These are the best EV reviews I have seen. No glitz, no glamour, just straight forward objective information on the cars you drive. You actually do extended reviews...not these short reviews by people who most of the time don’t really know what they’re talking about. I have a serious interest in buying an EV and your reviews are giving me the best baseline to work with. Canada however, has yet to see these in dealerships.

I don't know if somebody else has spotted this, but I love the pedals. They have "pause" and "go" symbols, just like a media or CD player.
In the U.K. we only get the base level trim, no Max edition.
The heat pump is a £1250 extra and the tow bar is another £850.
Alcantara is artificial suede. Leatherette is artificial standard-looking leather. Leatherette sounds a bit cheap and old-fashioned so there are other names for it depending on manufacturer. Alcantara is a commonly used word. I'm glad to see that you are feeling better. Tow hook!!! I thought it was a bottle opener.

Alcantara is just a brand of microfibre and this is just nothing else as PET fibre. This is the same thermoplastic which water bottles are made of.

Of course you also can do microfibre out of other materials, but it is unusual because PET is a really cheap polymer. Which has very good properties. So there is usually no need to use other polymers.

@@ol4er it is not a brand of microfiber and it is not just PET. The composition is 68% polyester and 32% polyurethane and its an engineered fabric going through needle punching, buffing, impregnation, extraction, finishing, dyeing, etc.
Your description is wrong. It's like saying a car is just nothing else as metal because the ratio of metal in a car is also about 68%.

Björn, I think that the “bad build quality” actually are vanes that open if the car needs more air to enter to cool the vehicle (motor, batteries, etc.).

Great review and nice that you got the base model corrected :-) actually I miss reviews of base models in general, since they are more affordable. Heat pump in the Skoda Enyaq IV will be optional accessory and not standard, at least in Denmark according to the current price-list.
I picked mine up yesterday, same color(and spec obviously). However mine came with Bridgestone tires.
I'm sure there will be 3rd party motorized liftgate kits for those who want that. 🤷♂️
I would guess the loose plastic parts in the front may be wanted to improve pedestrian safety. But they might also just be too lose o.O

For me the seats, the headlights, the better assists and the HUD are worth the extra in the Max. Also keyless access is freaking awesome and now I’m used to it on my ID.3 I’d miss that a lot.

Dont forget that the ID.4 Trunk has lashing lugs in the trunk - its quite annoying in my model 3 lacks those - I used them to always secure my bow trolley over the folded back seat

Alcantara and inside-out leather look similar but the former is an artificial product. Also, Alcantara is a trademark and there are similar microfiber products with different names. The ID.4 has some sort of that.
is there a difference between Alacantara and other suede-like cloth products?
@@lastminutesolutions I wouldn't compare Alcantara to suede. Frankly they have nothing in common. As for the difference between Alcantara, Dynamica, and others, I don't know. I've only owned Alcantara-furnished cars so far.
Max is €15k extra here in Ireland! Can't see the value there. Matrix lights, travel assist, keyless entry, electric boot. Those are worth something to me, but not 33% more.
Good review, id4 just arrived in the UK, only id4 first, no max, costing just under 41000 pounds. Also coincided with the scrapping of the government incentive of 3000 pounds on any ev costing more than 35000 pounds. They are saying if you can afford to buy a car for above 35000 then you don't needs government help!

Cable storage, thats why why on EV should be mandatory have frunk, like service hatch. What will cost that manufacture to have enclosed front storage for charging cables. I hope simply clever will do better.

Actually we haven't possibility to order 1st or 1st Max anymore since 11th December -20. So the 1st edition and 1st Max was only limited numbers for each countries (rumour was that i.e. 500 for Finland) and it is sold out. But we have now possibility to customize ID.4 with few standard trims (Life, Business, Family etc) and add some options.
No heat pump for the US version. Deal breaker for me. Here in Northeast it is as cold as Norway.
I believe the flimsy plastic on the grille opens up if the car needs to cool down

Some people prefer to sacrifice comfort for range in a base model. Others prefer to sacrifice range for comfort in a base model.
ID4 will have Tank Edition Plus with chains instead of tires which make auto parking much easier.
In France, First version starts at 48k€. Heavy, cheap plastic interior and no heat pump >> way too expensive

Just fyi... ID.4 Pro S models in the US have lighted VW emblem on the grill. I guess it is legal here. VW must be serious about selling the ID.4 in the US, as they are shipping vehicles to dealers all over the country. They will be building them at their plant in Tennessee.

9:50 that is the reason I like to have a frunk, even if the back is a little bit smaller, because of the frunk. So for me, the Model Y does it better. Cables and stuff that can be cold in the frunk, the rest in the back.

I think Ioniq 5, Mach-E or Model Y are more worth for the money. But the ID4 or the Enyaq are really nice cars when the standard trim is ok.

After testing id.4st and Max models, how significant is the headlights difference? This is my only real concern waiting for a pre ordered st.

Bjorn, what about comparing the different apps and remote features? Here in Norway, being able to pre-heat the cabin by app is huge imo!
The ID3 and 4 also come with apps that allow you to control the AC so functionality wise there will probably not be a big difference, the only thing might be that one app is more user friendly then the other.

The USA 🇺🇸 highest level ID.4 has a heated windscreen great for cold climates like north woods, Does the max edition ID.4. In Norway have it as well🤔
i have Egolf. monday i test id3 and today in Alesund i try ID4 and Skoda Enyaq IV. so ID3 and ID4 nothing better like E Golf. only km range. but Skoda 2-3 times better like VW
My 2018 eGolf is fully equipped; only options I don’t have is the leather seats and the bigger rims. What I really, really like is the adaptive LED-lights, the Dynaudio system, LCD speedometer cluster and the adaptive cruise control. I’m hoping the ID.4 can be customizable from the base level up with some of these features. I don’t value a HUD, multi adjustable AC, electric tail gate and lights that do a little dance when you open the car. Lol.
Max should also have DCC (dynamic chassis), if i’m not mistaken. At least in the non-1st edition trims. No clue how effective it is, probably depends a lot on where you live and drive, but it’s not exactly a cosmetic addition.
As a becoming father maybe you can start adding tests about how babyseats fit in the cars, maybe start with the ID4? :D i just ordered one :)

Nope. It depends on your country, but in Norway (and in Denmark at maybe other contries), there's no wireless charging in the 1st version.
