to go at least once before I check out. How loud is too loud?? When I go to a music store and sit down to a drum set and start playing. Am I bothering other customers? Am I pissing off the sales people? Do I plan on buying what I'm playing? Or am I just browsing?
A few things I've realized over time is this. When I play at a chain store, they have entry level to mid level stuff set up to play. And you don't have the usual signs posted on the drums saying please don't play drums. But they will hand you some hot rods or plastic rods. This is because heads, sticks although not crazy expensive, do add up when you have a lot of people coming in and out of the store just to jam, hang out, and browse. Now multiply that times a few hundred stores nationwide, or world wide.

Pocket, they have something called the " Travel Drum" I believe Tama is the company. Look it up when you get a chance.

Small drums....
I bought an old and _very_ well used Samick junior kit second hand, some years ago.
Some new heads and they actually sounded somewhat decent. That tiny 16" bd sounded fullsize when mic'ed.
The hardware is crap of course, barely enough to keep the stuff together in the home, definitely not something to do any professional stuff with... but I think the _idea_ of using a junior kit is sound. I could carry the whole kit in one go, with some planning!
Nowadays there are probably junior kits around with better hardware... so it should be possible.
(I'm a poor _and_ cheap bastard, so I only use decades old stuff... I have no idea what's available today.)
