bought this little monster few months ago and it\s the sh**! The best growl, depth in a small amp like that. The quality of sound is just unbelievable!
Amazing value, sounds awesome. I've been wanting somebody to do a decent 1 watt amp for ages... Kudos to Blackstar for cracking the code. I'm loving what they are putting out into the market.
@EdgarBeja Hi. The "stereo" output allows you to connect two 16 ohm cabs. However since there is only one amplifier all you are actually doing is widening your sound in the room (if you place the cabs far apart). If you only have one cab, I would recommend you connect the 1x8 ohm output on the ht5 to the 8ohm input on the htv212.
Great! Love your tests of Blackstar gear, and bought the HT-1R after watching and listening to this video. Must say it's got all I need in a home practice amp, except a little bit of extra headroom on the clean channel. A pity I am in Norway, since buying from you means customs and shipping get too expensive. Anyway: Keep up the good work!
I've had this amp for 5 months now & it is the best amp I've ever owned to the point where I sold off my vox & Marshall. Blackstar is an up & coming company, they've earned my business. I recommend this amp to anyone who wants to practice without deafening themselves but that's not to say this amp doesn't get loud, it's crazy because it's only 1 watt but you can hear it across my house with the volume & gain cranked, it gots some balls. The clean tones I get with my strat plugged in is really soothing but at the same time I can still play my punk music & heavy metal. When I researched this amp before I bought it, I had a list of about 10 other tube practice amplifiers including the Marshall DSL5c & the Vox AC4TV. The HT-1R dominated them all. I am not paid by Blackstar & I am not saying Marshall & Vox suck because I highly respect those companies but I believe in Blackstar. If you do want a Blackstar be sure to get the one with reverb, it really sounds nice in the clean channel. I have my volume at 10, gain at 6, EQ at 6 & reverb cranked to 10. With a stratocaster omg, it sounds brilliant. When I get dirty, I flip the switch & boom, perfect clarity & controlled madness for heavy metal & squeelies. LOVE THIS AMP.
It's great. Everyone who has ever owned this amp, actually owned it and used it thoroughly always says the same thing.. best amp under 20 watts probably ever. Blackstar made magic with this amp, accidentally or not. It really is an incredible amp. I run two I to a 4x12 stereo cab and I couldn't be happier. Great for recording and can be mic'd up to the PA with a band if you really wanted to. I know others that are doing this as well with two of these. Love blackstar clean tones especially
Good job as usual with useful product demos. Got a HT-5 myself and its stunningly good for the money, May even go for a HT1-H sans verb just so i can push the output at full blast. Either the HT-5 or HT-1 are studio no-brainers
I got one the other day. Love it. Perfect home amp. Get some great tones from the tubes even when the nipper is asleep. I think they're on to a sure fire winner with this one. Well worth your consideration if your looking for a practice amp.
I've recently bought one of these as my Hot Rod Deluxe deafens the neighbours unless I bring the volume down so low that I'm not driving the tubes! With this baby No Problem even on the driven channel but oh what a magic tone! Because you're really driving the tubes you're getting all the response and I've put a reverb pedal in when I want a deep echo! I have no idea how they do them for this money but I'm glad they do! Affordable tube tone for digital money! Put it to a 2x12 as in this demo and you can drive over most drummers! Buy one you won't be disappointed!
@Doddus Hi there. You shouldn't notice any difference in tone between the HT1 and the HT1R with the reverb at 0. We think the HT1 without reverb is just for those who never use it or already have a pedal they like and want to save a bit of money! Otherwise there's no reason not to get the HT1R
@ninjasRfunky I should think it will be about the same but should definitely be loud/quiet enough compared to a 15w SS. As for the Champ well the Blackstar and the Champ are very different beasts when it comes to tone, it's really down to what you want to use it most for. Decide where your priorities lie, the blackstar probably will not handle Jazz particularly well but I would urge you to decide based on what YOU really want it for.
Jaw dropping sound for a 1 watt amp! I have to say it's best clean sounds come from the Strat while the over driven sounds from the Les Paul are awesome --- but isn't that just the way of the World?
@Furtheronmusic I'm still amazed at the tone from my HT5 stack, puts a smile on my face every time I switch on. You will not be disappointed with the HT5 in whatever format you buy it. This 1 watt baby has just effectively carved a gaping hole through the solid state practice amp market. Why bother when you can get valves for this price.
1 watt can still be louder than you might expect! If your walls are thin and/or your neighbors sensitive, even a 1-watt tube amp might not be apartment-friendly. The HT-1 still sounds quite good though even with the master volume turned down a bit.
Great demo! I have a Blackstar HT-5 and I want to know how I connect a HTV 2x12 Cab to it! The cab says (8Ω Mono / 2x16Ω Stereo) What´s the difference between mono and stereo and how do I connect it into my HT-5? Thanks guys!
@gwugluud it doesn't run as hot as most tube amps for sure. That wait we haven't had a chance to test it in a Texan summer yet so we couldn't' guarantee it wouldn't overheat!
@101theguitardude yeah from how you describe it sounds like an HT1 would be about right. Though you may want to check out the HT5 too just in case you wanted to be able to push it a little more sometimes. But an HT1 will be fine with a piano and bass.
@MuckersGtr I'm in the same situation, since I've got an Orange Tiny Terror + cab. I was thinking that adding a 16ohm resistor across the speaker terminals will drop the overall speaker impedance to 8 ohms. It'll reduce the volume still further, but probably not a big deal. Easy enough to put a couple of 1/4 inch connectors and a resistor in a little box to do this. With only a 1 watt amp, it's not like there's a lot of power or heat that's going to be involved.
hello, Blackstar!... I have just purchased the HT1 R combo, really great little amplifier, I am very happy with it , thank you!... I have a question : in the video preview it's been presented having the extension sockets for 8 ohms cabinets - mine came having written on it that it's impedance is between 4 - 16 ohms !.... that's means that I should have no headaches which cabinet I would use for the extension sockets?...!... :) Claudiu - Aeternum
@MuckersGtr You will probably wear out the tubes very quickly, and there is a high risk you will blow the output transformer which you don't want to do! I would imagine your cab has two 8 ohm speakers wired in series (=16 ohm load). If you're handy with a soldering iron, or know someone who is, you can modify this so they are wired in parallel. This will give you a 4 ohm load on an 8 ohm "tap" which would be better than 16ohms. Nevertheless, I'd still try and use an 8 ohm cab for the ht1. HTH!
@AndertonsMusic I´n not sure about that, tried both with Gibson LP with P90s, and on the clean channel, with high gain setting, I suspect a better sound with HT1... but its just my instinct and how I remember it. I´ve read the reverb is digital, I don´t have great experience with reverb, but I can´t say I like it. Feels pretty useless for chords, to me most noticeable with lead blues lines, but I don´t know if it enhance anything. And if you have to look for it... it´s not there.
Silly question: Does the HT-1 head put out much heat? I'm thinking not, since a preamp-type tube is used for the power section? This is an issue for me, bcoz I live in Texas, and during the hellish 6-month summer, I have to switch to solid state amps for my home studio. But I'd rather not!
What kind of valves do they use? How much are they to replace and where would I get them? How many valves does it have and do you need to replace them all when just one goes, like most valve amps?
bit daft that blackstar's HT-110 1x10 cab is 16 ohm and that's fine for the HT-5 which has 8 and 16 out, but the HT-1 only has an 8 ohm out, so it can't be used with blackstar's small cab. Or am I missing something.
Great video, thanks guys. I'd like to ask you if it's possible make a comparison with the Ibanez TSA5 Tubescreamer. For Blues-Rock music, which one would be better? thanks!
@AndertonsMusic I know it's kind of old but you should do a review of the bloody good amplifier know as the Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 or 120 Tube Head. Thanks
Just wondering, I know there is another model of this amp without reverb. Would the tone benefit from not having a digital reverb in the way of the sound even when its completely dialed off on the model with the reverb?
@AndertonsMusic Hey guys. Same question but different cab. I just bought a ht5 ext cab( it states 16ohms) cos plan to get a ht1rh, so does this mean that i might not be able to pair them up?
I want that SWEET li'l amp! I had a Fender "Blues Deluxe Reissue" tweed amp and it was simply WAY too loud for home use. I NEVER turned the volume above three (3.) This appears MUCH more "user friendly." 🙂
What kind of pedal can be used to give a little bit more tone control? I use a epiphone exploxer 1984 and I need a little more treble on it. I thought a eq pedal can work but a dist with a tone control might work better? What is your opion?
hey... i got myself a blackstar ht 60 soloist combo a qhile back... and i absolutely love it... but i found a problem when i wanted to plug my pod x3 live directly into the power amp section (just to check how it would sound colored by those tubes) and there was absoluttely no sound coming from the amp (setup being: guitar into pod input - pod live out into FX loop return)... this setup has worked for me on other amps so i'm wondering if there's something wrong here.. please help!!
when does this amp go on sale in usa? also what type of reverb is it? is it spring? if so is it a tank or is it digitl, if digital can it do hall or room typer reverb?
say i have a large vox combo, and this ht-1 combo, can i plug my ht-1 to vox's effect return as a mean of using it as a extension cab? cuz sometimes all i can find is valve combos. what about direct to mixer or pa/speakers? good?
@spidaman25x yes, I've no problem with using it in a bedroom on low volumes. There is a possibility to use it in standby mode (only preamp section is active) and use emulated output as Your headphones socket. I'm using HT40 at live gigs, rehersals and at home. It shines when master is near 12 o'clock. If You need only bedroom amp maybe you should go fot HT20 or maybe even HT5

this little amp sounds gorgeous. Would this hold up in reharsal through a 4x12? I have a 100 watt marshall, but it's just to know if it can work.
I can't believe i still use this amp every single day and its perfect 👌

Probably the best home amp of the last years. A classic.

The emulated output is awesome. In fact, fantastic.
Thanks for the review guys! Never heard of Blackstar until I saw your shootout video with the HT5, Marshall Class 5 etc..., and now I'm a total fan!
I've had this amp for 5 months now & it is the best amp I've ever owned to the point where I sold off my vox & Marshall. Blackstar is an up & coming company, they've earned my business. Just got one and it sounds pretty awsome! When I played it at the shop people couldn't believe that the tone came from such a tiny amp :)
this is by far the best review i've seen of this amp! thank you very much!!!
Good job as usual with useful product demos. Got a HT-5 myself and its stunningly good for the money, May even go for a HT1-H sans verb just so i can push the output at full blast. Either the HT-5 or HT-1 are studio no-brainers
I got one of these the other day.......Awesome! You can dial in a really nice clean and crunchy tone. Highly recommended.
I got one the other day.
Love it. Perfect home amp.
Get some great tones from the tubes even when the nipper is asleep.
I think they're on to a sure fire winner with this one.
Well worth your consideration if your looking for a practice amp.
Awesome!!!! Another killer from Blackstar. I was looking at an HT5 as a practice/recording amp but this is in the mix too now

You guys are really doing Rock N Roll on that small amp. I'll get one.

This 1 watt baby has just effectively carved a gaping hole through the solid state practice amp market. Why bother when you can get valves for this price.
it's only 1w so you don't have to push it super loud for great tone. That's the whole idea you see! 1w = great tone at a lower volume
@lokistears123 Yes - the emulated out is also the headphone output so it does stop the speaker.
Lez Paul!! man I just love you guys!! hope to one day get to visit your store
love your playing captain!
this. sounds. amazing. I'm selling my 15W solid-state modeling amp and buying one of these.
Jesus christ 6 years... fuck I remember playin skate on ps3 whilst watching this when it came out
I did the exact same thing... only it was a Xbox 360 :P
Geez, time flies!
1 watt can still be louder than you might expect! If your walls are thin and/or your neighbors sensitive, even a 1-watt tube amp might not be apartment-friendly.
The HT-1 still sounds quite good though even with the master volume turned down a bit.
Seriousely, this is third post...IT's getting into metal...AND IT's 1 watt!! It sounds so good.
This is a kick ass amp that packs a punch and delivers great tones.
@AndertonsMusic tnx i tried the ht-20 but it did not kill the speakers when i used the headphones
I have the first one without the reverb and it is amazing for the size and the power!
Great demo! I have a Blackstar HT-5 and I want to know how I connect a HTV 2x12 Cab to it! The cab says (8Ω Mono / 2x16Ω Stereo) What´s the difference between mono and stereo and how do I connect it into my HT-5? Thanks guys!

Woah!!! How can it sound that Big!!! Sounds huge.

Can you make a video comparison between this amp and the Vox AC4TV?
Hi ! Great review, but do you think it's a good amp tu play sometimes with a friend who have a bass with a 15W transitor amp ?
Holy Andertons Batman! that sounds so good! Crazy! I mean REALLY !
Love that sound at 6:15... a Reef-riff right?
+Seg@fredo Place Your Hands
I wish i had adertons in India.
@AndertonsMusic I know it's kind of old but you should do a review of the bloody good amplifier know as the Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 or 120 Tube Head. Thanks

@AndertonsMusic
Hey guys. Same question but different cab. I just bought a ht5 ext cab( it states 16ohms) cos plan to get a ht1rh, so does this mean that i might not be able to pair them up?
Amazing Amp with a beautifull Crunch Sound in the cclean chanel ! I love it !
sounds huge for what it is
very nice
good review too
on the overdrive channel, can you get a clean sound by rolling the guitars volume down?
That's a really good price for a tube amp even if IRS 1W and I see the captains got some chops!
Came upon this accidentally (I've got a Mk II), and I had to smile about how much the Andertons' (and others') webby-progs have come on. Thank god.
Just wanted to know if the amp needs to be played quite loud for a decent tone. Or can the tones be achieved at apartment friendly volumes :)
How much volume would you say it put out when plugged into the cabinet? I presume it wouldn't be gig-worthy but enough for a good practice session?
So can the HT-1 Head drive a 16ohm cab? Like a Marshall 1960 for instance...
Are the two channels foot switchable or do you have to push a button on the Amp.
hey... i got myself a blackstar ht 60 soloist combo a qhile back... and i absolutely love it... but i found a problem when i wanted to plug my pod x3 live directly into the power amp section (just to check how it would sound colored by those tubes) and there was absoluttely no sound coming from the amp (setup being: guitar into pod input - pod live out into FX loop return)... this setup has worked for me on other amps so i'm wondering if there's something wrong here.. please help!!
when does this amp go on sale in usa?
also what type of reverb is it?
is it spring? if so is it a tank or is it digitl, if digital can it do hall or room typer reverb?
@DrewBlackstar thank you 4 the answer, great to hear that!... :)
does it kill the speaker when you use the emulated output?
When will this be on the Blackstar website? -PK
say i have a large vox combo, and this ht-1 combo, can i plug my ht-1 to vox's effect return as a mean of using it as a extension cab? cuz sometimes all i can find is valve combos. what about direct to mixer or pa/speakers? good?
sold
@spidaman25x yes, I've no problem with using it in a bedroom on low volumes. There is a possibility to use it in standby mode (only preamp section is active) and use emulated output as Your headphones socket.
I'm using HT40 at live gigs, rehersals and at home. It shines when master is near 12 o'clock. If You need only bedroom amp maybe you should go fot HT20 or maybe even HT5
Is this amp better than the modeling amps? Like the Cube 40XL?
hey man does the amp get really loud? like a full auditorium loud!
Since my birthday is after Christmas im looking for an amp.
when will it be available in the us?
@4:59 Look at the Captain's game face as he gets seriously rocked the fuck out by one watt of all tube power
how loud is that amp when you compare it to a transistor - amp? (like 10 watts with transistor)
HT-1 + Strat = Hendrix
Christophe Larmoyer I'll be buying this amp, a wah and a fuzz. Then play through my strat. I'm a huge Hendrix fan, hope it'll sound like his legendary playing!
For good clean sounds which should I choose: Blackstar HT-1R or Blackstar ID TVP 15 ?
will it work through a normal combo amp like say a fender frontman 212r?
Cons= No Fx Loop, No High, Medium, Low EQ
Pros= Great tone at low vol,Emulated Output (Very nice), Good general quality
Reverb is OK, ISF is OK and that's pretty much it.
Be careful if your intention is to run, Time-based effect on this amp, besides that it takes very well pedals.
Love the Reef riff at 6:14
why didn't Ed play it with his signature Martin?
@AndertonsMusic Is it good enought for Slash,Jimmy Page and Joe Perry kind of sound?
the captain has the chops :]
4:20 strat blues sound !!! Is what i really want!! Its a really cheap option to achieve this sound
are the channels foot switchable?????
when does this amp go on sale in usa?
Can you please reply to this. It sounds totally excellent. But I am looking for for a 1 watt amp to be QUIET. This sucker is loud, might as well play my other amps.
this little amp sounds gorgeous. Would this hold up in reharsal through a 4x12? I have a 100 watt marshall, but it's just to know if it can work.
Probably not, you would have to have an insanely quiet drummer haha but ht-5, most probably would :)
The answer is yes , watch the answer is about at 1'30
