We love our Coletriever so much. She's four and is a great companion to our little girl with Down Syndrome. Smart, sweet and so loving. I can't imagine our world without her.

I happened to own a coltriever without knowing what they really are, I preassumed they are just mixed golden retrievers. But they are different. I thank God that I've given this loving thing. They are very distinctive to golden retrievers by how they behave. They need a place and stimulation like border collies require. Mine looks like a legit golden retriever, he looks smarter and his hair is tougher but people think he's a golden retriever. I really can tell you this breed behave different from golden retriever. Very attentive, alert, and, sort of... always provoke me to play with him like throwing me a joke. Like he's making fun of me. He's so lovely lolol

I have two coltrievers. They are he best dogs I've ever known. They are smart, playful, calm when you need them to be, and always loving. Great with babies, cats, chickens, people and other dogs.If you're thinking of getting one, don't hesitate. Word of warning. They are sensitive. If you are a harsh or brash person, this is not the dog for you.

I love borders and have 18 yrs experience with them. I love goldens as well and we found our coltretriever a little over a yr ago. He is awesome!!! Best dog ever. I have 2 autistic children and a type 1 diabetic child as well. Our max alerts to seizures and never been trained. It is just natural for him. The ease of training with our Max has been awesome!

This is so beautiful. I have a coltriever from Holly. Her name is Sophie and Sophie is absolutely the smartest dog I have ever seen. She makes up games and has since she was a puppy! She is truly an amazing dog!

My dog Pearl who will be three this October came from Holly and is 3/4 Golden Retriever and 1/4 Border Collie. I cannot say enough amazing things about Pearl or my experience with Holly. Pearl is an incredibly well rounded dog and absolutely incredible with other animals and children. I would highly recommend anyone to get their dog from Holly, it won't be a decision you will ever regret. ~Sarah Keyser

What a truly lovely story. I am owned by a border collie, but I have a massive love of the golden. I love that you select the right breed for temperament and not looks. What a really beautiful person, whom I strongly suspect does this not for financial gain of any sort, but truly to help our vulnerable people. A highly noticeable love of dogs surely doesn't hinder her vocation. Heart warming.

Thank-you for sharing. I have a Coltriever and she is my world. She will be 3yrs old in Nov. I do believe she was Inbred and it at times has been challenging. I got her at 6mnths from a family member that shld not have purchased her and had her caged the whole time. With patience, love and trust she has become the best gift I could have ever recieved.

I have a Coltriever. He is the sweetest dog ever. He likes you to put your face on his nose and and whisper to him. We call it muzzle murmers. Mine is mostly black and has more of a border collie look to him, but as he has matured, he has developed a Golden Retriever body shape. He is my constant companion and I love him to death. I know he is related to your dogs as I remember the breeder told me about Crooked Rooster. I'd have to dig out his papers to know what the relationship was though.

I love my Grizzly Bear. He's the best companion I could ever ask for. He really helps my depression and stress and is truly the sweetest, most loving dog I've ever had.
Edit: one year later and we're still tight as ticks. He even loves our new kitten!

My pure bred Border Collies could do these jobs too. My Tess knew when my sugar level went up or down and she taught my Gypsy Rose Lee how to help me. Tess's son, Maxwell Smart, became a service dog for a little girl with CP and seizures. Our other BC's became herding dogs for sheep (or cows) and family dogs. These look like great dogs too.

Picking up my coltretriever tomorrow! She’s half English Cream Golden Retriever and half Border Collie. In looks, she takes after her dad (the English Cream) but she seems way more alert than most Goldens and I’ve owned purebred Golden Retrievers. Looking forward to seeing which genes are truly dominant in my little beauty. I don’t even have a name for her yet!

I had a border collie growing up. As a young adult at age 21 I wanted a border collie again but we lived in a apartment and I didn't think it was fair so after doing a lot of research for two years or so I got a golden. I'm now 27 and I do love my Goldie, He's about 5 now. But I do definitely miss the smarts of the border collie who was my heart dog as my goldie is sweet but he's stubborn and a bit on the dumb side. My goldie is actually a high energy guy and a small runt male only about 55lbs so he gets mistaken as a female, His sisters are much bigger then him lol. He's a little dumb and derpy but I still love him & as he's aged he's gotten better in some ways. He doesn't bark much so I like it. Though he does drool a bit too. I want to get a little brother for him in 2 years when we move to a bigger space and have a yard for them to play together in. I have been thoroughly thinking of what would make a good companion for him and for me. He likes all kinds of dogs size wise. I think having a smaller dog is a little tempting to me as i've never had a small dog and I think healthcare wise , boarding, grooming and food you save a lot more. I was considering a cardigan or pembroke corgi as there's a active corgi community where i'm at and i've wondered if i'd get some of the border collie smarts with them but not the same amount of job needs or busy work and then they'd be smaller but not too small? I'm also considering a poodle because they come in 2nd place in terms of smarts and I also like how they don't shed. Though i'm personally not a huge fan of the curly dog look and I know there's a lot of grooming needed. But my goldie sheds a ton of tufts all year round so that would be nice to not have a dog that sheds. I also like papillons too because they are also quite smart, cute and have good personalities if trained properly and i'm the type to do my research and train thoroughly with positive reinforcement. After seeing this video on my recommends I was super skeptical but after watching I now wonder though if a coltriever might be a nice mix for me as I have had experience with both breeds? I'm normally not in support much of 'designer breeds' however. This mix kind of seems tempting to me. I still got quite awhile to decide and do research but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these breeds to please let me know? I wish I could just have a border collie because I super love how intelligent they are, But they really do need a lot of work. My border collie barked a lot more, Was more protective, Didn't like or enjoy baths. My goldie loves the water so that's been a plus to me and he's super friendly and wouldn't even bite a fly and has a soft mouth. Sometimes I don't like how he's willing to just hang out or go off with anyone though it worries me if someone would steal him it would be easy :[ I miss that strong bond me and my border collie had as he was very bonded to me. Where as my golden loves everyone? Also my golden still pulls on the leash and we have tried everything sense he was 8 weeks old : / my border collie did a bit too but not as bad. So there's a lot of pros and cons and I just wonder if the mix of both would be good?

I have had Poodles all my life...I still have to stay alert in order to outwit them or to even stay even. They are so attuned to their human. Now, with my Bearded Collie smartie pants puppy, it has been fascinating to watch the Poodle train the puppy while the puppy tries to herd the Poodle, to her great amusement. They do smile and laugh, you know 😄! The two are a joy together...and I am so fortunate to be a part of their world! May you always
      have that same experience !

So… my family JUST adopted what we think is a coltreaver puppy from the pound. we narrowed down the possibilities and this is like 80% chance based on his features and size. He was abandoned with his 3 siblings and he’s only 3 months but we are noticing how SMART he is right off the bat and his personality is very mellow yet attentive. We got him registered for lessons next month( this month is full) but we got a dog for my dad because he’s retired and needs a dog to watch him as he YES has diabetes and some ptsd memory and anxiety issues… we wondered if we would ever find a dog that could at least learn the basics to keep him company but IMAGINE OUR SURPRISE WHEN WE LOOKED UP WHAT HE ACTUALLY MIGHT BE?!?! Of ALL the possible breeds we could have found by chance, to be given the job of attending to someone and being their best friend?!?! Cross your fingers! We are doing our upmost best to give “Java” all that deserves- already Dad is improving just being around him and attending to his needs and walking and playing- but we now look forward to his training next month even more so.

I'm usually on "Missouri Ozarks Music and Video" as I'm the camera operator, video editor, etc. and there is an audio editor, because I don't know math and music is math based. Hi, I'm Rick and I have some Aspergers. I'm a disabled veteran and a widower. The dogs.....Paris passed away in December. Nicole died yesterday. Paris was 15 and Nicole was 16. I found them at a farm store for $25 each in 2005, a border collie and golden retriever mix and the breeder just needed to sell them. My wife died two years before. My neighbor bought the one and named her Paris, and I bought Nicole, but in a few months I had both of them. A dog by themselves was destructive, but paired up and they were mostly angelic. I found if I was going to have a bad night sleeping, they'd know. I knew they were special dogs, but I didn't know they were bred to help someone like me. Paris died of cancer and strokes took Nicole. They were special and I doubt I ever find such little miracles for $25 again. If you're gonna buy this breed, I recommend getting two so they calm each other. I miss those two.

Wow! This is awesome! Thank you for all that you do mam. I had a (non-border) collie when I was a child. I have been doing research, & it appears that golden retrievers are the best breed. I am a soldier in the U.S. Army, & I have been looking for a great dog for my family. Do they protect the families too from those who try to cause their owners harm? I am concerned as I am periodically away for training, & deployments, & eventually want to be a full-time RVer eventually.

Typically, retrievers are very friendly and not very good at being guard dogs. They likely would lick an intruder and beg to be fussed over harming an intruder.

I was so amazed that their puppies are black with white chest and white color in paws.
With so much researching, I came into COLTRIEVER conclusion.
Is it safe to assume. one of my GRs is a COLTRIEVER?

Is it possible to find a responsibly bred female merle coltriever? I ask because I've learned the unfortunate truth about double merles and want to avoid purchasing a puppy that could have been unethically bred. We currently have a black and white male coltriever and he's been a life-changing dog. If we have an argument at home, we take the time to tell Wesley that it's not his fault - he's *that* sensitive to our tone of voice and presence. My spouse and I both deal with emotional dysregulation / spectrum issues and appreciate this breed's high emotional intelligence and want more of that in our home.
