traveling to a junior college somewhere (the middle of nowhere) in America to play sports was a lot easier 15 years ago than today. Some states like Florida don't have a rich history of established JuCo programs. Today, All they have are fly-by-night independent teams. Talented guys like Cam Newton were forced to go to Texas. If there were an option to play JuCo football in Florida 15 years ago, most guys will choose to stay in Florida. Till this day, it doesn't make sense to me. Who in their right mind wants to drive for over a thousand miles to play football? Catching the Greyhound bus or ALL ABOARD Amtrak was your best option. It's a big risk. If nobody is endorsing you to go there, it's going to cost you a LOT to relocate. Most college-age young men don't have the funding to travel. However, Greyhound used to have a bus pass program called the Discovery pass. The program discontinued in 2012. We were riding on the old white buses not the Navy blue ones. Before 2011, I remember The NCAA had the 21-years-old delay enrollment bylaw for outside competition. A lot of college coaches were using that loophole to recruit (more experienced) older players. Coach JB said you only have $1 to your name, big dreams to go D1, and a duffel bag. No N.I.L money allowed. That's true. Don't forget this, unless you're an NCAA qualifier fresh out of high school or Prep School (post-grad football), you only have two years at the JuCo level to make your dreams a reality. You feel all odds are literally stacked against you as soon as you get off the bus or Amtrak train. Amtrak still has the USA-Rail pass program by the way. The price inflated after the COVID-19.
I played for Laney College during the Last chance U Szn and I can agree that JUCO made me. I realize football is bigger than life and I wasn’t ready to give up my life for it.
I’m currently in juco and I will say the politics man all of us players came for a opportunity to put or people around us in a better situation or to continue our individual goals, but it’s eat or starve you can be a dawg and fight or you can lay down and quit you decide your future real talk coach can replace you with a 5 star the next day so 🤷🏾♂️ and I’m at East Mississippi community college
@@gregorydavis8699 most juco’s don’t really have money to feed you so a sport like football you need a lot of food to maintain weight. Everyone at a juco has made the decision to be there so you know everyone is hungry to compete. Because of college rules a lot of guys don’t wanna waste there edibility to play, on a juco when they could be at a D1 program instead trying to to compete for a spot. So this cause juco to be intense because everyone wants to be 1 and done. The NFL don’t like older players. Then there’s politics because you might be the best at your position but because the coach made a promise or something behind the scenes it could kill your chances
@@lookdoug1516 bruh Cam got last our Squad but we won it after he left. Us and Blinn went at it for years. We had the boyz from all over Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.. Ju Co was where it at! Talent Fr
I just said that in my last post 💯🎯 about Matt not understanding a head coach eyes ❤one time for the juco it makes you or brakes you I love my Iowa State but juco make me a man shoutout to CN1
Juco ain’t no joke D1s wanted me to do 2 years of juco obviously so they can give you a 2 year partial with grants, I said F that and only did 1 year. Some, not all jucos are trash programs with players who aren’t dedicated like they should be. Some players are super dedicated just had bad grades. Juco def not for the weak. Man we had to schedule our own voluntary workouts in the public weight room , with no coach even there to hold you accountable 😭 I had to get out!! lol Best players I played in juco was cordale Patterson and another wr that went Cincinnati and played for raiders
I was at blinn with cam . That team had 3 players that I actually know of who went to the NFL, all plaid skill positions. RB that went to the saints, and Wr who went to the bucs . I legit think we could of beat a few D1 schools .. I know blinn wasn't Florida but trust me, cam coulda had it worse at another juco school .. Blinn was the closest thing to a D1 school that you'll see in juco ..from fans to dorm rooms ..if you had never been to D1 or juco and went to another juco after leaving blinn. You'll feel the same way as leaving D1 to go to juco 😂😂😂..btw my squad won that basketball tournament he talking about lol ..players on the real basketball team couldn't play but my basketball scholarship dint start till the next year so I was able to sneak in 😂😂😂 plus I'm only 6 foot so nobody baited a eye until we was about to win the championship..I was killing 😂😂😂😂
I'm sorry the running back was my Lil brother and it was not Williams it was Jas Hopkins and I have THE NJCAA Harlon Hill Trophy at my home to prove it. #25 He also had 160 on 35 carriers but Cam still got the one trophy that mattered.
Brenham Texas is way more known for Blue Bell Ice Cream and being the Bluebonnet(Texas State Flower) capital of Texas, than it is for Blinn Junior College lol....
wrong jason perrie paul wasnt on that team he played againts that was year before when we went to juco championship me an jpp went on same visit to Arizona the week before out game.
Jb so full of crap. Ole dude from fsu that was his QB rolled up with money and damn near told him what play he was gonna call, cussed him out on the sideline and never got cut. 😂

Cam isn’t lying… Making it out of a JUCO is hard as hell.
What makes it hard i know about lack of resources and living arrangements but what other things make it hard?
