Escape the Ordinary: 24hrs Fastpacking Adventure on the Six Dales Trail

With a weekend off myself and Craig decided to Fastpack the Six Dales Trail, a 66km long distance trail through the Nidderdale AONB from Middleham in the North to Otely in the South, with an overnight Bivi just outside Pateley Bridge. It was one of the hottest days of the year do far, and the afternoon heat didn’t make for the most pleasant running, however the early morning running the following day was sublime. It was the summer solstice and there were only a handful of hours of darkness but a very drawn out twilight and sunrise period. This was my first experience bivving on a fastpacking adventure but it definitely won’t be my last

Great video, I live in Otley and have done this route twice and often are out on this trail so it’s get to see it getting more publicity! There is a trail/ultra on this trail next month if anybody is interested in the Otley/Pateley section.

It's a lovely route, does the pp race do the whole route, I'd thought it only went from otley to the reservoirs and back again

@@DM_RUNNING Yes the 50 is an out and back from Otley to Gouthwite I think.
I’ll be doing the 20 which is an out and back to Blubberhouses and back.

Fantastic trip out for you. Be different in the pouring rain but tough in its own way. Were your packs ok or will you be travelling lighter next time?

Absolutely stunning in that weather but came with its own challenges! Not sure how motivated I would have been to do it in the pouring rain. Pack was fine, just takes a bit of getting used to, actually planning to take a tent next time but expect that to only add a couple of hundred grams extra.

thanks, think thats probably one of the best i've done yet. Its a great route and so quiet, saw bugger all people all day. Very lucky with the otters, think thats the first time i've seen them like that. Will have to go back at some point and do it in a day.

@@DM_RUNNING Can't believe , i was telling my daughter about this video and she says she has started this route from Otley and done about half of it and has it penciled in to complete, she walks a lot with her dog and does a lot of Wainwrights.

Hope she's gets it finished, think the stretch from Pately to Middleham is the best bit 👍
