Justin, I'm an old man. I used to watch Duane Allman play live when the Allman brothers were just starting out. You are going to be another Duane Allman. You got the touch of one of the greats. Keep going son. I love your videos. I wish you luck. Just never drive a motor cycle!
Justin Johnson ESPECIALLY the motorcycle thing. Working on an ambulance, we called them 'murdercycles'!! And don't fly on anything smaller than a 747, unless it's like a G-5 or something, heh heh heh!!! You're gonna be real big, young man!!!
This is just ridiculous. His playing, his groove, his style is all so ridiculous. Ridiculously amazing. Everything you want from a delta blues guitar is right here, you don't need to look any further. Inspiring. There are a lot of guitar players out there, on the radio, live, and on YT. This guy inspires me like few others. Just amazing.
Folks, I think that we found "The Magic Man with Magic Hands"! What an amazing talent! Keep the faith and keep fighting the good fight my friend! (I love the sound of the rain in the background) God bless and take care...
We drove for hours back from the Wizard's workshop in Bendigo, Aust, through the dark listening to the haunting sounds of Smoke and Mirrors. Just sort of floated across the countryside and lost track of time. Will go back and check through this song again. Generously giving it away as usual, thanks Justin.
I'm happily on both sides of this dilemma, I've paid thousands of dollars for some instruments, and I've paid 15 bucks for spare parts, cigar box, tension instruments, he'll I've played a tide box guitar. Justin Johnson is an inspiration.
Thank you for breaking down the tuning style. And that guitar......so much love built that. You have made a good life for yourself. Stay floating man!!
Wow! And I mean WOW!!! I came across your channel last year...and I just want to thank you so very much for your love and super talent from bloodlines that just make my heart shine. I'm an artist and used to play guitar- trying to start up again, and you are so kind as well as learned.
A Facebook link redirected me here, I don't know how and why, but this guy is a genius! I know nothing about guitar playing, but watched with interest all 11 minutes of it. A guitar from a washtub? Gimme a break! And he plays perfect music out of it! Keep going strong, Justin Johnson, people like you make the World colorful and fun! :)
stick to cars dude, this isn't hard stuff. when he starts writing original blues tunes with feeling and emotion in them then he's done it, until then he's just taking peoples money for novelty crap like oilcan guitars and shovel slide bass/guitar things. he's just ripping off black dudes like all the other white guys have mostly. a band like Clutch is writing blues music and playing shows to people, reaching them musically. this guy is impressing car dudes who can't play an instrument. big difference lol this guy can play music, get back to me when he writes some songs. in another video he had like 5 wristbands on, 10 rings, long girly hair and a thin ass frame trying to impersonate Stevie lol. can't really fake the blues when you've never worked hard, never suffered. can this dude even overhead press an empty olympic bar? bench his own bodyweight? Stevie was a beast cuz he lived life, he didn't just rip off/emulate people like this guy all you faggots being wowed by this guys novelty crap are just paying for him to smoke dope in a "gypsy van" let's be honest here. he can fingerpick well lol
All I can say is that your one heck of a Talent, and i love every sound that comes out of your Guitars, Jeez i could listen to you play all day long, !!!
Wow, Justin. I love the sound of this unique instrument, but, of course, without you and your skill and talent, it would just a guitar. I truly enjoy listening to you play and admire your humility. I’m Southern and the blues sounds like home to me. So, thank you for entertaining me daily. Much love and success to you. Keep on playing and growing and learning (and teaching) new things. I’m not flirting - I’m being maternal. I’m a 73 yr old grandmother from South Carolina and all my daddy’s family made music for their country neighbors and played instruments, mostly bluegrass back then. so i can’t imagine a world without music.
Justin, luv your simplified blues, your tunings and feel are solid gold.im a lover of blues and enjoy celtic blues too but those old poor black bluesmen are being remembered by you and other bluesmen keeping it alive for the younger generations.
Who are the 73 jackasses who disliked this vid? Are there like a bunch of dislike robots out there? Justin, I'm so glad to finally hear your voice after so many views of your musical talents. Thanks man! You are an American icon. And a very talented person.
Justin; You have explained a world of questions for me!!!! It would baffle me no end how a bluesman could get such insane riffs on a standard tuned guitar. Thanks for the lesson!!!! John B. Shaw
Guitar crack! Love what you're doing and putting out there. I've been a fan of the Blues for a long time and just started learning the guitar after a 44 year absence! The good Rev and yourself did justice to the song and I kept trying to figure out where..... R.L Burnside! Its on a blues documentary You See Me Laughin': the last of the hill country bluesmen (2002) at the 1:13:21 mark. Thanks for putting yourself out there Justin. Inspiring is such an understatement
It's now autumn 2022, and I just got around to listening to this video. No regrets! Unusual but impressive guitar, Justin's mastery, a mini-lesson, and the sound of the rain in the background. Raining here also right now, much needed! (Oxford, MS)
One is left wondering why guitars have been made to a formula for so long. The more I watch of your amazing playing and incredible contraptions the more it intrigues me. What next a washboard guitar built into a tea chest? Love the sound of it with both pickups. I just wish I had a teaspoon of your talent. Great stuff.
Patrick Bertlein We can't all be great at everything that's for sure. As you say there is something to be said for hard work and practice but you can't practice talent. You've either got it or you don't and my talents lye elsewhere. :)
Have you ever heard a great musician say "I was born with it"? Think they all are liars or just don't understand what you understand? Nah. What you see and hear that makes them good is really all that you haven't seen---them practice til they bleed.
Not too long ago, the southern folks didn't have chit. They made do with what ever they could put together. Couldn't afford guitar, build one in the barn. Couldn't afford liquor, build some in the barn. Just how it was,,,, still is to a point.
Justin, that really does sound nice. You can easily hear the two together, acoustic and electric... I still remember the first time I heard Delta Blues being played. I was about 28 years old... driving at night towards S.AL. that's all that was playing on the radio and it was fantastic. Slide and Steel guitar... it was amazing. Made it a magical night. Thanks.
One of the most badass coolest musicians I’ve ever seen in my 40 years! Hats off to you brother
Agree 100%. Justin Johnson is the real deal.
If nothing else this man is an inspiration. I do miss having a guitar.
David I do regret never learning to play a guitar and as a very senior citizen, I'm too old now. And, looking at him, I miss having hair.
Good Lord, that sounds incredible.
Justin, I'm an old man. I used to watch Duane Allman play live when the Allman brothers were just starting out. You are going to be another Duane Allman. You got the touch of one of the greats. Keep going son. I love your videos. I wish you luck. Just never drive a motor cycle!
Especially if you have a famous English Blues guitarist EC or American blues man DB who is very jealous of you.
I completely agree except for one thing: anyone who plays shovels and wash tubs deserves a really great motorcycle.
I can see that ya.
Justin Johnson ESPECIALLY the motorcycle thing. Working on an ambulance, we called them 'murdercycles'!! And don't fly on anything smaller than a 747, unless it's like a G-5 or something, heh heh heh!!! You're gonna be real big, young man!!!
Back,,,way back,the wealthy had 12 strings,the poor would play 2,or 3 of the 6 that they had.
if that ain’t a talent made in Heaven,then I’ll hush.God bless u mr Johnson,keep on playin brother.
Justin Johnson is a natural, on the guitar, infront of a camera and a cool intelligent teacher.
This was 6 years ago??!! How time flies.
9 years now lol
The sound of the rain, behind your awesome music is stunning !! THANX !!!
Justin is an unassuming master, happily sharing what so few can do well.
'Sounds about right' ..... yep that's every guitarist in the world tuning up. 👍
Oh man! That middle switch position tone!!! To DIE for!!!
Folks, I think that we found "The Magic Man with Magic Hands"! What an amazing talent!
Keep the faith and keep fighting the good fight my friend! (I love the sound of the rain in the background)
God bless and take care...

What a treasure this kid is.
The wonderful things that people can do when they put their mind to it.
Justiin Johnson the gem of the 21st century
Loved hearing the rain in the background. Don't get much of that here in SoCal. Guitar and rain, how bluesy and swampy. Thanks for the lesson.
DanielinLaTuna given up a lot in socal... fresh air, naturally occurring water, individual rights and liberty.. quite a list.
I think someone made a song about lack of rain in Southern California.
Thank you for breaking down the tuning style. And that guitar......so much love built that. You have made a good life for yourself. Stay floating man!!
LOVE YOUR PLAYING... YOUR AWESOME...
I just can't get enough of Justin Johnson
Wow! And I mean WOW!!! I came across your channel last year...and I just want to thank you so very much for your love and super talent from bloodlines that just make my heart shine. I'm an artist and used to play guitar- trying to start up again, and you are so kind as well as learned.
Always loved playing or rehearsing while raining.I feel it does something to the tone of the ROOM!
Kind of a comforting tone.
Justin always makes me say WOW
Pure Musical Genius.
R.L Burnside recorded that song, Wish I Was In Heaven Sittin' Down. Great song, thanks Justin.
Having grown up with the rains pitter patter, watching theguy with my moms wash tub, caught my attention
love his teaching so much here .
I love the cool dark, eerie sounds without it being sad. It is super cool and you have a great vibe. I dig this so much.
One needs to listen to all of his stuff: a most effective and moving oeuvre.
Justin Johnson is a phenomenal guitar artist.
Justin is very nice and great musician.🙏
probably gonna just play this for like the next 10 years now. Thanks for that.
Justin is special blues soul..great man!!!!!
Long Live swamp music, Justin you are truly the king of swamp music love you brother

You can buy them, just get into Justin's Web and order one.

When I grow up, I want to be this good. I'm 63, better get to work. Love that tuning!
I can watch and listen all day long!

I love watching you play. Thank you for all of the TH-cam videos!
Oh the slide playing and the tunning... what a pleasure to my ears! I am literally happy that I found you in TH-cam...
My favorite Justin Johnson video!
Great stuff Justin. Kudos to the guys at Delta Groove and thanks to you for sharing your talent and knowledge.
The Rain is Nice in the Back Ground... Sweet.
I love that sound man.

Can't stop watching and listening, it's like guitar voodoo! The music is amazing, but watching you is mesmerizing as well. More! And thank you!
Justin Johnson's not called The Wizard for no reason!
JUSTIN is JUST incredible! And the luthiers who work with him. Wow...
Mom, this is the guy who stall our bucket!
Justin, luv your simplified blues, your tunings and feel are solid gold.im a lover of blues and enjoy celtic blues too but those old poor black bluesmen are being remembered by you and other bluesmen keeping it alive for the younger generations.
Wow, what an amazing tone quality, your guitar maker certainly hit the mark. On that speciality crafted guitar con-grads 😇
No matter what I go on TH-cam to watch or hear, i ALWAYS end up watching Justin Johnson videos - EVERY goddamn time.
Justin, you are amazing! Your efforts for Americana 🎶🎶 is priceless. Keep it up.
You are a master! Sounds amazing.
God said "Shut off the rain. I want to hear this!"
And I thought the shovel guitar was cool... the sound on this is incredible, wow!
Awesome stuff. It's like having two 3 string guitars side by side.
Justin, I love your playing. A true bluesman.
that has to be ..the cleanest sounding electric..wow
Love your teaching man TY
Who are the 73 jackasses who disliked this vid? Are there like a bunch of dislike robots out there? Justin, I'm so glad to finally hear your voice after so many views of your musical talents. Thanks man! You are an American icon. And a very talented person.
My mouth is watering listening to that tone. Good Lord.
you have the coolest instruments
Great guitar ! Could be my next winter project. Sounds great. Love your videos.
That tone on the mini humbucker with the acoustics of the wash tub reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughan. that's pretty awesome.
A wash tub!!! OMG,THAT'S HYSTERICAL YET, INCREDIBLE!!! I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT!!! CRAZY COOL!!!!
I dont' know the numbers I just play the tune love this rendition
What dreams are made of. Awesome.
That thing sounds killer. And I love that song too. Thanks for this, brother!
Great stuff & what an awesome guitar! Cheers JJ.
He SPEAKS! :o
Only heard him talk with strings until now..
Damn, I wish I had hands like that..
Thank you Justin...Its a beautiful piece my friend.
no better way to spend a rainy day than giving that ol 6 string a play
I like the sound of this guitar very much. To have such a crisp brightness while maintaining a solid base tone is quite a feat.
Fuzz FM you
THAT DADDAD SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!
Man, you make great music with what are basically, spare parts. Cheers to you.
Well Sir, in my 60s, this old dog finds it a great pleasure to learn new stuff, Thankyou very much, Jazz an blues guy, refreshin.
I’m new to your channel and have a strong love for blues/delta blues..I am digg’n you brother!
Great atmosphere great guiter sounds
I'm watching this vid for the first time, all I can say is WOW.... You should name it "The Tele-Tubby"... Telecaster Meets Wash Tub... lol🎸
I have used this tuning DADDAD since 1986. As well as Delta Blues, it works very well for Appalachian, Celtic and Olde English ballads.
Justin; You have explained a world of questions for me!!!! It would baffle me no end how a bluesman could get such insane riffs on a standard tuned guitar. Thanks for the lesson!!!!
John B. Shaw
Love your style Justin

One of Stephen Stills' favorite tunings :)
Man Justin you are so rad !! Thanks for sharing this! I am reborn again 🤣🤙
