    Does your vote matter?
When you take part in a vote that involves millions of people, like a presidential election or a referendum, does your vote really make a difference?
A single vote only matters if it affects the outcome.
For example, if everyone else votes, and one side is up by 300 votes, then it doesn't matter which way you vote, or if you vote at all, because your vote won't affect the outcome.
The only way your vote matters is if all other votes are balanced, and your single vote tips the result one way or another.
    But how likely is this?
Well, economists have estimated that the chance of a randomly selected vote determining the outcome of a presidential election is about one in 60 million.
So you have more chance of winning the lottery, or being killed by lightening, than you have of your vote making a difference.
Or to put it another way, your vote is statistically insignificant and will almost certainly not determine the outcome of a presidential election.
But even worse, it has been estimated that you have more chance of being run over by a car on your way to vote, than you have of your vote making a difference in an election.
So next time you go to vote, be careful.
    Thanks for watching.

You could have just said, “Electoral College”. No one’s vote will ever matter.
