    Why the fugg did fifth gear get rid of Tiff instead of mutton chops? He’s just as anti-EV but gives nothing to the show to help the viewer overlook that fact. At least Tiff could drive the shit out of a car and knew how to put into words what he was experiencing behind the wheel. Wtf are you doing, 5th Gear?

    With ignorant articles that this on ev ownership is it any wonder why people are so sceptical to take up ev ownership. You have to change your mindset on how you look at your own use of personal transport. Does he seriously drive more than 180 miles on a daily commute? If so he needs to move closer to his job and not waste time commuting

    Personally I don't think range is the problem, 180 miles is good. Its the practicality of charging. If you live in a flat where do you charge? Also refueling a petrol car takes 5 minutes, recharging an electric car takes at least 30 minutes at a fast charge station up to 80% charge. The network of charging stations has a long way to go before electric vehicles are a threat to petroleum companies. I don't know why there aren't more petrol stations adding charging stations, looking to the future and investing in renewable energy.

      It seems that new laws are coming into place that petrol station will be required to install EV chargers as well. Definitely a good thing. I drive the BMW i3 (with the tiny original battery). Have no garage and rely exclusively on the public charging infrastructure in Glasgow and it really isn't that big of a deal...

    I had the basic Hybrid (Not Plug In) and i loved it quiet and easy their cruse control with steering and lane keep assist is ace the one thing I miss is rear wash wipe.

      @PhaseSkater 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      why do you need a rear wiper? its a fast back design. any wind stays attached and clean the back

    I live in Australia and the Ioniq is perfect for 98% of my city driving and short country trips (which takes it up to 99%). Longer drives need more planning but are also doable. In other words, in real world conditions, the Ioniq has almost all bases covered. But you also miss an important point: the cost of ownership. The initial expense of an EV has to be spread across its life cycle and, when doing that, it's much cheaper than ICE alternatives. It's around a quarter of the cost (or less) to 'fill up', it doesn't have a gear box or an engine with a gazillion moving parts and, if driven well, is very easy on the brakes. No contest really.

    The government subsidies exist for the Plugin version in the US. It is around 4.5k US dollars. Not to mention the additional rebate you get from the State you reside in.

      @J J Very poor lights at night, no heating while in EV mode (you need to run ICE to get heating), small boot, noisy ICE on idle, maps run from SD card rather hard drive, and few other things that have been sorted out with LF version (stupid hand/foot brake)

    I own a Hyundai Ioniq electric 28 Kwh and I am very pleased about it!
    But if you really want a plug in Hybrid and don't want a SUV, go buy a Toyota Prius Prime! That car has a really ultra low in Petrol consumption. Ues also if you didn't plugged in to charge you can manage 1 l tot 30 km range!

    It's not just range and charging times, but infrastructure, particularly if not Tesla. IMO, PHEV matches the UK infrastructure as it stands and enables EV-only mode for driving in city centres, which is where it's justified. Although, to be fair, stop-start technologies on petrol/diesel cars with the latest filters haven't been given a chance to do what they were designed to do. If the govt had pushed for people to get vehicles with stop-start technologies with scrappages and subsidies, there would have been much greater up-take, and would probably achieve a greater reduction in pollutants because of a much greater up-take. The politics pushing EV everything so quickly is flawed, particularly in the UK where most people park in the street overnight and the charging infrastructure just isn't good enough. Also, where is all the electricity going to come from? Nuclear? What about the politics of that? What about the politics and economics of significantly lower fossil fuel sales? What about possible further destabilization of the Middle East?

      LPG converted self charging hybrid = £10k
      6l/100km or £7/100 miles and 800 miles combined range
      £20 k cheaper than EV or plug-in version.
      East Europe knows how to save on fuel.

    EV cars will only work when there are charging stations in EVERY petrol station and charging will only take a few minutes, until then people will still buy petrol power.

    • @tagg8233
      @tagg8233 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this mindset is the problem. The way you think about driving is in the past. Going to a fueling place will be obsolete. For many it is now. The idea with EVs is that they're plugged in when not using (at home, at work, at destination). This is already reality for many which is why the sales are increasing so fast. It's both more convenient and cheaper.
      The only remaining issue is long range. Wherever you want to drive that exceeds the range does need to go past a fast charger, which usually take under 30 minutes for an 80% charge. They're located at motorway services, a perfect place for a quick rest-stop. But there does need to be more. Happily, they're increasing every day

    • @jonatkinson4544
      @jonatkinson4544 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, who wants to spend an hour in a petrol station waiting for the car to charge. EV chargers should be (& increasingly are) in destination car parks so they charge while you're at work/shopping/cinema etc.
