My Headcanon:
After the events of Ep9, the First Order and the Resistance, now became the New Republic, signed a 5 year ceasefire in order to reorganize their forces. During these ceasefire the First Order, having lost nearly all of their manpower decided to rely on the usage of powerful battledroids while on the New Republic, thanks to the data that they have sacked on Exegol and Palpatine's secret archives in Coruscant, the New Republic created an army of Gene Supersoldiers.
Then after the ceasefire with their armies finally ready the battle resumed that it will be now known as the 2nd Clone Wars.

Little detail, y-wings have armor like those, that republic from clone wars. I thought rebel and then resistance once didn't have it :)
