I strongly disagree, been playing PS1 and PS2 games latelly and i enjoy it a lot. You will get surprise how good games used to be in certain aspect, not saying all modern games are bad but a lot of thing were allow/common back then that are rarely see today.
Theres a strong sense of association with Pokémon cards and what i felt when i first saw a particular art. Its been super eye opening to see your new awareness.
I was poor as a kid. Now that I’m grown I’ve accumulated probably over 100-150 games for the Xbox and ps5, ps4. The kicker is that I don’t have a lot of time to play. But it’s the knowing. Knowing I have these games which I wasn’t able to have as a little kid. Really enjoy my collection and especially enjoy the time I have to play them.
The points you mention are exactly why i collect physical media. Beating Ducktales for NES every day after school and my mom watching me play the game. She recently passed away and i still have the copy that she got me back in the 80s. The problem with resellers is they make the games that we grew up with nothing more than a product to be bought and sold . Thats why true gamers get so upset by the price gouging .
I have a similar story about my dad and Paper Mario 64. I still have the same cartridge from when I was a kid. He died in 2019, and that cartridge always brings back such happy memories for me.
You hit the nail on the head. When people ask why I collect I just reply, «it’s just for fun», but if I were to ever answer on a deeper level it would be exactly like you said it. Thanks for the upload.
I have memories playing goldeneye with my grandpa. I may never play through the whole game again but I play a few levels here and there to take me back
The story mode was great, but that multiplayer mode with all four N64 controllers was also as fun. My brother and I thought it felt the same as Syphon Filter 2, had the same splitscreen multiplayer but only for two players.
After playing my kids old PS3 for the first time at the age of 62 (retired ) and having a blast, I started collecting physical PS3 games, and have nearly 300 now. I have more games that I will ever play for the rest of my life. If you enjoy the hunt, the accumulation, do it. Nobody bashes coin, stamp, bottle, spoon, ect collectors. Do what makes you happy.
@steviefreakinc Infamous, Resistance 2, and currently playing Dead Space. I play that one with the light on, not because it's creepy, but because I can see the controls better 😉
Collecting to me is about the appeal as art it provides in a space, the ability to bring about positive nostalgia, its return of investment over time and its ability to have value to others in the same way as it does for myself. I think as a man it is a good feeling to physically own something that has value to others.
Collecting is something that I just love. Its not even just about playing the games its also the history thats interesting to me. Seeing the progression of time. I only collect games that i truly want to play or have some historical significance to me. I started not too long ago in 2017. Made a list of all the consoles and the main games i wanted when i started. I could technically be done by now but to me part of the joy is also the hunt. Getting the games I want for a deal. I only have 10 games on my list now and its been a pleasure picking away at it. Technically its really just 3 games since the other 7 are for new consoles with games obviously still coming out.
Holding on to Physical copies to hold onto the memories is no different then my grandparents buying lunch boxes and comics from their childhood. We all want to relieve our childhood. I got a Gears of War Tattoo for the same reason I have a physical copy of the game. Those days staying up all night with my brothers completing Horde mode on every map was one of my favorite moments in my life and I like being reminded of that.
@steviefreakinc As someone who possibly has as many games as you I got a pro tip for tackling a backlog. Get a Notebook. Every game you start but decided to put down, write what you were doing last and what the next thing you were going to do in the game. Also write down any mechanic or tips you think youd end up forgetting over time. This way you have less pressure to play something else before finishing and less headache jumping back in. If you use physical copies you can even tare off that page and slide it into the case.
@@bananasean5145Might have to try these tips for myself. Sounds like good ideas. I especially like the notebook page suggestion, sounds like something cool to slip in the case, especially when hardly any games these days, if any at all, have no manuals. Wasn't a comment addressed to me you made in the first place, but love the comment anyways 👍🏻.
Picking Metal Sear Solid was an odd choice because there's no way I would want to play the Psycho Mantis fight without Memory Cards or a Controller that vibrates😅 For me, collecting is about preservation, we don't know if emulation will always be available for every game we want
The memories makes it all, i got rid of my gamecube with 15 games when i was 17, now a few years back i recollected all of those games back and feels good riminding you od your childhood
I love collecting games just to enjoy it and pull it down my shelf show my kids and enjoy it with them plus I can pass them on and hopefully they appreciate them as much as I do ..
Its good having a game collection to look at it and appreciate it. Its also good to have it because those games bring you back memories of the good old days. Gaming with my friend all night at a sleepover was something else theres nothing more special. Your video is so on point steve you were having fun in the moment and not realizing you were making special memories its different looking back at it as an adult.
Having the physical thing definitely brings you back in a way nothing else can. There will be details you forgot it reminds you of, and handling something the same way you used to will jog up memories you didnt even know you had.
Great video ! Heckin Steve is my favorite TH-cam video game content creator! Keep doing your thing and don’t let them beat your spirits down! You have people rooting for you!
I still hold on to my box of pirated PS1 discs (It was prevalent in my country back in the day). I was not a rich kid, every one of those discs I purchased was hard earned from what little money I had left for school, I travel far just to get to a shop that sells them, but it don't matter because I know I'll get rewarded with fun memories with my siblings and friends playing these games. There's really no reason to hold on to these discs, but looking at them relieves me from the stresses of middle aged life, reminds me of when life was simple and happy.
I’m right there with you. Some games are just locked into memory. Adding to your point. My 4 year old just discovered the greatness of TNMT. I own the original NES games me and my brother played, but also love playing those same games on Xbox One now. Keep up the great content.
Damn man that is rough to deal with at 12 years old. Rough to deal with in general but certainly shitty as a kid. The recovery of the childhood collection is a passion project for many. I would imagine by now you’ve probably surpassed what you had mostly though 💪
I just love learning about things I never knew about. The manuals, boxes, games, promo items, displays, etc. Each item means something to me. I’m always making memories whether it be the deal on how I got it, what information is on it/ the story behind it, or how the game plays.
That’s definitely a big plus for collecting physical. Another small recent example would be with Marvel vs Capcom Fighting collection. It came with a comic book. The digital peeps didn’t get that as far as I know. Even if they did, it was digital instead of literal paper
I agree, that's how I feel about being a CIB collector. I want to be able to create a memory even if its with a manual I lost or have never seen, the box I never held or saw before. There's something to be said about being able to see that piece of history. Like blowing the dust off an old book. And although I am not against digital media, nothing does beat holding a physical copy. Especially when it does come with manuals and inserts.
I don't mind Steam, i usually just buy them on deep sales unless it's something i really want. But with a backlog as large as mine, I'm never that brothered if I miss a new game. But apart from Steam, I always go physical media.
Very good points, yeah physical collecting although daunting if it's done excessively without limit can be fulfilling and really nice if you can limit it to special games that either you remembered or wanted to play for a long while. Good stuff mane
I believe changing my collective goals to All Killer No Filler is the move for me. That should lower the expense and personalize the collection better. Thanks for the comment broski.
I wish I had kept my personal collection it was pretty extensive over multiple consoles. Everything was mint I took great care of it all even the boxes, carts, CD's. The mindset back then was to resell the older games you were bored of to get newer stuff. Most people didn't think of the past but just what they were playing currently always expecting it to get better so why look back. Especially when I became exclusively PC gamer for a bit. Luckily my Bro still has my NES Castlevania 1-3 and some other randoms because he loves Nintendo, and I still kept my FF7 OG on PS1 from the Christmas the year it came out.
PS1 era of gaming was so awesome man. And yeah we didn’t think about games as a collectible thing yet. It was all about the next new experience we could get
Actually for me with some of the games I still have as a physical copy especially on the xbox 360 its the memory of when I was 15 or 16 years old when I held this game in my hand and its the same game I had all those years ago. Now im almost 32 but holding onto something I held onto as a teenager is special and nostalgic.
I liked your last video becuase it felt super genuine. Just a real dude talking. Of course the topic was something i think needs to be discussed more, so that helped. But i think the genuineness of it resonated really well.
It's also worth having a conversation about how collecting can easily turn into a spending addiction. Way too many people are doing "pick ups" videos, opening boxes of games they ordered... likely for hundreds of dollars, and sometimes maybe thousands. Games they do not actually have time for, purchased with money that shouldn't have been touched. Or worse, purchased with debt. It's clearly not a good thing at that point.
Its always good to collect for your own reasons and do it bc you enjoy it! I collect action figures of some of my favorite characters bc I love the way they look! I collect transformers bc I enjoy transforming them back and forth every now and then, its like a puzzle to me and it takes my mind off of stressful things. I started collecting vintage toys bc of the memories I had with those toys as a kid! And I started collecting retro games bc of the that same reason and I still enjoy playing them! This was a great video! I really like your outro music too by the way
A friend of mine owns a local shop and he has a crap ton of Joes as Trandformers there. He also has a decent personal collection of them. Pretty cool stuff to see and hold a metal figure from back in the day. Everything is plastic now as far as I know. And thanks, the song at the end is by a band called Tuff Data
Yeah, I remember going to a friend's house to play Mario 64 and hang out. He lived in a more affluent neighborhood, and nicer house, so it was like piece of Heaven. lol But he had everything. When I got there he had this remote control car he was racing around in the street. He had a trampoline, and big screen tv we watched the Stargate tv show on.
I collect cib games as well, and there's definitely a lot of reasons to it. For me, honestly half of it is being able to display the boxes. Seeing the unique art and how they advertised it on the back.. Reading the back of the box gives you an idea of what it wouldve been like as a kid to see it in a store. Its fun to see how they marketed things and its kind of like a time capsule of design, art style, marketing, etc. Holding the manual and seeing the awesome artwork inside, the inserts/ads it came with, or just being able to read the manual physically is nice. I also appreciate that the publisher and developer info, with copyright dates are on the box. Its fun to see one you recognize and track all the games they did over time, how they improved or shifted focus, etc. Maybe the most important thing is its a real thing i can touch and hold and see. Thats nice if it's something i made memories with, but it's also nice if its something new to me, because i enjoy experiencing it that way, like a pleasant reminder. Its just not the same seeing digital representations on a screen but having no reminders in real life. The physical object forces you to interact with it and think about it from time to time, whether because its on display, or just for cleaning/organizing, and thats a kind of reminder i enjoy. Its kind of like a promise of good times ahead, if i want to play it, as much as its a reminder of good times i had in the past. The funny thing is, being able to own something that i know the kid me would have wanted or loved is somehow its own kind of fun. That was all about retro games, but for modern games theres also the fact that only physical is true ownership and i can resell it later if i want. Cant forget those points.
Agree with the reason for collecting the games, and to add to this, it's damn good fun hunting for the ones you forget about and only remember as and when you come across them. A great and enjoyable hobby 😎👍
well said steve! i recently got a cheap ps2 slim bundle on marketplace. but i still emulate all ps2 games on my modded ps4. they run and look so much better. same with ps1 games.
i Feel at peace when playing games, and collecting games is one of my biggest joys in life i Don't know where i would be without them... I have played games all my life, And will for the rest of my life, Nothing brings me happines more than gaming 😊
Imo, I think every gaming, movie, music, reading, etc fan should have a CHOICE between both physical and digital media. That's what matters most in the whole picture. Good work on this video brother Steve. Making memories are always important too. 👍😎💯 #PhysicalMediaRocks
In all seriousness, i believe we collect for the same reason we take pictures. Its a snap shot of memory we had at that moment. We hold onto those pictures because its something tangible that proves to us that it actually happened and not just a memory. Memory fades the older we get, i think thats why we try to find things that help us remember those times. Collecting hurts us when we try to hold onto things and get things that dont bring us memories but just for the sake of having. Who cares if you only have 1 system and 1 game but you played that game everynight with your dad or friends. Who cares if the game is only worth $1 now because it means $1,000,000 to you. Learn to hold on to only the things that are only your memories and not someone elses and show off that raggety yellowed nes if it was the original one you had with the only 1 game your parents could afford to buy you. If this makes you finally realize you can let go of all those games now that dont mean anything to you, message me and ill buy them because im a ding dong cocksucker reseller😂😂😂
I keep telling my kids make sure you enjoy these times right now. With the only responsibility being school. I went to a local rental store and I remember when TMNT the arcade game came out for NES. I had to rent it for the first few weeks because they were near impossible to buy in store.
yup i remember that, not every store had the same games either on the rack like today you go into 10 stores they all have every game, back then theyd have the main few games that were new then it was random AF what they had.
I loved the video, I can relate to the past experiences, when I was a kid and I was not about to worry about love and all that stuff. All was about playing Nes games.
The reason that "Don't let collecting ruin your life" video got so popular was probably the title. It sounded interesting so I clicked on it. Now here I am watching your other videos too. And I agree there is a certain novelty about just talking in front of the camera instead of a produced video.
Another reason why I collect physical still to this day is because of my uncle that passed away In 2020 and he was the reason why I loved playing video games and i still have his whole collection put up and on top of that I lost my fiance in a car wreck in 2022 and we went to GameStop to buy games a lot and pokemon cards because it was something we both enjoyed doing I also have her collection put up as well 😢 Video games and pokemon why haven't I found your channel until now ! Also physical I buy only when it has an physical option & I buy digital when there's like only a digital version and has to be indies But for the most part I'm primarily physical if it's available I hate digital Sony couldn't get my account back that was hacked back in 2018 so I went all the way back to physical this Gen For me physical has always been in my life and recently I started back collecting switch games and it's amazing you can play without installing the games... well most of them and if you have an SD card the games that do require you to download something from the switch store it is completely playable offline as long as you have the game & the other parts on the system! I really enjoyed this video man you definitely deserve the credit. It hits hard when you lost the ones you were close to and played video games with In life. So I told myself I will continue to collect physical 💿 and pokemon cards, I also have all of my ladies cards in an binder put up, I was super into pokemon growing up so it just hits harder every time now
I love switch games because most first party games have little to no updates or patches. Such a fun system to collect for. Sorry to hear about your uncle man. Good dudes always leave us too early
True. In some ways, I find that physical game collecting is like owning classic cars. You're probably in the last generation to still have a heart for them. Once I'm gone, whoever gets my stuff will most likely just scrap all of it. 😢
I used to have a physical collection from mega drive, PS1 up to early PS4 and some handheld stuff but nowadays I'm all digital purely to save money and share. Can't remember the last time I swapped a disc with a friend.
Video game collecting is something i got into when my aunt bought me my first sega genesis. When i see a game i buy it to add to my collection i try to make sure its complete nine times out of ten or friends people give me stuff. I try to preserve history of gaming. I am going to contact a video game museum and ask then when i die to put my video games to be put on display to show what i collected and will be donated. If i want to play a physical game than i can play as many times as i want. When i have my family i want to pass my games onto them see how video games have paved the way from than to now.
I don’t really have a “vice” but hunting for games and things from my childhood makes me happy. I love playing the games but also the thrill of the hunt is addicting as well
Collecting certain games brings back good old memories of the care free times where you didn't have to worry about anything, and the future was new and bright. Ahhhhh!
I’m moving to the US in a couple months and I have a huge video games/figurines collection and it’s overwhelming in many ways but I can’t sell any of them because they all have a sentimental value (and financial too) and I know I will regret it if I do.
Collecting physical games is something i got into because my aunt got me my first sega and wanted to build an collection of games i have played in the past. i try to save every thing gaming related and if i ever had an family of my own i can pass them down to them. I have stuff that i have but other things have come up in my life that is make it tough to pay games.
We had the opposite here lol. The order of Rental Store death was Shows to Go, Movie Gallery, Block Buster, Hollywood Video and then Family Video RIP to the rental stores.
@@steviefreakinc Sports memorabilia guy myself, but some of the best "collection" vids come from the game community. We all have the same disease pretty much anyway
I'm on a similar page. I think a lot of my reason is that I'm just stuck in the old way. I'm a millennial with a boomerish mentality of "back in my day". I grew up in a time where everything was physical media, and that's the way I like it and the way I want it to stay. It's sort why I still do music CDs, would rather watch cable than sub to a streaming service, would rather go to a brick & mortar than shop online, would rather call someone than text, dine-in instead of ordering delivery, prefer smaller vehicles over big SUVs. I'm finding that I don't adapt well to our changing norms. The way things were in 1998, or even 2005, is the way that is just normal to me, and in most cases I'll resist changing for changing sake. I think things were kinda good back then, and I can't grapple with the idea that everything I knew needs to change, ya know?
I'm gonna comment before finishing the video. Even though I'm gonna watch the whole thing. I don't have room for collecting yet. But if I did. Id do it for my own reasons alone. And good reason. Goes for collecting anything. And I also collect old retro things mostly too. Not just games. Even though it's not a huge collection, it means something to me. If it means something to you it can't possibly ruin your life. These are great kinds of videos keep it up
It certainly does take up a lot of room when you get really deep into it. Thanks for watching man and good luck with your collecting journey. I like these types of videos too!
You brought up what I would say about "holding" something physical you can sort of time travel back to those days and remember. The thing is though you can do that like you said without owning it. Or you grab the games that really mean alot to you that you and your buddies played back then like metal gear solid, or whatever else. I can pickup just about any older game and recall who I was playing it with and if it was rented or owned back then. I get all that but thats sorta the 50/50 of why people collect. Usually get the stuff like that , people buy the games that means alot to them. Then others are just chasing the dragon of buying stuff/emotions. But as we've discussed thats what alot of this is, emotions, nostalgia, dopamine etc etc and its sometimes exploited because people know not everyone is stable or can control themselves that well when it comes to emotions.
glad you brought up duckstation. I was HELLA impressed when I set it up and used some guys upscaling settings. I play on my nvidia sheld TV on a 50inch HDTV. It does not disappoint the games dont feel aged and the thought of "OMG we use to enjoy this and think this was high tech back then". They actually look better then the old system on a CRT. Plus no load times.
@@steviefreakinc did you lookup settings online. I should give you mine... People always throw shade on emulation OH ITS NOT THE SAME, uhhh yeah with duckstation ITS NOT THE SAME... ITS BETTER!
I am picky about what I buy. I picked up Dragon Quest for my Tandy Vision One. I am waiting for Piopow for NES in the mail and Dragonyhm for Gameboy Color. I recently bought Sam's Journey for Famicom and the Digital Version of Mischief Castle for NES. I really want the Chromatic from Mod Retro. Looks great to me.
I love game collecting. But game collecting is nothing without the hardware to play it on. Besides FPGA clone consoles, which are also amazing. The original hardware of these older machines are really fascinating. The PS2's Emotion Engine, the Genesis/Megadrive's Motorola 68000 CPU, the Xbox's Pentium 3, Nintendo's 6502 based processor. Something about earlier hardware was a lot more interesting than today. And I love the start up of the PS2. Pretty much all of the consoles and Handheld PC's today are AMD PC's, with their AMD APU's, and the Nintendo Switch is essentially a repackaged Nvidia Shield. Back in the day you had exotic hardware that was for the most part very different to your traditional Computer. You won't likely see something like the PS3's Cell Processor with developers pulling magic tricks out of games when working with such different hardware. It's crazy to think that games like Last of Us, MGS V, GTA V, Destiny even ran on the PS3 which had less than a half of Gigabyte ram to work with, vs 8GB of ram a generation after. Now consoles are essentially PC's, just make the game on PC, water it down and port it over to consoles but it makes game development a lot easier. I still like physical copies, but it's not quite the same anymore with game installs, DRM and updates. It's just like what PC Gaming was back in the day when it still had physical games. I think today the PC is the way to go. It's where you get the full experience of being able to turn up the settings. And I still have a bunch of classics to enjoy on Steam.
@steviefreakinc Agree, innovative hardware along with innovative games aren't as much of a thing anymore. It's risky business. They can just go to AMD and continue to use their all in one APU's and then there are the games where going Live Service is unfortunately making the most sense, or building games off of existing engines like Unreal Engine 5. I don't think it will be the same anymore, even triple a games aren't as much of a thing as they were with prior generations with huge budget games. But what I love about this generation is there is already a nice backlog of games to enjoy with next gen upgrades like higher FPS, faster load times, higher resolutions along with Ray Tracing.
As a kid around 10 I would go around the trailer park and cut grass with a push mower just to go rent a snes for 10 bucks over the weekend. The rental stores made bank off me. 😂
I collect physical games, but not to evoke memories. I'm in my 60's, so my youth was well before video games even existed, let alone became mass market.
I was a PC guy almost all my life and everything there is digital for a decade. But I started my ps4 disk collection, my first console last year and somehow it is ruined my life 😂 It became a sort of addiction to me. But probably it's better than alcohol or drugs, I mean it's much better addiction. This passion to collect let me do not think about the awful situation in my country (I live in Siberia), you know war with Ukraine, which is terrible and literally ruined my life and my mental health. So my new passion in games is sorta help me. Probably I should let it "ruin" my life further. Thank for your video.
I have found that I collect for sentimental and nostalgic reasons. That's why I don't buy just any game, it has to be something that either I have had and enjoyed or never got the chance to buy but wanted.
When it comes to game collecting for me i mainly collect games that I play or always wanted to play/will play. Most digital games I have are ones that were on sale or aren't on physical media & a good chunk of those digital games i have are hd/remasters or the classic ps1 games that you can buy on PS5/PS4 without having PS Plus Premium
The primary reason why I love physical games is being able to find them at Target, Best Buy, Gamestop, amazon, etc. Whenever I buy a game on PC, I just feel like I am giving money for allowance (same thing with gamepass).
If you buy on steam, you might as well say you own it. Even if they delist a game you can still play it. Gamepass is way different than that. And like 90% of games are pirated and archived so I think digital is fine. Never understood physical collector’s obsession with ownership. “Things you own end up owning you”
I really want somebody like Linus tech tips to make a video on how to take your steam purchases and download all of those files onto your own hard drive and play them on a different launcher that doesn’t require any Internet. For example, the MIG switch loader for the Nintendo switch.
@ i know right like i am going to be commenting this on his stuff until i see a video for it this needs to be done to protect consumers rights, since technically Steam has a monopoly on the gaming space at the moment. I just hope we get some tech savvy senators and government officials that see these companies are stealing and locking our purchases behind terms of service agreements and bogus practices. We should have rights to store our purchases on our own home devices for our children and future generations to enjoy.
I think as long you doing it smart with games that you really like and really want to play, 100% at some point, you can´´t go wrong. And you can get some money back in future... in some cases even a bit more. Digitally your money is 100% gone. maybe it is good to have some minimalism weeks to come down and play stuff that you own. Only buy day one if you want to suppprt your favorite games and otherwise buy it later. Price drops are huge, especially with physical games.
Yea, dude! Seeing it in person and connecting it to the past is what it's all about! So many people wasting their money on mid games like Kuon makes no sense.
I completely agree along with my wrestling collection. I have a pretty extensive video game collection 32 different consoles so many different games and I can definitely relate to the fact that having these original copies connect me to those easier times before the world went to shit so I don’t think it’s cheesy at all. It reminds my brain that I was there and I can go back there anytime I want Not gonna lie got kind of emotional.
I got similar reason why I keep only two ps1 games in my collection as it reminds me of when my brother got it got me back in 1999 and it was my favorite game. Now I bought Tomba on the ps5 and even got the collectors edition for the switch. Will never sell them.
Nostalgia for me, when times seemed easier and better. I prefer physical. The memories of playing with family and friends. I don't go out and collect randomly, I get ones we had through the years primarily. However there are times, when friends are like "Give me so and so and you can have this stack of games". That and to me, it seems there is a lot of cluster in gaming today for me.
I tend to wait for a physical release of a game when you know they put it out digitally and then months down the line it comes out physical, it's worth the wait in my opinion
@@steviefreakinc I did that too with the marvel vs. capcom collection, man what a amazing collection of total classics from the 90s. It really brings me back to those arcade days
If you like it an collect it that's all that's important, as long as you don't break the bank for it little at a time, the key to collecting is honestly Patience
It’s not the games you miss it’s the memories they induce.
I have found a sort of cheap therapy in beating games from my youth that I either gave up on, or couldn't afford/didn't know about
It's Both! 😊
Cheap? where are you finding these retro games, cause my therapy games are costing hundreds of dollars 😅
I strongly disagree, been playing PS1 and PS2 games latelly and i enjoy it a lot. You will get surprise how good games used to be in certain aspect, not saying all modern games are bad but a lot of thing were allow/common back then that are rarely see today.
The real collection are the memories we made along the way
Theres a strong sense of association with Pokémon cards and what i felt when i first saw a particular art.
Its been super eye opening to see your new awareness.
I dig this uncut, authentic take on videos, also dude 🤘
Dude I’m addicted to Pokemon cards too. Lol the art these days is insane
Still have all my games from 90s that got at launch. I still talk with my buddies who I played with back then and memories. So much memories
That’s awesome man. That era of gaming was peak
Sometimes having the ability to play is all a person needs to be happy. And that’s totally okay 😊
Same here , I enjoy organizing them and once a week on my day off I pull a random game and play for a couple of hours and have a blast
The points you mention are exactly why i collect physical media. Beating Ducktales for NES every day after school and my mom watching me play the game. I remember beating that game , I think .
I have a similar story about my dad and Paper Mario 64. I still have the same cartridge from when I was a kid.
He died in 2019, and that cartridge always brings back such happy memories for me.
😢
Dino Crisis 2 in the thumbnail 🔥 such a underrated classic
I love that game. I never played Dino Crisis 3 but I hear it’s mediocre.
Collecting is like a museum for us- belonging to history as a caretaker situation.
Our own personal museums
You hit the nail on the head. When people ask why I collect I just reply, «it’s just for fun», but if I were to ever answer on a deeper level it would be exactly like you said it. Thanks for the upload.
i imagine every viewer of this video just nodding their heads in agreement. thanks for sharing steve!
Thank you for watching and commenting. 💪
I have memories playing goldeneye with my grandpa. I may never play through the whole game again but I play a few levels here and there to take me back
The Facility and Boat Level will always be my jam
The story mode was great, but that multiplayer mode with all four N64 controllers was also as fun. My brother and I thought it felt the same as Syphon Filter 2, had the same splitscreen multiplayer but only for two players.
@@tradnux5848 I'm glad they finally ported it to modern consoles
After playing my kids old PS3 for the first time at the age of 62 (retired ) and having a blast, I started collecting physical PS3 games, and have nearly 300 now. I have more games that I will ever play for the rest of my life. If you enjoy the hunt, the accumulation, do it. Nobody bashes coin, stamp, bottle, spoon, ect collectors. Do what makes you happy.
Good point! What games for ps3 have became your favorite?
@steviefreakinc Infamous, Resistance 2, and currently playing Dead Space. I play that one with the light on, not because it's creepy, but because I can see the controls better 😉
@ Resistance needs a comeback
Collecting to me is about the appeal as art it provides in a space, the ability to bring about positive nostalgia, its return of investment over time and its ability to have value to others in the same way as it does for myself. I think as a man it is a good feeling to physically own something that has value to others.
To me, it's mostly just me recollecting games I used to have that I enjoy. But I've made some purchases on things I want to try out as well.
Having a smaller list means you’ll have more time to thoroughly enjoy the games :)
I think what I’m gonna do for my backlog is pick a system and play only those games. To help shrink the backlog list
@ helpful. Thanks 😊
Nostalgia is the strongest drug in the world. Can make us all do silly things
Picking Metal Sear Solid was an odd choice because there's no way I would want to play the Psycho Mantis fight without Memory Cards or a Controller that vibrates😅
For me, collecting is about preservation, we don't know if emulation will always be available for every game we want
That's a good point that I didn't think of. I reckon that segment would be shortened on emulation.
Passing it on to kids is awesome. We lay the foundation for the new generation
Thank You sir! I’m honored :)
I totally agree. The nostalgia of the good old days! When we had no responsibilities and stress. Good video bro!
I mean hey, whatever way we gotta play. We gotta do it lol no judgement here
Hello.
Nice video and excellent analysis about collecting.
Thanks bud! :)
One of the best why collect videos ive seen, just real and honest.
I’m right there with you. Some games are just locked into memory. Adding to your point. My 4 year old just discovered the greatness of TNMT. I own the original NES games me and my brother played, but also love playing those same games on Xbox One now. Keep up the great content.
I lost everything in a house fire when I was 12, so I've made it my life's mission to reclaim all the games I once had. That's one reason I collect.
Damn man that is rough to deal with at 12 years old. Rough to deal with in general but certainly shitty as a kid. The recovery of the childhood collection is a passion project for many. I would imagine by now you’ve probably surpassed what you had mostly though 💪
@steviefreakinc far and beyond what I used to have. The biggest hurdle was games that became very expensive, like Megaman X3.
@ exactly! It just isn’t the same
I agree, that's how I feel about being a CIB collector.
100% spot on, when I seen you pull up that Gran Turismo 2 it made me think about playing the PS1 with my bro back in the day - those where good times.
GT2 has given me a lot of core memories as well!
Totally agree
Awsome video and right to the point 👍
Thank you Dennis!
Heckin Steve has made it to where other TH-camrs love him! Sir! You’ve reached Legendary status at this point! Lol
Thank you lol it’s something I didn’t see happening a few months ago 😂
In my opinion my favorite years of gaming was 2007-2010 so I feel ya on 360 nostalgia big broski
What’s up Heckin
Looking at getting into the collection scene. Thanks for the advice
Glad to help! One thing I’d definitely recommend is sticking to a budget.
You are right about that. I’d like to think I’ll play all of my games and I try really hard but it doesn’t always work out. But I’m trying
@steviefreakinc That's awesome! I definitely want to get some vintage joes in my collection, a lot of them are pretty pricey though
@ You ain’t lying. And from what I’ve observed is a lot of those accessories and weapons are easily misplaced
I had a couple of friends like that. That's when I realized how poor my family was lol
There’s no denying the difference between having a digital library and a physical one. There’s a special magic to having stuff from our childhood
I wonder in 20 years if kids will feel nostalgic for old digital libraries they have on past consoles lol
I stumbled across your channel today and I’m glad I did I enjoy your content I just have to subscribe to your channel. Keep making awesome videos bro.
Thanks man. I'm glad to have you. Welcome to the channel!
Agree with the reason for collecting the games, and to add to this, it's damn good fun hunting for the ones you forget about and only remember as and when you come across them. A great and enjoyable hobby 😎👍
That is also true. I get excited when I see a game I forgot about and it’s complete too!
well said steve! i recently got a cheap ps2 slim bundle on marketplace. but i still emulate all ps2 games on my modded ps4. they run and look so much better. same with ps1 games.
Hell yeah man! Better gameplay experiences can help you appreciate more about the game than we did in the past on native hardware.
i Feel at peace when playing games, and collecting games is one of my biggest joys in life
i Don't know where i would be without them... I have played games all my life, And will for the rest of my life, Nothing brings me happines more than gaming 😊
Gaming has brought me a lot of friendships in real life and online. Gaming is a foundation
Well said Bossman!
I keep telling my kids make sure you enjoy these times right now. With the only responsibility being school. I went to a local rental store and I remember when TMNT the arcade game came out for NES. I had to rent it for the first few weeks because they were near impossible to buy in store.
I usually had the opposite experience. Couldn’t rent it but it was available to buy lol
yup i remember that, not every store had the same games either on the rack like today you go into 10 stores they all have every game, back then theyd have the main few games that were new then it was random AF what they had.
That really was a good title for a video. Either way, I’m happy to have you here watching bud!
Steve, I like your content. Great channel here.
You change my life everyday keep it up
I’m honored to help man. Thank you
This video was well made congrats
Thanks Aaron 💪
Another reason why I collect physical still to this day is because of my uncle that passed away In 2020 and he was the reason why I loved playing video games and i still have his whole collection put up and on top of that I lost my fiance in a car wreck in 2022 and we went to GameStop to buy games a lot and pokemon cards because it was something we both enjoyed doing I also have her collection put up as well 😢
Video games and pokemon why haven't I found your channel until now !
Also physical I buy only when it has an physical option & I buy digital when there's like only a digital version and has to be indies
But for the most part I'm primarily physical if it's available
I hate digital Sony couldn't get my account back that was hacked back in 2018 so I went all the way back to physical this Gen
For me physical has always been in my life and recently I started back collecting switch games and it's amazing you can play without installing the games... well most of them and if you have an SD card the games that do require you to download something from the switch store it is completely playable offline as long as you have the game & the other parts on the system!
Great Channel! Greetings from germany!
Welcome to the channel bud!
Hey, bro! Sticky Goose just released a video about collecting that was inspired by your video. It was really good.
Thanks for letting me know. I just checked it out and he did a fantastic job. Thank you bro!
That is where I come from, This channel is pretty cool I post a few games on my channel also nothing like this channel lol
@ lol thanks for checking out my channel bro!
Definitely don’t sell!
@ I did it in the past so definitely won’t do it again. Thank you for the support.
"I don't have room for it" with 5 kids I don't either but I MAKE Room.. Who doesn't have a corner
to place a bookshelf in....
Hollywood video that takes me back on renting video games, I remember when movie gallery put them out of business where I live.
We had the opposite here lol. The order of Rental Store death was Shows to Go, Movie Gallery, Block Buster, Hollywood Video and then Family Video RIP to the rental stores.
I don't collect games. But you seemed like just a genuine dude in that previous video which is why I think it was a hit. Regards from Aus
Thanks dude and thanks for watching even if you don’t collect. What hobbies do you have?
@@steviefreakinc Sports memorabilia guy myself, but some of the best "collection" vids come from the game community. We all have the same disease pretty much anyway
@ I have a wrestling collection too.
Just subbed! Really love your channel man
I'm on a similar page.
Duck station is definitely amazing
@@steviefreakinc did you lookup settings online. I should give you mine...
People always throw shade on emulation OH ITS NOT THE SAME, uhhh yeah with duckstation ITS NOT THE SAME... ITS BETTER!
Very well done video congrats
I am picky about what I buy. I picked up Dragon Quest for my Tandy Vision One. I am waiting for Piopow for NES in the mail and Dragonyhm for Gameboy Color. I recently bought Sam's Journey for Famicom and the Digital Version of Mischief Castle for NES. I really want the Chromatic from Mod Retro. Looks great to me.
I don’t think I’ve heard of any of those except Dragon Quest obviously. Those must be games from the UK
They all believe in fast money these days so unfortunately we will never see innovation like we did with the PS3 and PS2 hardware again
Hell yeah lol. I totally forgot about renting consoles.
9:40 less editing, more warm, soulful atmosphere
Noted! Thanks
I collect physical games, but not to evoke memories.
I'm in my 60's, so my youth was well before video games even existed, let alone became mass market.
You’ve seen the ups and downs of all gaming. My good sir I admire you for that.
I video game collect because of the nostalgia and there are games I never can afford as a kid as well
That’s a good reason too!
I love these conversation videos
Thanks Jorge. I’m planning to do more content like this as well as some of my traditional content
Me too
When it comes to game collecting for me i mainly collect games that I play or always wanted to play/will play. Most digital games I have are ones that were on sale or aren't on physical media & a good chunk of those digital games i have are hd/remasters or the classic ps1 games that you can buy on PS5/PS4 without having PS Plus Premium
I mostly buy digital titles when they’re super cheap too. That’s the best way to collect games you’re unsure on.
“Things you own end up owning you”
I remember when video games were video games.... not like today where everything needs to be realistic.
Realistic and profitable for months or years
PS1 games are great, people love them for nostalgia. Keep doing you, collecting is important because one day these games won't exist to buy.
Hoping one day the game companies provide extensive libraries of old games on their subscription services
Yea. I still only buy physical because I just like going into whatever store and getting the games, like I barely even order games to get shipped 😅
It's about the journey, not the destination! lol
I really want somebody like Linus tech tips to make a video on how to take your steam purchases and download all of those files onto your own hard drive and play them on a different launcher that doesn’t require any Internet. For example, the MIG switch loader for the Nintendo switch.
That would be neat. I’m surprised they haven’t done a video like that already
Ours was called latest and greatest video❤i remember heb had video central to rent vhs😅😂
Rental stores were awesome. I miss them
The place where I used to rent video games from is now a weed shop 😂
lol damn
I completely agree along with my wrestling collection. I have a pretty extensive video game collection 32 different consoles so many different games and I can definitely relate to the fact that having these original copies connect me to those easier times before the world went to shit so I don’t think it’s cheesy at all. It reminds my brain that I was there and I can go back there anytime I want Not gonna lie got kind of emotional.
It makes me emotional too sometimes. No shame in it
I got similar reason why I keep only two ps1 games in my collection as it reminds me of when my brother got it got me back in 1999 and it was my favorite game. Now I bought Tomba on the ps5 and even got the collectors edition for the switch. Will never sell them.
What are the two PS1 games. Tomba and?
@steviefreakinc and Tomba 2 😂
Well said.
Thanks :)
I did wait for Marvel Vs Capcom fighting for Switch. Worth it!
@@steviefreakinc I did that too with the marvel vs. capcom collection, man what a amazing collection of total classics from the 90s. It really brings me back to those arcade days
@ I hadn’t played Punisher before but I completed it on the collection. Didn’t take long but it was fun
If you like it an collect it that's all that's important, as long as you don't break the bank for it little at a time, the key to collecting is honestly Patience
I am becoming inhumanely parasocial with you because of this new format
That’s good I hope lol
I just saw a CE Indiana Jones on Xbox Series. They got all the toys and knickknack on it. Then came the steelcase. Inside, it's a freaken CODE.
Some of the physical games I own are more special to me now becuase they were received as gifts from people that are no longer here
