    Ya had me worried there for a second that everything was going to go smoothly.... What a job on a boat if it doesn't go wrong half a dozen times.... Well done on holding your tongue.

      As the first boat job I'd ever done. It had my nerves wrecked lol

    Bravo. Check the cockpit drain connectors at the stern exit make sure they are first class. Well done

    There is also an article on an Albin Vega named "Tarka The Otter" modifications made on the vessel for a voyage around the world. Cheers

    One point the screw you sheared off was it Brass or Steel ?? the reason I ask is the Screw you have replaced it with is probably a low grade steel and will cause the Pump housing to corrode through Dissimilar Metal Corrosion more so in this area as the water is Salt water. Plus the Screw you fitted file it down to the correct length and do away with the washer as this to will loosen up due to engine vibration in time another reason to find out what the Metal the pump housing is made of and replace the screw with the right material as the others is again Dissimilar Metal corrosion and it will end up shearing off again in the housing but you will have issues in re tapping it a second time if you have the same problem regards Craig

      Hi, Thanks for the addvice. It was a stainless steel screw. I'm not actually sure what the type of screww the broke was, but the others all seem like stainless

    We had a Vega for a number of years, great sailing vessel. Lots of trouble with the original Volvo MD6-A and the variable pitch prop that were standard at the time, ditched them both. Go to a Auto parts store and buy an assortment of gasket material and tube sealers, super simple to make your own gaskets. That just might save your life at sea.
    As others have said be careful of the cross member support for the mast, very common for it to sag over time. USUALLY caused by over tightened shrouds, not poor design.
    Maintain waterproof seals for hatch cover and seat boards.
    Get batteries and fuel tank out of bilge.
    Change ALL through hull fittings, keep a wooden plug by each.
    If you get bored, remove cabin headliner, ha ha.

      Hi Ron, thanks for your comment. A lot of useful advice there. So far the yanmar engine in our vega has been great, but think the starter might need replaced soon, clicking at times when trying to start,
      Our next video is just uploading as I message you, and I actually have a question about the through hulls on it so your comment is well timed lol. Thank you. I need to get the rigging inspected and thightened correctly. while the boat is currently hauled out.
      Aww the headliner removal is the stuff of nightmares and will remain a work in progress.
      Chat soon, Mark.

    Since just starting on this project you may want to start a collection of screws hose clamps. Some locktight removable(blue) , neverseize and for the emergency high heat silicone. Also write down the size hose belt and date replaced.

    well done, sometimes its a case of just pulling it apart and trying. can i recommend you got yourself a logbook so when you have to do this again in the future you have a rough idea of what you did last time?

    • @Sailing_Aquarius
      @Sailing_Aquarius  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes definitely a good idea. I've been meaning to do that, so I can detail engine servicing etc also 👍

      Not a problem oh and I know I have gone on about stuff in my next comment I am an Aircraft Engineer and know what corrosion is about it is cheaper to replace the screw than the Pump

    Great job buddy ! That was a bitch with that screw snapping but you fixed it like a pro. I remember back in the day making my own cardboard gaskets with cereal boxes lol, old mechanics trick. Top job with the fix

    Nice work, I am not good a giving advice " because I hate been told what to do" BUT I would have put the new impeller in and keep the old as a spare. Because you don't know when the old one was changed and as part of the yearly engine service you should change the impeller. Welcome to boat work, 2 hour job takes 3 days, very normal. Oooooo ya go the ur local BMW Dealership and ask for their old Agm batteries I have 3 on my boat, they are the dogs dangley bits

    • @Sailing_Aquarius
      @Sailing_Aquarius  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, don't be silly I need all the advice and help I can get, so feel free to give me any pointers.
      The new impeller that came was too small. The whole lot supplied was wrong from the eBay seller. So kept the original there.
      So the old AGM batteries, im assuming there was something wrong with them or why were they discarded? I have been looking at those. Did they discount the price or give you them free?
      What tiller pilot do you use, would you recommend it?

      @@Sailing_Aquarius i have a friend that works in BMW he said the batteries have to change under warranty if brought in. i had 3 on my trident on the sail around Ireland and i have 3 in my new boat. if i can get any more i will let you know. i find them great. get to impellers next time All ways have a spare. my tiller pilot is broke after doing the Jester challenge, so i am going to fit my wind vane and look out for a ebay bargain electric autopilot .

      @@sailingceltic1911 do you use 3 as your house batteries or 2 and 3 is starter battery? If you're able to get any batteries I'd be eternally grateful.
      Yeah I'm going to get a few service kits soon and to built up some spares etc.
      Your videos are proving a good source of info. Thanks.

    Hi, in case you are unaware there is a manual on the Albin Vega available for download from either the America Albin Vega
    Association or the British one. Very informative. There is a weakness where the beam for the mast support , which is usually reinforced
    With a new beam. Books..... "Voyaging On A Small Income" by Annie Hill. "Cruising Under Sail and Voyaging Under Sail" by Eric Hiscock.
    Start with the old timers, they new there stuff. "a Liquid Life" is a good video blog as is "Cruising Lealea" all the best
