I was there that day. Crazy game from start to finish. By far and away the best two teams in the comp that year. Absolute travesty that neither went on to win the premiership that year
Yes, back when there was sandhills. I was at this game and spent a lot of my youth in the sandhills. It's all gone now, used to build Sydney. They mine below the water table now and when you fly over it's a big lake. One day we'll will have a cyclone and Kurnell will become an island when a storm surge seas the ocean break through to Botany Bay. I took stills from this video and sent them on to my very elderly father and brother. 👍
What was funny we were sitting behind the posts at the bay end of the ground. We thought both players had copped a head high. First time I have ever seen the footage
@@joelmonkley6177Sadly it wouldn't have mattered. Hartley the ref was paid off. It was Arko's team they were up against in Manly. Just before full time there was a scrum feed to Manly right in front of their goal line and it was fed into the 2nd row. Greg Pierce complained and Hartly responded 'You wouldn't want to win a Grand Final off a penalty' and the rest is history. Roy Masters did a speaking dinner at North Cronulla a few months later and opened by saying 'Hartley's a cheat and Cronulla were robbed. Let's get that out of the way before you ask.'
@@coolhand1964 yes Ive heard of similar stories same as the police force mate in the 70s they allowed some heavies to do a bit of killing and maiming they turned a blind eye as well as back handers wild times in Sydney I was living in manly in the mid 70s but always liked the sharks
@@joelmonkley6177 Oh well, at least in the 70's there wasn't the street crime, or disrespect towards everyone that exists today. We could walk the street anytime without fear of being robbed, our car being broken into or stolen. Most Police were fair dinkum and did their job well. Not like the lazy ones you meet today who spend their time looking for reasons to get out of the job that their paid to do, full of their own importance and how good they look on social media. Who refuse to investigate anything unless you personally filmed the incident, because they don't know how.
@@Yeviscount Yeah right. Even Manly supporters who were there knew Foster had scored that try. You should not have even been in the Grand Final that year. You had a shit team that got looked after.
@@glenchapman3899 yeah gee we we're shit. 2 replays John Gray sent off when we were trailing 11-2 against Parra ( how's that for a biased Greg Hartley) injuries all over the place. Ever thought that maybe, just maybe, Manly got some decent calls because they concentrated on playing football rather than being grubs.

The Mighty Magpies Amco Cup winners in 1977 and 1978 Minor Premiers, this one had Les Boyd at his very best. Great Memories
I hope Steve Kneen bought himself a lottery ticket after getting away with that shot on Geoff Foster.
2 for the price of 1 and perfectly in sync :D
When Cronulla played wests in the 70s. It was a tense rivalry. It was surfies v westies. Back in the day fairdinkum.
Manly and west's games were better
RIP Steve Rogers (1954-2006).
You would get 20 years for that elbow now
The double elbow Off the turnbuckle:: Dane got marched & SK stays on 😊, Both accidental
You could still see the sandhills over the back.

Wests were the better side, they had the crowd, the ref and even Rex against them. Minor Premiers unlucky not to play in and win the grand final
Your kidding. Dirtiest team ever.
@@Yeviscount That would be St George. 😅
Yeah. If they concentrated on footy rather than being dirty they may have won. Oh well..Manly 4 ever🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
