I'm glad Maya Bay is opened now and people not going in the water. I've been to Maya Bay quite a few times before it closed. The first time was just crazy busy but after that I decided to go there around 7.30am when there was only 2 or 3 people and left at 9.00am just before the mad rush. I did this Phi Phi tour from Phuket and from Ao Nang, then from Phi Phi Don Island too
Ahh so cool!! Next time we go back to the Phi Phi islands I would LOVE to get a boat there early before all the tours/people! It would be amazing to be on Maya Bay with only a few others 😍😍😍
As a Thai, I'm concerned about the Chinese tour group that will show up following the Chinese government's "Zero COVID" policy's relief. They are unlikely to follow the rule, and when there are so many of them around, it is like a nightmare. I believe that western tourists are lucky to be able to enjoy the tranquility of Maya Bay without being surrounded by crowds of Chinese tourists. Local tourists are an exception; from what I've observed, they would rather take photos and walk on the beach than swim.
@@weekdaycycling I'm in agreement with you on this - they are absolute nightmares. I don't mind a few people here and there but not in so many tour groups. I actually go and take photos rather than swim most of the time anyway
To me and, I believe, most Thais, the shark's point sounds dangerous: never get into the water. But for you and most foreign tourists, let's jump into the water and hope to see sharks. Swimming is prohibited in Maya Bay due to the presence of many black-tip sharks, which can be dangerous to tourists. It is also a larvae's birthplace and nursery, as well as a disruptor of coral regeneration.
🤣🤣 that's so funny that Thais don't want to swim there but all the foreigners jump in 🤣 it's so true tho! We just went back to Koh Phi Phi with our parents and we swam with some black-tip sharks close to Phileh Bay Lagoon! We thought it was so exciting at the time but I guess it could be quite dangerous! 😱
@@NataliesPassport In the past, as many as 4,000 arrived daily on flotillas of tourist boats that damaged the coral and scared off the black-tip reef sharks that used the bay as a mating pool. Crowds trampled the delicate sea floor and coral. To stop further damage, authorities closed Maya Bay to tourists in June 2018. The Thai marine biologist "Thon Thamrongnawasawat" at Bangkok's Kasetsart University spearheaded the effort to save Maya Bay and he is 100% right about that. This is one of the high value nature treasures in Thailand so we have to save this treasure for our country and next generations to come. They are watching closely with the other places and if the same problem in this regard reoccurring I think closing down is inevitable.
@@mobileplus3218 They're soooo far from Bangkok so it'll be hard 😭 hopefully when my work contract ends at the end of March we'll get to travel freely a little! They similan islands look gorgeoussss! 😍

Hi its a nice video with simple information. And shall we know whether we need to take our passport along with us to all places or we can keep it in our hotel itself
You always need your passport to check into a hotel in Thailand, but then we leave our passports in the hotel 🥰 (some things require a passport like certain motorbike rentals….we usually just keep a picture on our phone and try to leave an ID card instead)
We actually booked it through our hotel (they gave us the best price) but if you watch our other video From Phuket to Phi Phi, you'll see there are SO many people selling tours right when you get off the ferry! There are also random stands around Phi Phi Don selling tours which were slightly cheaper than the people who grab you right off the ferry!
I guess it depends what the rest of your trip looks like/where you're coming from! We were in Phuket before but were heading to Krabi after. So for us it was cheapest to stay on the Phi Phi Islands and just do a day trip from there. If you're already staying in either Phuket or Krabi, a day trip from either of those places would probably be cheaper than getting to Phi Phi on your own!
Its ok to step in the water but you are not allowed to go deeper or swim. Oh..did u see blacktip sharks ? I saw them everytime i went. Maybe not many tourists back then.
Yessss - you can only go in a little for picture. There was a group of guys when we were there who kept trying to go farther and farther, making the security mad 🤦♀️ The trip in this video we didn’t see sharks, but we went again last month with our parents and we did!! 😍 we got tk snorkel with a couple of them right outside pileh lagoon and it was so cool! 😍😍
I forget what time it started, but it was in the morning.. I think we said the time in the vlog somewhere. But yessss - we didn't know anyone else on the boat! That's the cheap option ^_^
