I was at this game. Rod Reddy was so destructive in the first half. In today's game, he would have been sent off in the first 15 minutes of the match. I was supporting St George. It was a memorable match.
Love these old games ( especially when the Dragons win) I can barely watch the modern game these days...so formulaic and predictable. It's incredible what a difference to the game a competitive scrum makes.
@triple5762 I agree, the modern game lacks something. In regards to skills, modern players have different boots, manicured playing surfaces and a ball made to grip easily in one hand, unlike the old leather footy, which became a sodden weight when it rained. Also, being fully professional, they have the time to hone their skills. Theyre impressive though;!
Backbin the day when you didnt have to go through an academy to play first grade, where you could go to the pub and not have your drunken self splashed across social media, where you could play your own stule and not have to follow the script.
First rugby league game I saw, 7 years old. Still remember the result.

I was in the Churchill stand and again for the replay
Knew a few players who played against Reddy. They reckon he was the dirtiest player in the game. Eye gouges and scratching were his specialty.
I played pres cup for manly and rod reddy was our coach. Good bloke
It's good to be reminded that St George was once a great club.
😂
St George used to get some of the flukiest tries and some of the ( shall we say) luckiest refereeing decisions. I hated St George with a passion.
@@Yeviscount Greatest club EVER ,, more Grand final win's than ANY other club
@@tilapiadave3234 I think South's might have something to say about that.
@@Yeviscount And you would be very wrong ,,, Want a bet ? You name the amount :)
Back when scrums meant something in League.
As a Saints and Ford fan and only 15 years old,
for me, 77 was a good year.

Modern players have much greater skills, but the game itself is nowhere near the spectacle it used to be., for some reason.

Knew a few Manly players. All of them had the same thing to say about Rod Reddy. Cat.
Once again the Dragons and the eels play off in a Grand final this time with a result
Good content :)
