Boy,John, you did a fantastic job. Great soldering. Lots of patience and steady hands. I couldn't do what you did, not with trembling hands, soooo,l'm going to try to do it the other way that you first did it in your other video. It look like something l could do, especially at my age. I must say it was a great video, and so the other one you demonstrated! Thank you so very much, and God bless you, Mike
Love the old school switch panels the leds made it more modern looking. I will be doing the old school panel my self in the future but just the basic wiring. Your wiring skills are awesome.
Thanks, even though I've gone and tried the computer control path, there's something about manual operation that I like and wouldn't mind doing a old school control panel again for the layout I have now. Cheers and thanks for the sub - John
Hi John, you certainly know your way around a soldering iron 😲 that is some setup 👌 I built one using DCC Concepts Alpha system 🤔 but then came up with a better solution, get rid of the points 😲 I'm now a happier man 😂😂😂 Very best wishes from County Wicklow ☘
LOL get rid of the points, nice one! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes, I have a background in electronics that's why I get carried away with wiring, etc.🤪 I'll have a look at the DCC Concepts alpha system as I would eventually like to add a control panel to work with the current DCC setup. So many options out there. Cheers, John Oh, one important tip - make sure you hold the soldering iron from the right end. 😄
Nice control panel, loved your wiring and the veroboard, it made it very neat and module. I love having a control panel on the main layout and will hopefully be adding accessory decoders to my points so it works through the z21 but also retain my panel I will be doing a series of vids on points, how they work and different ways to control them. With kato it's alot easier as the points can have motors built into them but I will be covering the Peco track, It may be of use to someone 😁 All the best Tony
Thanks Tony, yes I would also like to add a control panel to work with the current DCC setup as well. I recently installed some Peco points on one of my modules and control them with servos. It will be interesting to see how you go about it. Cheers for now John
Interesting, I really liked the Kato levers but this is alot more elegant. I personally like the idea of the scale levers operating, but then that's me! :)
@@wimbletrain The ScaleFour society provide etched brass levers and frames - they require soldering to put together but are much cheapeer and more hardy, afaik
Nice work that John, even though I have a Z21 controller and I can operate the points through my IPad/phone I will be having switches and various control panels around the layout, I just like switching a switch, lol! Cheers John, John
G'day John, lol, flicking a switch is as satisfying as clicking a pen non stop! 🤣 At the moment I have set up switching my points similar to you (im using various Digikeijs bits) but would also like an option to set up a control panel with switches/levers as well. Still have to figure how to combine the two.
I like the control box, it reminds me of a retro computer console. Are you going to make a control panel for DCC as well, or just use something like JMRI and Panel Pro?
Thanks Heath, retro is good! I probably would like to make a control panel to operate with DCC. I have only used JMRI to run trains and haven't really looked into Panel Pro. However, I did find this other control software called Rocrail. The nice thing about this is that I can create each module separately and then just add them to create a layout. This way if you swap a module on your layout you just swap it in software as well ie. no need to redraw the whole layout. So far I have built the two yard modules in the software and can control the turnouts just by clicking the turnout on the screen. But I wouldn't mind a bit of old school manual lever type operation. DCC Concepts have some nice levers but they are very costly....maybe one day.

very interesting. i wish i had your wiring skills.

Thanks, the levers that would be good to have are the ones from DCC Concepts, nice, but not the cheapest.

@@wimbletrain I have heard of Rocrail, but never tried it. I would be curious to see a video on it.
