(most sane claim form chainsfr)
Yo-Kai watch?
holy fuck
I love how Yokai can range from "funny little guy" to "will kill you"
Just like certain animals
" The worst she can say is no..."
Well actually the worst she can do is turn into a legendary spider woman and wrap you in a cocoon! Or maybe a nine tail Fox.....😂😂😂
Nine tailed foxes aren't evil in japanese culture. Only Korean culture they are (Or by their Korean name is Kumiho's)
@@Zammiey thanks for letting me know!
Woo-hoo! Finally a yokai video. I was a huge nerd for Japanese history and folklore back during the pandemic, so I thought you'd like to hear of these too.
There are three specific yokai from the Heian period (794-1185) that were grouped together as the Three Great Yokai. They are a tengu (bird people), kitsune (fox) and oni (ogre/demon).
The first would be the kyuubi (nine tailed fox, like the Naruto one) Tamamo-no-Mae. What's especially interesting about this one is how her legend corresponds to other legends across asia (most famously Daji, the concubine of King Zhou in ancient China, as featured in the classic novel the Investiture of the Gods), so they are sometimes believed to be the same creature. Tamamo-no-Mae was a beautiful lady who became a concubine of Emperor Toba. Shortly after she became his consort, Emperor Toba became deathly ill. The physicians couldn't discern the cause of his sickness, so Abe no Seimei (or, in the historical narrative, Abe no Yasuchika, or Abe no Yasunori), the astrologer divined that she is the cause of the emperor's sickness, so she was chased and killed by the army. After she died, her spirit haunted a boulder and any creature that touched that boulder would die instantly. The rock was later destroyed by a monk.
Next we have the great tengu, Emperor Sutoku, who also belongs in the category of the Three Great Ghosts of the Heian period. This one's a sad story. He was born Prince Akihito, the first son of Emperor Toba (yes, the one in the Tamamo no Mae story). He was coronated Emperor Sutoku after his father retired, and that's when troubles started. A rumor went around that he wasn't actually Emperor Toba's son, but rather the son of Emperor Shirakawa (Toba's father). Toba hated Sutoku and when he got the chance, he forced him to leave the throne for the 3 year old Emperor Konoe. Emperor Konoe was sickly and passed tragically at the age of 17. Emperor Sutoku had a son, so he and his allies appealed to the court that he becomes the Emperor, but Toba and his allies decided that Toba's fourth son would become Emperor Go-Shirakawa. That led to a conflict known as the Hougen War, which ended in the victory of Emperor Go-Shirakawa's side. Sutoku was exiled and became a monk. Many years later, he copied some Buddhist scriptures and had them sent to the capital (then Kyoto) with good intentions. He was sadly, denied as they believed he cursed those scriptures. Emperor Sudoku died in exile 9 years later, and no funeral was held for him, considering him a criminal unworthy of being honored. After he died, he became a Tengu that cursed the nation that detested him-especially the capital-and the curse manifested in the early deaths of heirs, fires and earthquakes for many years to come.
The third and final member of the trio, and probably the most infamous, is Shuten-douji. Shuten-douji was a man-eating oni that terrorized the imperial capital during the 11th century (making him the oldest of the three). His origin stories vary from a drunken young monk to a handsome man cursed by a rejected lover. He eventually formed a gang with other oni on Mt. Ōe and terrorized the populace together. It got so troublesome that Abe no Seimei (the wizard and diviner) found that the cause of all missing persons was because an oni was eating them. The Imperial Court dispatched Minamoto no Yorimitsu and his Four Heavenly Kings to kill the oni. Shuten-douji was eventually defeated by Yorimitsu and Kintarou (who was insanely strong as the son of a thunder god and a Yamauba). The severed head of Shuten-douji kept biting even after his body was killed. They had to bury the head so that it doesn't hurt anyone.
Bro stop yappin
Bro wasn't kidding....
to escape kuchisake-onna you can simply say "so so" and it will confuse her long enough for you escape
You can do that but I also heard a version where you can say your in a relationship or married and that she would be embarrassed by asking the question. Problem with yokai stories ( and other stories too) is there is a lot that is similar but also has a twist detail some mention one thing that others don't
I think you can also give her candy, but that will only make her leave you alone for a bit
Can I say “Venus flytrap”
Absolutely gotta do a part 2, there are still so many yokai left to cover
Obaryon jumps on your back
You carry him for many many miles
You check your back
It’s a bag of money!

Banger content. This channel is gonna keep blowing up. Trust me bro
Thank you!!!
Now can you do a Latin American & Caribbean mythical creatures and cryptids? I also have a short ghost story experience my great grandfather apparently had with a Latin American cryptid: the cadejo.
Apparently, one night after excessive heavy drinking, at a party he wasn’t supposed to be at, my great grandfather supposedly encountered the white cadejo on his way back home, traveling afoot. In Latin American mythology, cadejos are these supernatural entities that have the appearance of a stray dog or wolf. There are two types of cadejos: black & white. Neither are exclusively good nor evil, with either one can defend and protect you or try to attack, maul, and kill you. However, in most encounters the white cadejo is morally “good” and the blacks ones are morally “evil”.
In this instance he encountered the white one, but it was not pleased and was somehow offended by his drunkenness, as well as for being adulterous. It was said that cadejos roamed the roads at the twilight of sunset and if you traveled by carriage or horse, you were good because they are sometimes scared of horses. But it’s a dangerously different story if you are traveling on foot, which my great grandfather was doing.
He left the party, around the witching hours, mesmerized, drunk, and reminiscing of the girls he fancied, even though, he was engaged at the time (shame on you Bisabuelito! 😡) and had only a torch and lantern to travel. He also wore a silver crucifix around his neck. Well, halfway through the journey, he heard hooves. He suspected it was his neighbor and became glad as he thought he got a free ride. He turned around shouting and greeting happily , only to be meet with stunning, ominous silence.
He quickly felt a cold shiver and began to pray with his silver cross. He then saw, in the distance, a pair of glowing, charcoal-yellow eyes beyond the rim of the torch’s light. He smiled and let his guard down, thinking it was a new companion, whistled to “the dog.” That was his mistake. It whistled back and gave a “human-like” grin. A ravenous smile. He then saw its hind legs. You see, cadejos do not posses the normal body of a dog. No sir, they are a type of “chimera” and can have horse, donkey, or deer hind legs. In Nicaragua, they have deer hooves and sometimes can have deer antlers too. This explained the galloping sounds my great grandfather heard.
He panicked and ran. The cadejo, chasing behind him. Closer. Closer. And closer. He prayed and prayed. He dropped his lantern and he only had his torch to defend himself, bur he dared not look back, for if one sees the eyes of a cadejo, they risk the chance of going insane or becoming possessed. He knew he wasn’t seeing things, for as he ran and saw his village getting nearer, he could hear and the dogs, horses, and barn animals being awakened, startled, and outraged. The knew him so there was no reason for them to react, but they sense whatever was chasing him.
He made it home, awakening the entire household and neighbors. They checked to see what happened. My grandfather was dumbstruck and was completely mute for weeks, suffering a lethal fever. It was said a black horse, a black mangy dog, as well as rats, manifested around the house, all of them trying to get inside. My great relatives had to get a priest and witch-doctor to chase them away. All suspected to be omens of pestilence and disease.
My great grandfather recovered, managed his alcoholism responsibly, stayed faithful, and never traveled alone at night or after sunset around certain areas.
PS: Death from _Puss in Boots: The Last Wish_ is based on the cadejo and it is the white one, not the black one. Also cadejo means “chain” in Spanish because they carry a heavy chain behind them, which makes a cacophonous, rattling noise to scare their victims.
Wow! Thank you for sharing!! Also thank you for your support of the channel ❤️
@@TrustMeBroOfficial No problem, Bro! You are more than welcome to share my story if you decide to make another mythology/cryptids video! Keep up the fantastic work!
Came across your channel yesterday, keep up the great work big dog.
Thank you bigger dog!!
Same!
Nuribotoke is also known as Biron, due to his dangling eyes. His origin story states that he wanted to "attain Buddhahood" (go to heaven) by chanting a special spell, "Biron Biron, Biroron", but he failed, and ended up as this Yokai instead. It is also said that salt can make a Nuribotoke go away.
Yooooo new video!!!
I have been following your videos since I got recommended your first one, I could not believe it was your first video! The time, effort, and dedication you give to each video makes me love watching it, keep up the great work 😁
Happy I found this channel! Very informative, as a huge fan of mythology thank you for making these videos! Any chance you would do one on different dragons?
Thank you!! Great idea
@@TrustMeBroOfficial no problem! Thanks for considering it!
I hope this is the start of a new series and great video as always bro🙌😀🤩
Perfect, exactly the video I wanted to see after watching your video where you mentioned Yokai first. Thanks for pointing me here, good sir! 🫶🏻
6:47 Chillest duck I've seen, Change my mind
There is also one japanese yokai called the Rokurokubi. Its basically a human , but at night it can elongate its neck and detach their head to roll around. you can go research the other info about it if you wanna use this yokai for another video.
W series, I would love to see more
Ooooh I love this topic! Ty bro :)
You’re very welcome!!
Fern here! I wanted to say some points involving japanese paranormals
Firstly is a mythical organ associated with the kappa-the Shirikodama-this organ is presented in the shape of a ball in Japanese folklore, believed to embody a human's soul and located in the... butt... so kappa just kinda "extract" it via a specific entrance of their victims
Another point I want to say before the next topic is that since a lot of Japanese people believe in the paranormal, there tends to be LOTS of urban legends even in modern times (mostly originating from a textboard knowk as 2channel) which is a genre quite separate from folklores, these ones are somewhat difficult to find for English speakers (such as Big Head-O, Yamanoke, Ninja Cats, or Murasaki Babaa), but common ones like Kisaragi Station, Monkey Train, Kunekune, or Aka Manto shown in the video should be easier to find.
Lastly I can confirm that the most dangerous place in all of Japan is the toilet. It for some reason acts like the hotspot for urban legends and youkai alike. Aka Manto, Hanako-san, Murasaki Babaa, Teke-teke (Kashima Reiko), Three-legged Rika-chan, Kurote, or sometimes even youkai races such as kanbari nyuudo, kamikiri, akaname or kappa.
Never trust bathrooms.
I cant tell you enough how much i like this guy this dudes voice is so relaxing hes so humble hes perfect in every way i like this guy so much

Can you do a video on Hachishaku-sama?
Please never stop uploading
I won’t!!
I'm never going in a public bathroom again after hearing that 😭 9:56
As long as you stay out the ladies room I think you good 😂😂
Japan does have some strange folklore
Can you do in the next episode add some more yokai? (ex. Kitsune)
the kappa bit had me on the floor
As a follower of Shinto, this'll be fun.
In your next video please include some creatures from Māori/Polynesian mythology as they are very interesting.
I like kappas, they are lil goofy guys.
I like how you draw kappas.
Can you make another video like this and include Nale ba?
We need part 2 its interesting at all

THE LORD HAS NOTICED ME HUZZAH @@TrustMeBroOfficial
It's funny how I only know some of these Yokais just from playing Shin Megami Tensei IV/V and Okami respectively. Great games imo 👍🏾
as a touhou and aka manto fan and player I see this as an absolute win.
I just find it hilarious that we westerners see Japanese culture as this strict, dignified, straight-faced society hell bent on honor & perfection, but when you actually LOOK at the mythology, it's full of the most whimsical, nonsensical, bonkers creatures you've ever heard of
I thought women were scary before this but know I am terrified of them.
Basically the only thing that can save you from Gashadokuro is Godzilla😂 (except for GMK Godzilla, you'd be dead, because GMK Godzilla is made out of the spirits of dead WW2 soldiers and he would probably team up with Gashadokuro.)
why is japan so terrifying
Fr
Teke teke is a good one!
A yōkai is a spirit, zombie, ect for short. (四回/ヨカイ/よかい according to my keyboard) I was surprised the Eight Feet Tall wasn’t on here tbh.
Kitsunes are very cool.
Kuchisake-onna might be the thing that inspired the story of Jeff the killer
What happens if I ask the Kappa if it wants to be my friend?
I've heard of all of these and more yokai simply because I love learning about supernatural creatures but the last one is actually somewhat inconsistent because apparently it's called the hundred foot skeleton which means it's literally 100 ft tall and it's just like the video said indestructible and invisible and about trying to outrun it how on earth are you going to a hundred foot tall skeleton that's trying to eat you it could literally just grab you with its long massive hand and boom you're dead I remember the only way to quote on quote survive one of these encounters is to carry a talisman or something but I don't remember that well.
We need a pt2 with the oni and tengu
you should definetly cover kune kune in part 2
Aka Manto gonna be lookin confused as hell when it haunts bathrooms with bidets installed
Why did you draw the kappa so cute 😭
OOO make a video about Hanako
Hi I'm your subscriber from Indonesia, i have recommendations video idea you might like. How about "Indonesian ghosts" which is very famous topic in my country and probably can attract new subscribers from Indonesia!
That's all best of luck my G
Thank you!!
12:46 another way would be to use big floodlights on them, it won't kill them but it would make them disintegrate and maybe appear somewhere else where there is no light.
Why do I kind of feel emotional when I think of the tree yokai
he’s never misses 📈📈📈
Nice
Nice
that little kappa amogus 😍😍😍
11:41 apparently if you tell her you are late for an appointment, she will bow and let you go
If you didn't know yo-kai from the game yo-kai watch are literally the yo-kai from japanesse folklore but they changed a lot of yo-lai to make them more friendly
Somehow I discovered a whole rabbit hole of stickmen talking about cool stuff
3:19 Biggest Nobody's adventure reference
Yo you should check out Abu Fanoos and Nasnas both of them are creepy middle eastern folklore that some people still believe in their existence till now
You should include sumpurnis, it's a latvian mythological creature
Bro 2 seconds after you get your head aten by the skeleton:

As a giant fan on yokai this makes me happy
Young handsome man? Phew I’m safe
the slit mouth woman can be deterred by giving a confusing answer that you would need to explain
i need a part 2
on skibidi this guy goated but fr u need to match the vibe with the goat sudoku
Kappa seems to be a very well known mythological creature around the world. I have heard that they tries to reach out from water and pull peoples life force out of their butt. Farting seems like a viable counter for such grab-attack.
Dang bro yokai are different then urban legends
