Read a book recently on the benefits of adding vitamin D and fish oil to the diet when you have depression, as well as cardio exercise - even if it’s just a 30 minute walk. Good luck friend. I’ve been there

This might help other people, I got a cheap a5 plain paper pad, tore the cover off and it sits next to my laptop, so when I'm listening to TH-cam I can doodle. also I've made it my mission this year to simply use up my ungodly amount of unused notebooks and years old pens even if I'm just scribbling. I think some artists think they need the ultimate art supplies and the most expensive paper but that means you're never truly ready to "ruin" or "waste" them and therefore never end up using them. If your mission is hey let's use up every page of this books or use up all the ink in this pen you'll find yourself drawing a hell of a lot more. Is most of it terrible? Yes lol but you're still practicing and improving even if you're just improving your doodle game

    • @beybladebaby
      @beybladebaby 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

I should say that I tore the cover off the paper pad because of the mental barrier it creates, if a closed book is on my desk I'll leave it alone, if it's ready to go it's more tempting I guess, although maybe that's just me

I've stopped drawing 12 years ago due to discouragement, loathing, verbal abuse. Now I can't even finish a wooden dummy drawing without ripping the page of paper off my sketch pad and throwing the whole thing away- pencils, erasers, sketch pad, pencil leads, retractable pencil, etc. I came from a clan of artists. It happens that my greatest detractors and ill-wishers are members of my very own family.

I too almost gave up but I somehow managed to hang on. My greatest discouragement was from when I was starting out and one of my classmates made fun of the way I added boobs to the mother character. I felt ashamed. Another time I was older and this one substitute teacher made some awful remarks about the way I drew eyes. (Manga-Sailor moon style)

Thank you. I have been on the road back to my art since Fall 2021. I found TH-cam then. I have been doing Art since 1975. High School. I am now 65 years old. I am not done yet. It helps me with my Anxiety which I have been under a doctors care for along with resulting heart problems. I had been working with my art on and off over the years. This time I am growing. I found out I can finally draw people. Line draw with loose sketching. I knew how to line draw etc. in School. I just couldn't loose sketch people better than I did at the time. I am back to being myself where I want to try and I know it is possible. Thank you for inspiration.

I show up every day with a Zentangle pattern and it doesn’t trigger that judgment to diffuse my journaling. I never finish anything. I grew up drawing, since I was 6 years old. I'd say it came naturally to me. When I was around 16, my aunt did something with my notebook full of drawings and lost it. That really bummed me out. Did a few drawings after that, some unfinished. Afraid to mess them up, and afraid to start new ones because I might find out I'm not as good as I thought I was or could be. I've had depression for years now as well. It's difficult to do many things. I would love to start drawing again ✊

Thank you. You inspired me to start a sketchbook journal, but it's been difficult to find things to put in it. I do try to draw every day, even if it's something that I've already drawn loads of times. The ladies in my choir always ask what I've drawn each week at choir practice, but it's always the same old corbel, trying to catch the way the shadows work. I can see that it's a better drawing this month than it was in February, which is great.

Very true. I spent a few years studying art through various online classes and art books (one of them was The Creative License!). I got to where I was very proud of my work. Then my situation changed. I didn't have as much time to devotw to art. It got away from me. Now I feel like I've lost all of that skill. Though I know I can get it back, I find myself wrestling with time constraints and my inner critic. Maybe I just need to focus on the small time I do find to draw (even if it's "terrible") and be happy that the fire is still within me. I WILL get there again! Thank you for all of your encouragement over the years.

your words are very true. It's just that it feels like anyone who sais something like that then displays the most amazing, artistic sketchbooks. And even if you know better, that is discouraging at times when your own is nothing like that. I stopped sketching because it was exhausting only wanting high standard mini drawings and paintings in it. I feel like only one is messed up, it dishonours the good ones in it.

I started drawing in September last year and stopped in January. Why? Because I got frustrated. In my own opinion I didn't make any progress during that time. Also, it's very hard to draw for me, because I always expect nothing less than nearly perfect from myself. Of course that's a way to get frustrated easily.
But I refuse to say I gave up! Because I know, I'm gonna start drawing again, I'm just not sure yet when that will be. Currently I'm working on being more patient and less of a perfectionist. Maybe I should also consider drawing less often in the future. I tried to follow your advice and draw every day. But perhaps that's not for me, because if you draw every day and don't see any progress in your skills it gets very frustrating.

I started drawing when i was very young. Mostly drew anime characters i loved in my youth. At around 21, life stuff happened, school became a struggle as i was close to getting my diploma and around age 22 i quit drawing completely. For some reason i never picked it up again till the end of last year. Im 31 now. I have started from the basics AND even started painting! And i love it. Im so glad something just clicked in me last year that made me go back to it. And now i'm taking it a lot more serious. I used to draw A LOT when I was a kid! Even as a kid I would be amazed at how perfectly I was able to replicate a picture into my paper. Draw pictures of a picture but never from imagination or perception of real time objects or something like that. But one day I STOPPED! Idk why!
And I have been wondering about that for the past 2 weeks and this urge to take my pencil and just scribble something has been on my mind! THIS video feels like you just read my mind♥️ Thanks for this♥️

I stopped drawing because all my free time was taken away by others in my life. Every time i tried to step away to focus on drawing like i used to, i couldnt, id be interrupted and drawn away from my inspiration. So i stopped for the past seven years. The inspiration for drawing has never stopped, but now ive lost the routine of drawing and yes im disappointed with the quality of my work. I used to be satisfied with the level of my work. Only an artist can understand the crushing feeling of having inspiration and not being able to express it.

I know this is 6 months old but I am balling. When my oldest cousin who is like my sister died back in 2017 I think I didn’t (and still haven’t) let myself grieve. I pushed all my emotions in and everything that reminds me of her or triggers me I avoid it because I hate crying and being in such a low state. When she died I changed a lot. I don’t game like I use to - thanks to my husband I’m finding that joy again and every time I saw I am going to draw something it’s like a cringe and then I just randomly compare myself to other artists and I don’t see the point.
Thank you for this video. It’s been 7 years since I drew something so I think I need to take this moment to heal and draw ❤

"Celebrate your life" brought me to tears. Wow. I'm going through a crisis and I can't let myself draw something and finish it. Even though I have a whole book to illustrate, I have it all planned in my head, it seems like what I had been doing effortlessly 10 years ago is now just an unworthy skill. But I need it right now. Ya know... I want to tap in again but it feels like a waste of time. I have to be very specific with what I want to draw, and I can't show anyone anything before it's done. I want to be able to at least make something for myself and for friends. But it feels like every thing is just worthless. My country is at war and it's overwhelming just to be creative. I have to allow myself to make something not just for someone but to celebrate life. That's an excellent advice. Thank you, sir.

I've been drawing for years since it was my greatest passion, but ever since I moved to a new place, I slowly lost inspiration that made me comfortable. I hardly touched my drawing tablet for 4 years and it still bothers me today that I wanna get back to drawing again. and yet my own mind tells me that what if I mess up, what if others don't like my drawing and yet what if I'm not good like they were. cause I'm so focused on trying to make the drawing perfect then just let my imagination go free. I've been suffering from high anxiety, ADD, and depression that I'm trying to find ways to get back for what I have lost those years ago. but today, it feels like the same thing over and over again that my own mind say " I'll do it tomorrow " but once that came, nothing happened, as if my own anxiety is stopping me from feeling happy.
but I really love how you put it that way on how others are suffering with a lose of inspiration and even finding a way to get it back. this video really tells that I lost so much in so much years and wishing to get back to what I love most. this is really touching.

A little technical tip: you might wanna disable automatic gain control in your camera and set the audio levels manually, so that your audio doesn't cut out when you stop talking :)

I stop drawing because I don't see any progress... I was drawing the same cup everyday but there was a point where I was doing the same and didn't know how to improve. Your drawings of mundane things are are so wonderful!! Mine look like 5 year old drawings.

I came here for drawing advice, i didn't expect a lesson on stoicism. True stoicism built on appreciation for all things instead of repression.
    I thought i had a rock and instead i found a geode.

Our art, maybe not technically perfect, is an extension of our gratitude.

Hi Danny, I have a practical question. What sketchbook do you use? I live in a small town, very limited art supplies. Amazon is hit and miss. Looking for something that I can use watercolors AND ink. It looks like you have a sketchbook that is good for both! Hoping this question will help others too.❤☮️

There are many great sketchbook manufacturers, all available on Amazon: Canson, Hahnemuhle, Fabriano, Moleskine. Mixed-media books are good because you can use wet media, and they don't have a rough texture that makes it hard to draw with a pen. Don't buy the cheap ones. A good sketchbook will cost less than $20 and last for months if you draw regularly. Need pen advice? th-cam.com/video/6psVzMUJbNY/w-d-xo.html

That's really inspiring but what if your goal is to actually illustrate a story or if you want to copy a character. Like i've started to draw manga and it's hard to make it special. It's more about studying and trying to get the right thing, but often i don't know if what i'm doing is right or not.

I like the idea of drawing to appreciate a moment and to preserve it. But... when I look at my old drawings, I usually don't remember the moment at all. Like, OK, I drew this sneaker lying on the floor, or this flower, or this croissant, but so what? Even two years later, it's devoid of any context or meaning. I think, Danny, that your accompanying *notes* have MUCH more intrinsic value as mementos. Or at least, that the combo of drawing + note is far more effective than simply drawing. So I'm not sure why you put so much more emphasis on the drawing part. The written text is what makes the sneaker unique and meaningful to you. Anyone can draw a shoe and then forget why they drew it, only you drew THAT shoe with THAT story attached to it.
