      @@traviswatters6077 oh what this was not the original comment i posted this on, oh TH-cam.
      But sorry about that, my wordings off that was my bad for the misunderstanding
      I was saying like, creating your own comics. Comics require drawing the same person over and over. So i was trying to say it would be tedious trying to find references for that special pose, or that special expression, head angle, etc. The comment i was posting this on was about "not drawing anything without a reference", something around the lines, and i was just confused on how you would apply that to creating comic pages.

    • @junesketches
      @junesketches 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Stardivamama You maybe know this already but I would say create extensive character sheets. Sketch out your characters in those angles you're for sure to use and also in the basic angles. It's another great way to get to know the character and push them to their limits. I think if you sketch them enough times, you'll find it easier to see/draw them in the position you want. You're also essentially creating your own reference sheets. But also if you're unsure of the pose in the first place- when in doubt use a reference. lol Take a pic of yourself. I think that's the most useful and ready-at-hand reference. (Definitely check out Mike Crilley's videos if you haven't. He talks a lot about how to create comics.) And I also agree with the previous person. Sketch and draft out your pages first before moving to the final.

Everyday in the morning when we'd arrive at the studio at about 7 A.M, he would make us do life drawing for 2 hours and begin our work at 9 A.M, which really loosened us up for the day. And then later during our internship he gave us the exact advice this guy is giving to the world right now that if you like someone's work and you want your portfolio to look like theirs, you study their work and you copy. You already know all your fundamentals and ins and outs. Don't be ashamed of copying your favorite artist, it really pays off.

    Thank you !! I'm so sick of "guides" only showing how to draw pretty headshots on yt or dull-faced still life shots on paid guides. Ofc I can never be truly done experimenting with my fundamentals on drawing proportionate faces, but literally anywhere I look it's only a :-) face, or always in two different perspectives. I love(!) drawing stuff from unique angles, it's what really facinates me about art, although I'm still not that good at it.
    Now I have a list of different topics(not inktober bs I don't have time to think for that lmao), but of different skills I should be developing every day, and I'll add these points. (I already subconsciously started doing this due to some of your other videos too). Redrawing faces on-model is(now) my current main goal. Is it important to practice skeletal build too, or is getting the general body shape what's needed?
    Also idk if anyone even reads these comments, but if anyone wanna share and help each other keep on schedule/help improve I'd be down for that !
    Anyways have a nice day to anyone who took their time to read this :^>

    Hey Ethan! i guess you get this a lot on your channel but damn thank you so much!! I literally just practiced doing studies using your "masking" or deconstructing the face into shapes like an hour ago and i ended up drawing a face leagues better than anything i've ever drawn before! [granted it still looked more comicbook western instead of dead-on hyper realism, it doesnt matter because of how much progress i felt was made in just one practice lol!]
    I always had the notion that i can better study a face if i drew over photos of faces or exhisting drawings in order to see how the face fits together, but i was mostly gun-shy and unable to do so because i thought i'd be thrown under the usual stigma of people thinking i only trace instead of trying to learn how the image is constructed (and even if i wasn't afraid of being mislabeled under that stigma, i had not framework nor point of reference to study the faces aside from just kind of measuring the distances and not retaining any knowledge each time i do so). I've never had so much fun drawing in a long time because i had this sinking feeling as if i was going nowhere in my training, and i guess i was practicing instead of perfectly practicing in those days. I love your presentation and stuff too with the old retro vaporwave aesthetic and how most of the content is easily relatable!
    i guess tldr thanks for uploading your awesome vids and in turn helping a developing artist who was under the weather get back on track! keep up the good work dude!

    I have NEVER seen someone teach "breakdowns" before, its a completely new dimension to art I never ever explored. but yet, so pivotol I feel ashamed to say I never tried. (thats alot of never's) I was the guy that draws pretty pictures, but now I'll keep simple, and focus on key industry skills, I'd LOVE to work for any studio, but hey gotta start from somewhere!

    I feel better now 😭 the best way I learned when I was a kid was to draw over the picture ("tracing") then I'd draw it. It helped me understand how lines were drawn and how it felt to draw them if that makes sense. I stopped doing that because kids would laugh at me and made me feel terrible. Good times.
