    Anyone else out there who has read this book? And please do comment if you think there are other comic book series that would fit to What Happened?-category.
    I just realized I didn´t mention anything about the book format. It must be the album format - also in hardcover - that is so familiar to me that I don´t even register it. Sorry for that. But I guess the physical properties of the book are clearly visible in the video.

      I did buy and read this one after watching your library tour video about a year ago. I knew this was the only one since you mentioned it on the video, but I'm still happy to have it in my collection. With art that amazing I rather have this than 7000 omnis of US comics with horrendous art, but with that said I really hope this will get a continuation at some point in time, even if the odds are slim.

      @@marcspectororamijakelockle7232 Wow…OK. Glad you liked it as otherwise I’d feel a little guilty😅
      I do hope we get some kind of closure. I have hard time accepting it didn’t sell enough. There is so much less interesting content put out all the time. Then again even good content won’t sell if the marketing fails.

    So, a few weeks ago when I started watching this video, I stopped about 8 minutes in and immediately ordered a copy of Drowntown. I loved what I saw in the video but didn't want to see or hear even the tiniest spoiler! Haven't read it, I can say it was even better than expected. Outstanding art, great world building, it's such a shame all we got was volume 1. This is the kind of project I wish some brave soul (much braver than I!) would take to crowdfunding in order to make it a reality...as long as the creators were interested of course. Thanks for bringing Drowntown to light!

      😄I didn't expect anyone to buy it but I do understand if you did. The second I looked inside the covers in store I knew I had to get it. And I have read it many times already.
      I would sleep my nights better if someone would reveal the behind-the-scenes-story for this series.
      I tried to look for social media of the creators so I could ask but since I don't use those apps myself I gave up quickly.

    Detective ThereOnceWas, what a funny idea for a video serie! reviews about this comic are rather good.

    That cover is so genius and the world looks like it would make a great film though I'm sure the comic once complete will be a must have. Does it have parts of the story underwater?!

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  ปีที่แล้ว

      At 7:05 the picture of Leo Noiret is probably from a sub-pub which are briefly mentioned at one point. The window behind Leo shows underwater street. But there is no real action that happens underwater(except one smooth gravitybike move from Gina)And that ”water” is mostly very filthy.

    You should add Angus McKee's Blue Lily to the "What happened?"-list. Story and art by Angus McKee (based on a short story by Dave Weir). This series has yet to conclude. Issues three and four were solicted in the early part of 1993, but have not yet been published. That's a shame, as this story of a metaphysical metal detective named Rusty Spade is a fantastic piece of work.

      I wasn’t aware of this comic. I checked out the graphics and it looks stunning! Very detailed and the use of light&shadows gives panels three dimensional quality. Everything about this feels very British - which in scifi is a bonus for me. If this is ever concluded I’ll buy it🤘🏻Thanks for this.

    I did some digging and found the author's twitter account. Last year someone asked him about Drowntown and he said it was on "indefinite hiatus". I thought wrote this last time, but my comment didn't go through. Probably because it had a link

      Not sure how easy it’d be to bring out new volumes now after so many years. I mean I would buy them but how to get publisher to commit, I dont know. Maybe if they’d publish all three volumes as collected edition?

    I have another case with a FB series. Not that wasn’t completed in the original format, but because FB never finished this one: King of the Flies by Mezzo and Prius. Original published in France around 2005 until 2013, the trilogy has already been compiled in one volume since then, but FB never published the third one.

      Too many comics series get only partial translation. I’m still on the fence if I should include those in What Happened?-section. As you said they were concluded in some form. Also the reason to discontinue is in most of the cases same: sales numbers. Then again story behind the sales numbers - good or bad - does interest me. It reveals a lot about marketing.

    Briggs Land from Dark Horse, it got 2 volumes. But it was Written by Brian Wood so i guess thats why it was never Continued.

      Had to google this one(I’m truly horrible at remembering names). Turned out I know this writer. I have one The Massive trade and have read a bit of DMZ in digital. I didn’t know he has sexual harrassement allegations on him though😳But yes, that is quite obvious reason for projects being cancelled.

  • @eduardocarvalho861

    Very interesting book. I think thee second and third volume should have completed the story and apparently they weren’t published due to low sales on the first volume. But it seems all too fuzzy about what really happened then and if the project will be completed someday.

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sales numbers can be an/the explanation too. But I would assume publisher of this size is committed to two or three volumes if that concludes the story arc. A whole story is so much easier to sell, too. Having said that some reviews complained that the story wasn’t concluded in one volume. I think that was also linked to album format being strange to these readers. I was delighted but at the same time suprised by the format choice. Maybe they were targeting mainly European market rather that USA.
