I can't answer the question from Alex, but I can try to help him find an answer. I've only had a general interest in Bobby over the years (although I respect him tremendously), but the Yellowjackts have been my favorite band for some 20 years (had the honor of having them to my house for a crawfish boil!!!). A couple years ago (?) I read about Bobby McFerrin's "Bang! Zoom" album, with the jackets as his backup band. So I bought it. Now, maybe it's a personal taste thing, but for some reason I can't explain it has become one of my favorite albums I own. So I say check it out, and that might give more insight into some wonderful musicians/human beings that can make incredible music separately and together!
A amazing voice and wonderful's improvisations. Bobby is Definitely the best singer and improvisation. And the band.... excellent level. Excellent concert. Thank!
I think Bobby McF hurt Bob Mintzers feelings...for breakfast. He pales in comparison. You can see the competition in the pond...Mintzer aint the biggest fish....McFerrin is....sad/ embarrassing.
Wherever Bobby goes, it seems he becomes the center of the universe. He can sing, of course, but unlike most singers, he's an exceptional vocalist. He's more like a multi-instrumentalist, with tremendous musicality and virtuosity to express it.
please stop idolizing people, brother. Bobbie is extremely gifted an all, but so are you in many ways. He's just a human being same as anyone. Why don't you start idolizing the God (YHVH Elohim of Abraham, Issac and Jacob) who created you and Bobbie and the Universe? Why don't you idolize He who designed everything and anything you can and can't see, taste, touch, smell, and hear instead? Shalom! Much Love from Above.
My most favourite band, ever. I had more musical orgasms listening them over the years than all the rest put together. I wish I knew more bands that display such sensational creativity and interplay. I just love them
Wow----favorite group for decades now-----check 1.29 Bobby's acknowledgement of improvization of leaves falling on the keyboards -----really nice work here----Charlie G
Bobby McFerrin & the Yellowjackets Jazz in Marciac 2012, Line Up : - BOBBY McFERRIN - Vocals; - WILLIAM KENNEDY - Drums; - FELIX PASTORIOUS - Bass; - RUSSEL FERRANTE - Piano, Synthesizer and - BOB MINTZER - Tenor & Soprano Sax, Bass Clarinet, EWI.
Great concert...was going to comment on the "too busy" crew...but figured I'd leave it, except for this; there's a Bobby McFerrin album called Bang Zoom it was, like his debut a McFerrin with a band album, for that album the band was The Yellowjackets (with Jimmy Haslip occupying the bass chair). That was 1995, fast forward to this concert and you'll notice that Bobby McFerrin took the lead on Bobby McFerrin songs (the first being his fab interpretation of the Van Morrison's Moon Dance which opens this show). Apart from that, BM sat back and added some color to the Yellowjackets' tunes (except the 2nd encore which was left to the Jackets perform). So, I guess I lied as I did comment on the "too busy-ites" , and yes, you've a right to your own opinion, but I can't agree as the aforementioned is mine. Guess we'll leave it at that!
I love this bass man(Felix Pastorius)...oh..yes...when you learn from the older guys you could be something else.....love it...thanks to Jimmy Haslip for his blue print...
These are two of my all time favorite musical acts don't get me wrong, but Bobby and the Jackets together didn't gel too well. It was extremely busy at times, anyone else think this?
Alex Kweifio-Okai Spot on ....Bobby's ego does that sometimes ....not graciously wanting to work in a format , despite Jazz being a platform of improvisation..... the Jackets' demonstrate how this is harmoniously done. And its fine if its a well thought up and constructed solo ..... he's not great improviser as opposed to Russell and Bob ...even Jimmy for that matter . Well observed :)
Simply Amazing. You can’t ear often this level of harmony and perfect integration among artist that don’t play together for years (Pastorius and McFerrin). I love the Yellowjackets
Bobby is the picture of honesty. His modesty just challenges his ability to get better and better. Skills much needed today, honesty. See the future of cities www.tramwaypods.ca 6 min video.
+archie arch He must be, it's proven that there is no god or any gods and Israel is not Isreal ;-) it's a manufactured piece of aggression because of imaginary gods
Whats too busy? are we trying to put restraints on jazz??? I thought there were no rules. I'm tired of jazz snobery. If you're a musician - it seems that you have to be invited to the "club" before you're accepted in - how many stars are there that have been self tought, no certificates, with little or no credentials that have redifined music to our absolute bliss!?
That's the worst tone I've ever heard coming out of a bass since high school. That's 37 years ago. Nothing wrong with the playing, mind you, but the tone is killing me :-(
Felix is a killer bassist. As far as the tone is concerned, he's probably still trying to find his sound. I can't justify the companies pricing on those basses. The only way I will own a butterfly is if someone GIVES me one. LOL!
It's sounded like he had a sub harmonic effect on the lower 2 strings. The upper register sounded way too harsh. I have great respect for his playing/musicianship etc I just find the tone on this gig too harsh. He really needs to find a happy medium between what he does and having a fatter tone in my humble opinion. This is 3 years ago, so I would like to think that is now the case.
One of the best things have happened in recent times in music: McFerrin and Yellowjackets together!!!!
0:01 - Moondance
6:41 - Dewey (For Miles)
15:40 - Out of town
27:27 - Improvise
33:29 - Improvise?
39:27 - Kids' Toys
49:22 - speech
50:01 - Chicken
54:53 - Claire's Song
Loved how happy Ferrante seemed during this show!
I met Russel and Jimmy 90s...THE SPIN album....columbus ohio....Chic Corea followed them....I was Blew out....smh...
@@rogerringold616Wish I was there. I saw them 30yrs ago...young and vibrant.
I would paid anything to hear summer song live... what a perfect melody
ME TOO!!! I WOULD HAVE PAID EASY $10,000 to see it.
@@winstonsmith6204 same here
Yesss samee
Summer song is the best!
Me too!! How can it not be on the setlist??
Bobby's voice just gets better with age! What a
great addition to an instrumental group.
He was a local phenom weekends where I'd go hear jazz in SF
Still my favourite thing to watch and listen would be a dream to watch him live and the yellow jackets live ❤
...I rediscovered Mr. McFerrin and I love it...what a vocally talented individual...I love it.
This is so rad! I can't believe this happened! I feel like I can't even appreciate this one yet - Bobby, I'm coming for you! :D

Felix Pastorius really following in his father footsteps...blessings simply the best.
Listen to McFerrin's cd "BangZoom"; a brilliant collaboration with the Yellowjackets! It could possibly be The Yellowjackets best work!!!
On the electric bass Felix Pastorious, the son of legendary Jaco Pastorious. Son carries the same commanding voice on the instrument.
I’ve been pleasantly astonished!
I am starting to get into Pastorious, what a genius and such a tragic life. His dad had was genius, but what a drug addict he was.
He has hands/fancy fingerboard skills. Its hard to follow a icon Like Jaco or or any giant as a son /daughter.....in same genre
I think Bobby McF hurt Bob Mintzers feelings...for breakfast. He pales in comparison. You can see the competition in the pond...Mintzer aint the biggest fish....McFerrin is....sad/ embarrassing.
His other sons play bass too.

Sorry. The bass bass player is Felix Pastorious. Jaco's son.

Wow - so habe ich die YellowJackets noch nie gehört. Ganz anders als sonst. Sehr sehr gut!!! Die Musik lebt!!
I love this bass man(Felix Pastorius)...oh..yes...when you learn from the older guys you could be something else.....love it...thanks to Jimmy Haslip for his blue print...
Great !
So much better then the sum of parts: Mcferrin and Yellowjackets.
enorme !!
Man! Just realized on Moondance that Bobby mimics a trumpet.
These are two of my all time favorite musical acts don't get me wrong, but Bobby and the Jackets together didn't gel too well. It was extremely busy at times, anyone else think this?
nope
Possibly, in spots. But Bobby's phrasing on "Moondance" was unbelievable! And etc.... a lot of great stuff there!
Alex Kweifio-Okai He's hard to take sometimes. Great talent, but I am not a big fan. And yes….it gets busy.
+CaptainKarma1972 dont you think Bobby is a great improviser? why would that be? just curious. cheers
first one is moondance by van morrison, hardly recommend listening to version of nathan east! It's wonderful!
I would like to see them in Mexico

Is Russel Ferrante the keyboard Player? No guitar..Robben Ford ruined that for everyone that came after him.
sorry I heard the members... : (
Moondance? And the are reading it? What's up with that?
That's the worst tone I've ever heard coming out of a bass since high school. That's 37 years ago. Nothing wrong with the playing, mind you, but the tone is killing me :-(

This bass didn´t belong to him , he lost his bass in cab, as far as I know, this bass was lend to him He has a new 6 bass, with a killing sound now
Vinícius Selbach Thanks for the info - I certainly was surprised, since I know Felix is an excellent musician, who cares about the output.
I didnt mind his walking tone, but his solo tone was pretty rough
It's sounded like he had a sub harmonic effect on the lower 2 strings. The upper register sounded way too harsh.
