    This helps so much! I have a music assessment and I always get confused on how to tell if a piece is a Jig or a Reel.
    Thank-you!

      A 6/8 jig has a different beat so if you clap your hands to a jig it will be 1 23 like a gallop the beats in a reel are even 123, Scottish jigs are slower than reels, hope this helps

    Oddly enough, that was actually helpful out of all the viedos I've been watching!!! Thank you, ladies! You're amazing musicians, and I love your humor and inviting presence! Keep playing!

      Reels are in 4, jigs are in 3 that's the difference

    I'm a tragic accordionist in Australia, I used to play a lot of Scottish, some dancers told me they couldn't tell the difference between a jig and a reel and I used to try to explain it by hand clapping, your demonstration would have been ideal, you are pretty girls and great players.

      I'm an Australian musican... so would it be accurate to say a jig is accented in 3s... and a reel is in 4s.

      Would love to know the ethnicity of these lovely girls. Gothard is not a name that reached Ireland, & with one of the girls being named Greta, I'm guessing they are of German ancestry. Doesn't matter, I like them.

      John Stephen Dwyer a hornpipe is a wee bit slower and has a kind of "swing" to it, usually written in simple time

    • @differous01
      @differous01 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most hornpipes go 1. 'one banana...', some go 2. 'banana one...' (eg. Captain Pugwash theme, the 'Trumpet Hornpipe') & some skip a beat to get 3. a "YAH_wobble" - eg. Kate Bush's 'Rocket Man' combines reggae & hornpipe. ('YOUR momma...' also works but, rhythm-wise, 'Your mom' is a polka;-)
