Dear god this is one of my favorite Maiden songs!!! This was one of my earliest introductions to the band. Bruce's powerful voice is insane! You can't go wrong with Maiden. UP THE IRONS!
Dammit! As I've aged this song brings a tear to my eye, as azz kicking as it is. Those were my "Golden Years", and I really wish I had spent the time appreciating them instead of racing to the next thing. For you young ones, appreciate each day you're given!
OMG, yes. I adore this song and it does bring a lump to my throat when I hear it now because I can’t help but reflect on all the time that’s passed since this album was released. 🤘🏼
Amen! This reactions bring me back to when I was discovering those songs an bands, the afternoons after school gathering at someone’s house to listen to a vinyl someone had just bought, I felt so alive back then.
Dammit Rob .... Preaching to me. OH!!!! To do it over again, but realizing what kind of amazing dream I was actually living! My god, it was just like MTV in my everyday real life! Our high-school was every 80s movie rolled into one.
So true! But don't waste these years pining for the past either. These too are Golden Years. All of life is, basically, as life is short no matter how many years we live.
Right. I think the point of the song is that you (we!) are still in our Golden Years, so appreciate right now, don't waste what we have. I think I'll go listen to "right now" by Van Halen... right now.
I'll never forget the Summer of '86 when this song/video came out... this was the first song we heard before the album was released and you could tell it was an instant classic. Nice to see it's still passing the test of time, great reaction!
Saw the Somewhere in Time concert at 15, first time seeing Iron Maiden, had that shirt for years, really wish I'd picked up another. Before that I wore out the Live After Death cassette tape haha.
So happy you are doing one I've requested! 😊 Now, if you could do Rime of the Ancient Mariner, I will be ecstatic. Great musicianship with in-depth storytelling. I promise you'll love it!
But not the Flight 666 version. Bruce's voice has clearly degraded over the years (happens to pretty much every singer) so earlier versions sound much better.
Holds a special place in my heart because this song was the main reason for the Somewhere In Time album to become the first one I ever purchased with my own money from my little cleaning job at the Laundromat at age 12. As others have already said, you definitely need to do Stranger In A Strange Land
Can’t say enough about Steve Harris on bass , quite simply one of the best contemporary bassist out there. It all revolves around him. Composer, lyrics, production.
If you take time out and just listen to the bass, you can hear how it not only plays the counter melody, but also _drives_ the song in sections. Just as much as the percussion does. It's so artful how he does that.
Exactly. The bass player should be the bridge between the beat and the rhythm and I think Steve is one of the bast at it I would like to think all this brilliance I just said is mine but I have a friend and she’s a professional recording bassist & is a monster talent and she explained it to me. Haha. Have a fantastic day.
Their stage show is nothing short of amazing. I have seen them several times over the decades, and I was not disappointed when I go to see them in FLA recently.
This is the song that got me into Iron Maiden back in the 80s! If you're up to it, try Rime of the Ancient Mariner. 13 minutes of 🔥! UP THE IRONS!!!🤘🤘🤘
I have seen this band 14 times!! I'm a drummer, Nicko is one of my favs...he goes nuts on this song! There is a lot going on in this song overall. Nicko seems to play tricky (NOT easy) drum fills, all while keeping a steady rocking groove! That is what he does best, "Powerslave", "Two Minutes To Midnight", "Aces High", "Where Eagles Dare" and so on....UP THE IRONS!!!
Graduated in '89, this song is definitely my generation's anthem. A flood of memories every time and it's been played at every funeral I've been to from people in that era. It brings peace.
My favorite from them. Bruce Dickerson and Geoff tate from queensryche have a similar sound. Both have very powerful voices. Take hold of the flame live from Tokyo from queensryche should be your next metal song. His voice is insane in that song! ❤❤❤
You can't go wrong with Iron Maiden! I'm often streaming with my Iron Maiden shirt on, I took my nephew to his first concert when he was 11 to see Iron Maiden, and it was His choice, he was into them, the younger kids are discovering this stuff and loving it!! You should check out Fear of the Dark, Alexander the Great, Powerslave, or When the Wild Wind Blows. Also Jay, you love guitar, you should check out the brand new Extreme song Rise, everyone everywhere is raving about the solo by Nuno Bettencourt!
It's about time. This is such a great song, from a great album. I rocked this album over and over, back in the day. I still love it. I'd describe Iron Maiden's guitar sound as clean. That bass is so good, too.
I was more of a classic and prog rock fan during the 80s but have gained a respect for these guys over the last few years. I recently saw Maiden on this last tour in Newark and was absolutely blown away at how good they are. I totally developed an appreciation for the group. The documentary Flight 666 is a must see. My playlist now has several hits including this one which is one of my favs. While serving in the USMC on Okinawa in 1986 there were several “sound pubs” which are basically decent bars with a ton of Bose 901s or Klipsh monitors playing rock n roll so loud you couldn’t hear the dude next to you talking. One of the all time memorable songs and video they use to play was Run to the Hills. It was awesome!
That's very cool. Did it have the different Eddies and the control panel stuff from the beginning and end of the video? Oh. And I already do love this song.
I remember being one year out of high school and starting college in Sept 1986, right around the day this song came out. It immediately became my favorite Maiden song, and nothing has changed my opinion about that in all these years.
I am going to age myself but I saw Maiden live in 1986. I was in high school. To this day, the best live show I have ever seen. This is a great song. Love your reactions. Keep it up and thanks for doing this song.
Yup. Saw the tour - 3rd night, two encores including Sanctuary. Never forgot the amazing Eddie head drum riser that inflated and propelled Nicole up to 10+ ft. Being right at the front it was simply epic...
My absolute favorite Iron Maiden song!! And my absolute favorite guitar solo of all time!! You mentioned the guitar and you mentioned the drums (which are both killer), but listen to it one more time paying close attention to that driving bass. One of my all time favorite songs.
Yes!! I’ve literally be waiting for y’all to get to this one since your first Iron Maiden reaction. This is one of their best, which there are many. Keep up the Iron Maiden journey. You won’t be disappointed. They’re arguable one of the best Metal bands of all time. Loved that you both loved this. #UpTheIrons 🤘🏼🔥
I remember the first song I heard that I knew it was Iron Maiden and I was hooked. The song was Revelations. Then after falling down the hole, I realized I had heard a few others and just didn't know who it was. I was happy that I finally found out who. I remember playing the songs Iron Maiden and Wasted Years on my guitar until my fingers bled. For another prog band out of the '80s that had a similar if not more of an effect on me, try Crimson Glory. The songs that specifically drew me in were Queen of the Masquerade, Lady of Winter, In Dark Places, and Burning Bridges. But it's hard to find anything that isn't great by CG. Great reactions. Just saw this channel and now I gotta catch up.
TOTAL Blaster!! Saw them for this tour in Hollywood, Florida (Sportatorium) in 1986 my Senior Year in highschool. This Was one of the LOUDEST Concerts I have ever been. My ears were fried for about a week. GREAT musicianship and great tunes!
This song was a wakeup call for me in ~2003. I'd gone through a bad breakup the previous year, and was just kind of floating through age 29. I got my shit together, got focused. Saved up for a house, asked the girl out (she said no), but later met my wife of (now) 15 years. Glad you enjoyed this.
One of my favorite Iron Maiden songs. I remember the 1st time seeing the video, I was so drawn into the graphics, the different faces of Eddie. Then the guitar, drums and vocals just keep me loving it throughout the years.
I got mad respect for the Maiden. They've been in the game for so many years, still rocking hard, treating their fans right and pumping out killer tunes.
You know that’s right! Took my teenage grandson to the Book of Souls concert in Charlotte. Both of us, head bangin’ and blown away by how hard Maiden rocked! Still got it after all of these years…so does Maiden! 😂🤣. As I’m now living in my true Golden Years, this song rings even truer still! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Iron Maiden always rocks! You can never go wrong with them! "Hallowed Be Thy Name" or "Flight of Icarus" should next or "Tailgunner" or "Number of the Beast". I could go on and on!! Another metal band you should check out is Anthrax. They, Metallica and Megadeth are the peak of thrash metal! Check out "Only". James Hetfield once called it the perfect metal song.
what's cool is how you two are open minded to listen to all genres of music. I have seen Iron Maiden 2x's live and both times 2 of the best concerts I've seen so much fun ty
I first heard 'Wasted Years' on KNAC radio back in the Fall of 1986. I immediately went out and bought the album on cassette. Damn, where have all the 'Wasted Years' gone?!
Adrian Smith (guitar) wrote this track back in 1986... Iron Maiden's bassist/ bandleader Steve Harris recalled that Adrian never contributed lyrics to the band; he wrote the music and would hand it to Bruce Dickinson (vocals) or Harris to write lyrics... But for the 1986 album 'Somewhere in Time'... Adrian wrote 3 songs w/ all the lyrics and did the bulk of the solos on 'Wasted years'... He clearly had a lot on his mind, because he quit Iron Maiden in 1989... (He rejoined in 1999).
If you ever get a chance to see them live...do it. It is an experience you won't forget. Even now that they are in their 60s and 70s, they obsolutely kill it.
Yes, back to Iron Maiden, my first metal love as a young teen!! Maiden were a band that wasn't supported by the industry or the media back in the day so the fact they are as big as they are is a credit to their skill and love of the genre. 'Can I Play with Madness' is another song by Maiden I think you would enjoy!!
So many great songs in their catalog. They aren't just heavy, they're intelligent too. "The Trooper", "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Aces High", and "Can I Play With Madness" all need to be on your schedule to hit. And even they won't begin to scratch the surface. UP THE IRONS!
This is one of my absolute favorite Iron Maiden songs. The guitar solo is short but it's quite possibly on of the best you'll ever hear. Thank You for the great videos.
Been fortunate to see them several times. You’ll be hard pressed to find a band that seems to enjoy playing live as much as these guys. They have a blast every time they hit the stage.
About as close as they ever got to a pop song. Always loved it. Could have easily put this on top 40 radio and it would gave been a sure hit. Very melodic and catchy. Who wouldn't love this one!
Yassss! Been waiting for this one! I love your description "the guitars sound electric like lightening bolts are going to come out". Classic. Everything hits hard in this song. I'm surprised you didn't mention the bass as well. 😊 Great reaction.❤
Adrian Smith's intro is amazing! As drummer Nicko McBrain said, " He just picks stuff out of the air & brings it to life, I've never known anyone else that could do that!"
Maiden!!! 🤘🏼Graduated in ‘86, I think that’s when this came out(?). Anyway one of my top 5 concerts to see was Iron Maiden! Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner is amazing but I am a biased and love all they put out!
My favorite song of all time probably. So personal to the band, and they all stepped up. Off Maiden's best album "Somewhere in time". Check out "Alexander the great" and "loneliness of the long-distance runner" or just the whole album really.
The second track of the sensational Somewhere in time is a mix of pure energy, positivity and the incredible musicianship that only Maiden possesses😉up the Irons🤘
I finally got to see them live in Tampa this year. Absolutely one of the best concerts I've ever seen. I can only hope I get to see them live again. The way they play to the crowd, they make you feel like you are a part of the show.
And it's hard to believe that the song is almost 40 years old and still rockin' like it just came out yesterday! Definitely one of my all time favourite songs from my favourite band.
Thank you from one of Maiden’s first American fans. They were not wasted years or hours or minutes listening to what became a top 3 band for me. From 1980 on these guys helped me navigate my listening preferences with musical genius.
I'm with you David! Saw Maiden for the first time when they opened for Priest on the 1982 "World Vengeance" Tour and been a big fan and seen them many times live since. Nothing quite like the energy of a Maiden show! I was a little young to see them on the earlier tour when DiAnno was still the lead vocalist, but sure would have loved to have seen that tour in 1980!
Best band I ever saw live, and I’ve seen plenty!! So tight, so intense, so pro, this was at Donington MoR they were headlining…..the only time I stood there mouth agape; the rest of the line up were great, I headbanged and moshed all the way through but I was mesmerised by their performance!! Perfection. Just the best.
To date myself, I was 13 when this album came out. It was my intro to Maiden and here I am 37 years later still on the journey. Their latest of 17 studio albums was released in September of 2021. Great band with multi generational fan base.
Oh yeah! Up the Irons!! One of my favorite 80s metal bands. I think my first concert t-shirt I got -- I collect them -- was an Iron Maiden t-shirt from the Piece of Mind tour in 1983. This song you played is the closest thing to a "pop" hit Maiden has probably ever done. Just saw them again live in October on the recent tour -- they were incredible! Still crushing it live even though everyone in the band is in their mid to late 60s. Nicko McBrain, the drummer, is 70! And plays just as hard and heavy as back in the 80s. One of the best live bands ever.
I grew up in the late 70s and early 80s and listening to Maden was one of my faves. I can’t tell you how cool it was later in life when my 12-year-old son walks up to me and says hey dad I just found out about this new band you’re gonna love they’re called …..Iron Maiden! you can only imagine the smile on my face as I lead him into the inner sanctum of my iron maiden album collection and promptly bought tickets to the next iron maiden concert at the forum in Los Angeles for my son and I !……… my job is done here I’m out!….lol
Saw them from their first tour on up. 18 times! Old School! Great live band! I’m telling you, JUDAS PREIST: Riding on the Wind, studio version, will kick your ass! I guarantee it! Talk about pumping you up! It’s a standout among standouts.
🤘YES!!! I'm really glad to see that you guys are taking a liking to Maiden. I recommend listening to “Can I Play With Madness” or “Infinite Dreams” next. After these, we’ll start getting into the harder stuff. These guys are an awesome band to see live. UP THE IRONS!!!🤘🤘🤘
So happy for another Iron Maiden song! They remain one of my very favorites, and this is a great song by them. If you're wanting to take a trip into metal, I would HIGHLY recommend the German metal band Helloween! Like Maiden, just about anything from them is great, but many of their top songs are all over 10 minutes. If you're interested, I'd recommend "I Want Out", or maybe "Eagle Fly Free" as 2 great songs that are of shorter duration. Oh! The official music video version of their song "Skyfall" is amazing too! Keep up the great work!!
The driving beat of this song is relentless and screams PARTY!!! So many phenomenal memories with song!! Every song on this album just kills it!! 🔥 So glad you two did this one!! Keep going!! RSR Rocks!!! @RobSquadReactions
Love this song. A lot of fans were upset that they experimented with synthesizers on “somewhere in time” the album this track is from. This is one of my fave maiden guitar solos. J you should buy this album for amber. I bet you would both love it!
Dear god this is one of my favorite Maiden songs!!! This was one of my earliest introductions to the band. Bruce's powerful voice is insane! You can't go wrong with Maiden. UP THE IRONS!
Mine was back at TNOTB.
great song but there earlier songs so much better
Killers was my intro to Iron Maiden before they hit the states. Great band.
UP THE IRONS!!!🤘😎
Flight Of Icarus, was the first for me!

Right. I think the point of the song is that you (we!) are still in our Golden Years, so appreciate right now, don't waste what we have. I think I'll go listen to "right now" by Van Halen... right now.
One of the BEST guitar solos EVER
I'll never forget the Summer of '86 when this song/video came out... this was the first song we heard before the album was released and you could tell it was an instant classic. Nice to see it's still passing the test of time, great reaction!
It is the future after all
And this is my first listen.......ahhhh!!!...all the wasted years!!!
saw them for this tour...was the loudest concert I have ever been to...great musicianship and killer tunes!!!
Saw the Somewhere in Time concert at 15, first time seeing Iron Maiden, had that shirt for years, really wish I'd picked up another. Before that I wore out the Live After Death cassette tape haha.
I concur sir! I too was there!
Those guitar solos are just relentless. That lineup....everyone is just so good on this album. Tis song is currently in my workout playlist.
@@ramonacosta2647 yeah I was thinking Live After Death or the original album version
"This is what not to do if a bird sh*ts on you!"
By far their best song!
@@ramonacosta2647 Rubbish, his voice sounds great in that version. It's also a more entertaining version in general.
Holds a special place in my heart because this song was the main reason for the Somewhere In Time album to become the first one I ever purchased with my own money from my little cleaning job at the Laundromat at age 12.
As others have already said, you definitely need to do Stranger In A Strange Land
I, myself got my first job at 13 as a janitor, just so I could buy 45s & albums. Rock on!
... plus all the other songs on the album.
There's a lot of maiden you still need to discover. They have tons of music to hear.
One of Adrian smith’s best guitar work
Can’t say enough about Steve Harris on bass , quite simply one of the best contemporary bassist out there. It all revolves around him. Composer, lyrics, production.
this
It has to be said that this song was composed by Adrian Smith...
But rest is very true.
Fair enough.
If you take time out and just listen to the bass, you can hear how it not only plays the counter melody, but also _drives_ the song in sections. Just as much as the percussion does. It's so artful how he does that.

I know they don’t usually pay attention to such things but the succession of different Eddies is worthy of note.
This 60 yr. old headbanger loves this song 🔥
52-year old Maiden fan here! We'll always love them!
I think a lot of us Gen Xers saw them live in the mid 80s. Epic band. What a show.
73 year old fan, basically since they started, up the Irons!!
This is one of Maiden's best ever. A total classic, especially Adrian's opening riff and the lyrics.
This has got to be my favorite Maiden song. Got to see them in Atlanta on this album’s tour. Incredible. Thank you
Their stage show is nothing short of amazing. I have seen them several times over the decades, and I was not disappointed when I go to see them in FLA recently.

Eddie is the only metal mascot to have survived all these years
Iron Maiden is the best (live;) BAND in the world😜

I recently took my 15 yr old daughter to see Iron Maiden in concert. She loved it! They're amazing live 🎸🤘🔥
One of the rare and personal types of lyrics from Maiden. Phenomenal tune 🤘🤘

This is such a great song, from a great album. I rocked this album over and over, back in the day. I still love it. I'd describe Iron Maiden's guitar sound as clean. That bass is so good, too.

Iron Maiden is awesome !! You both rock for liking so many different kinds of music. Thank you for these videos!!
Iron Maiden
One of the best if not the best original metal bands of all time. You can't go wrong with any Iron maiden song 🎸🤘
This was the first tour I saw live in Manchester, UK. Met the band after the show. Great band, great guys and great song
Oh yeah.....one of the best by one of the best. Maiden is so versatile with their sound, and they all just slay! Great react!! More please!

If you ever get a chance to see them live...do it. It is an experience you won't forget. Even now that they are in their 60s and 70s, they obsolutely kill it.
Thanks, this is my all time favorite Iron Maiden. I have been hoping you'd get to this
Yes, back to Iron Maiden, my first metal love as a young teen!!
Saw them 3 times in the 80’s… My favorite metal band!!!!! Up the Irons!!!!!!
One of their best songs. Up the Irons! Maiden Maiden Maiden!
Maiden!!! 🤘🏼Graduated in ‘86, I think that’s when this came out(?). Anyway one of my top 5 concerts to see was Iron Maiden! Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner is amazing but I am a biased and love all they put out!
One of my favorites......from my favorite Iron Maiden album......."Caught Somewhere in Time "👍😁
My favorite song of all time probably. So personal to the band, and they all stepped up. Off Maiden's best album "Somewhere in time". Check out "Alexander the great" and "loneliness of the long-distance runner" or just the whole album really.
One of my favorite song!! Keep going with Maiden!!
"can I play with madness" is the jam.
Maximum speed front start to finish! One of the greatest riffs of 80's metal! UP THE IRONS!
Maiden is one of the all-time great bands still performing today....
Saw them from their first tour on up. 18 times! Old School! Great live band!
I’m telling you, JUDAS PREIST: Riding on the Wind, studio version, will kick your ass! I guarantee it! Talk about pumping you up! It’s a standout among standouts.
My favorite Maiden song of all time ...easily!
Love it guys,ur faces when they broke out in the solo…..made my day💪👍✌️
Y'all 2 have grown a lot along ur musical journey. Congrats on becoming "Head Bangers", enjoy!!
Adrian Smith wrote this piece and it´s one of the greatest from their wast catalogue. Thanks for this and greetings from Finland!
One of my favorites. Thanks for a wide variety of music. 😊
Absolutely a must see live band!!! You will fully understand then!
TY! The lead singer is one of the top fencer in england and a Jet pilot, he even fly's the 757 tour jet they have!
Maiden music is full of melodies and harmonies
So many great songs off that album. Alexander the Great, The loneliness of the long distance runner, so good.
They are iconic. They are consistent. They are eternal. UP THE IRONS!!!!!
So glad you two did this one!! Keep going!! RSR Rocks!!! @RobSquadReactions
This was the first concert I took my little brother to. He was 12 years old
I love almost everything Iron Maiden have ever produced - but this is absolutely my favourite.
Love this song. A lot of fans were upset that they experimented with synthesizers on “somewhere in time” the album this track is from. This is one of my fave maiden guitar solos. J you should buy this album for amber. I bet you would both love it!
You'll be surprised learning more about Iron Maiden, amazing Live performances ❤
Guys! You HAVE to check Hallowed Be Thy Name. It's one of their best songs.
