    I ended up with my first flame point Siamese by chance. I saw his adoption photo and he was white and had these beautiful blue eyes. He was an orphan abandoned by his mother I knew he was mine as as soon I saw the photo. Later on when he went in for his check up and to get natured we found out he was a flame point. He is extremely smart, I make him do tricks (which I taught him) for treats and of course just the good boys. He doesn't scratch my leather furniture and I even think he prefers the scratching post. Hi is turning 3 this year and he has never bitten me, hissed at or growled. I play with him everyday and often I find his toys in my bedroom in the morning.
    He has to sleep in my bed, but I would never have it any other way. I love his strange quirky habbits like grooming my stuffed animals and constantly licking his blankets
    What is weird is that he really doesn't meow only when he cannot find anyone in the house. Or when he wants his litter box cleaned.
    What I love the most from him is the hundreds of daily kisses I get from him...💕

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Does he have another Siamese or close related breed as a cat buddy? If not, please get him one. Siamese should never be kept solitary.
      Him grooming your stuffed animals & blankets is a sign of a behavioral issue. It is either the first stage of the Pica-Syndrome or he really craves for a cat buddy to groom with. Siamese need & love grooming with other cats.

    we got our first siamese cat a few days ago. he is 9 and we drove 100 miles to get him. he is wonderful and we are already madly in love with him. we are seniors and are always home. he is adjusting quickly to our 2 big dogs who are very used to cats. i have a vet appointment for him because he squints. his eyes are blue but it took me a while to see it.i have also heard squinting is normal. he was checked by another vet before he was put up for adoption. he is energetic and eats fine. we have had several cats and have had broken hearts every time we lost one. several lived to 20 years.thank you for your wonderful tutorial. love your cat room!

    Hi Rita ... Thank you for another great video! You will always be the person I come to if I ever have any questions about cats! You have an incredible wealth of knowledge, and I am so glad you can share it with so many people. I love the thing you have at 1:57 that both Otani and Yozora can sit on to watch out the window. In the video of your cat room and how you re-did it, I didn't see it close-up enough to really see what it was like. It is really nice, and looks very sturdy. Always love seeing Yozora with her kleenex! lol. Makes me smile every time. Loved the video at the end , with them both basking in the sun. You can see the love between them, and clearly with you. Thank you again!

    I think another very important trait of the Siamese as that they are very vocal-sometimes have to explain to someone on the phone that I haven't left a baby crying but a Siamese cat wants to "speak" on the phone too

    THIS IS SO HELPFUL, thank you so much!!!!! I LOVE Siamese cats because of how social they are and how responsive they are to training (I have an animal training background) and how they naturally play fetch, but my youngest Siamese has been displaying some of the behaviors you were mentioning only recently (she just turned a year old), such as being territorial of toys, growling at her older sister, whining a lot, and jumping onto my back to get my attention. I attributed it to her being the youngest and we hadn't spent enough time training her yet, but now I realize we may not be giving her enough exercise either, since it is winter where we live, we haven't been taking them outside on leashes. Thank you so much!! Your kitties are absolutely beautiful. I have a senior Snowshoe Siamese (she's 19!) who has the crossed eyes and curled tail, but my other two younger kitties do not have these traits! I didn't realize that they were rare!

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much! Glad it was helpful to you.
      Yes, lack of exercise & lack of access to the outdoors makes Siamese cats often grumpy (well, frankly that goes for any cat).
      Some quicker than others of course. My Blue Point Siamese Yozora wouldn't have minded too much, when she didn't get her walk sometimes, but my white Siamese Otani needs his walks without exception or he goes nuts. A lot of whining, pacing around & he tends to annoy other cats as well. He just has more energy & less patience.
      Your Snowshoe has a nice age.
      Yes, cross-eyes & the curled tail are rare nowadays...because breeders are breeding them out. (it disqualifies the cat in cat breeding clubs)
      Now I have Burmese Cat which has cross-eyes as well...which is even more rare. That breed has even less the possibility of this trait than Siamese.

    I really do liked red point Siamese cats. When I was a kid a neighbor used to have 2 red point Siamese cats. I just loved their big beautiful blue eyes. They were both brother and sister. They were both afraid of strangers. When I was a kid that I had 2 sweet and friendly American shorthair red tabby cats. They both had green eyes. I did petted a Siamese cat that was a big sweetie. She lost one of her front legs. She had beautiful blue eyes. Even a little ruffle around her neck. She had 4 solid black kittens but, stayed near the front tire of the car in the driveway. I do liked Siamese cats because of their big beautiful blue eyes. I do have blue eyes,too.

    I absolutely love this cat breed. I had no idea how complex, intelligent, and strong willed these cats are. This video inspired my adoption of a new born flame point siamese.
    The road hasn't been easy. These cats are not merely subordinate background figures in your place of residence. They are very much PRESENT at all times. She's wakes me up at her leisure and makes it her destiny to prevent me from comfortably sleeping longer than she see fit. There's no off switch. I feel like im sharing my space with a whole roommate. But the affection, devotion, and loyalty i get from her actually humbles me and greatly inspires my life!

    Love this video! I have a 13 year old flame point siamese and just got another regular siamese kitten. They have their moments of not getting along, but I think once the kitten gets bigger they will be fine. My cats do enjoy playing and my older cat plays fetch. They both let me clip their claws. Such a sweet breed, I am hooked on these babies ♡

      Thank you!
      If your cats have certain problems with each other, I recommend watching my tutorial about how to have harmony in a multi-cat household. You can find it in my Playlist about Cat Behavior.
      And as additional tip: I recommend getting another kitten. Your flame point Siamese is pretty old to be a companion for a kitten. Kittens have way more energy & will annoy older cats. And it won't get better...since the kitten will be full off energy for years & the older cat will get just older, calmer & less energetic.
      So, with time it most likely will get worse.

    Our vet, and other vets have told us to only feed our cats dry cat food. Special stuff, made for urinary tract and other organ health, but still dry food.
    One of ours is a Flame Point Siamese. She was supposed to be my wife's. However, she has attached herself to me. She loves to play with our Russian Blue. They are about the same age, about three years, and they will run through the house. They are all strictly indoor, but the whole house, except the bedrooms, are all set up for them. Cat towers all over the place.

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dry food is very unhealthy for cats. It's actually the cause of urinary problems & many organ problems like kidney failure or diabetes.
      Most vets aren't educated about healthy cat diet, since they barely learn anything about it. Their specialty is something completely different. Dry food companies are also their sponsors & they get money from them. That's why they sell that stuff in their clinic as well to get their cut from it.
      I strongly recommend doing your own research about this & never blindly trusting a vet.
      Here something that talks about Dry Food: feline-nutrition.org/answers/answers-what-dry-food-does-to-your-cat-s-pee
      But there much more out there...
      I recommend providing some kind of access to the outdoors, if that isn't done yet. At least a fenced window, balcony, a cat enclosure in the garden or something. All cats need & deserve daily fresh air & direct sunlight.

    • @defundguncontrol9131
      @defundguncontrol9131 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TravelersGarden_dgdr Howard that specializes in cats, and has been doing so for almost 40 years. I kind of have to go by what they say. And where I live, my house situation, I have no way to give access for them to go outside. But they do have a great big window delay in the sunlight. It does have a screen on it, so in the summer, it is open a lot.

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here a vet & a study about Dry Food causing Urinary Problems:
      healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2012/02/17/dry-food-wrong-for-cats.aspx
      Another study done by vets proved that Dry Food increases the risk of Diabetes.
      --> www.veterinarypracticenews.com/study-cats-eating-dry-food-have-increased-risk-for-developing-type-2-diabetes/
      And that are just some examples. There are many medical studies done by vets out there. And they provide facts.
      Just because a vet is long in the business, doesn't mean he knows everything. And diet isn't their specialty to begin with. So, doing your own research for the sake of your cat's health is important.
      Good that they have at least a window, that can be opened completely. You could also go on walks in nature with your cats.

      Great that you adopted a feral mother cat. Here in Germany aren't many feral/street cats, never seen one in person. (But there are some, as I read on animal shelter websites.) Sounds like a mental problem. Like aggression, frustration, desperation etc.
      A cat should never restrict the movements of a human & definitely never bite. If a cat gets mad at what you do, then it's not "cute" or "love"...it means the cat is unhappy with its life.
      You should get your Siamese another Siamese to be with...because this breed should never be kept solitary. Otherwise they develop mental problems, because they are very unhappy & suffer.
      Plus fix/castrate your Siamese, if not done yet.

      Also playing with a Siamese at least 3 times a day (till tired) & giving access to the outdoors is important. At least a secured balcony...otherwise Siamese aren't happy.
      If a Siamese is so extremely anxious, then it's either boredom (not enough physical & mental exercise every day) and/or feeling alone (owner is too long gone). From my experience an owner shouldn't be more gone than 10 hours a day (less is better of course, I'm gone for maximum 7-8 hours 5 days a week)...otherwise Siamese feel sad. And of course an owner should never leave them alone at home for vacation either.

He was always careful when they were playing to not hurt it. The kitten was really friendly and stubborn so they bounded quickly. He has more issuse with other people thou x.x which is our fault. We got him when he was really little and he didn't spend much time around other people so he is possesive and fearful of others. When we got him it seemed like he wasn't taken proper care of so that could be another reason for the fearfulness. Doesn't help that other people won't even try after he hisses at them..But he is really loveable and i adore him with all my heart.

      Nice that he gets along well with the new kitten.
      Yes, it's often that people don't want to do anything with a cat, that denies them.
      With my cats I never had the problem with aggression, but with spooking/running away.
      They were very scared of strangers & people backed away immediately as well. They felt either guilty or annoyed like they were thinking "I didn't even do anything!".
      I had to train my cats a lot to make them more calm & confident around strangers. Nowadays, they don't run away anymore & let strangers even pet them. But it long quite a while to get there.
      So, I think there is hope for your cat as well.

    I care for a Feral cat colony and I currently have six cats inside as some of them developed a respiratory infection this winter. I have a tiny tom cat, an even tinier dwarf cat, and a beautiful lynx point siamese. The colony tom is a blue shorthaired and Almost A. Cat's (Allie for short) mother is solid black. Her littermates were 2 solid black and two blues. My question is, how did she get a siamese kitten? Allie looks like a purebred and there are no siamese in the neighborhood. It doesn't really matter, of course, I love her dearly, but my curiosity is killing me. I love your video, your babies are so beautiful.

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, there are other breeds that can have the same coloring as Siamese. So it's not necessarily that she is Siamese, just because she has a certain coloring.
      If she is indeed a Siamese, then a male Siamese simply could've traveled till your neighborhood...e.g. from another village. Not neutered male cats travel very long distances to find a female to mate. Or he was a stray cat & was in general traveling to find food or a new territory. After he was able to mate, he most likely got chased away by other males from your neighborhood. Males are very territorial, especially if intact. Since females can mate with multiple males in one heat cycle, one litter can have kittens from several males...so basically half-siblings.
      Anyways, since she is a feral...her being purebred (regardless of breed) is very unlikely. The Siamese Coloring is pretty dominant...so you can take a Siamese & breed it with a regular cat...and there will be some kittens that have the exact coloring of a Siamese. Though sometimes their coloring will look less defined / "clean" colored. (Difficult to describe, but breeders would call that a "mistake" in breeding.)
      Their body type, face type, fur type & character would however give more clear indicators of it being purebred or not.
      So, my guess is that she is most likely a Siamese Mix or other breed mix that simply has the same coloring as a Siamese.
      Breeds with such coloring are e.g.: British Shorthair, Ragdoll, Persian, Cornish Rex, Peterbald & a lot more.

    Hello!
    Im sorry to put this all out here like this, and understand if you cant get to this, but you clearly know a lot about Siamese cats and are probably more well informed than my local vets even (they haven't inspired much confidence so far as nothing they've told me to do has seemed to actually help).
    I live in an area that was recently hit by a hurricane. I found an abandoned cat that I wasnt sure about, brought her to the vet and she didnt have a chip or a collar so I got her her shots and I took her in. Shes clearly a siamese as the coat and eyes fit perfectly.
    I managed to get her to eat and drink but I've been worried about her because I know very little about cats except for the two I grew up with and shes been acting strangely compared to them.
    Vet said shes in the starting stages of kidney failure, she has constipation issues, shes very arthritic in her lower back, and she has hyperthyroidism. The cat is likely about 15 years old per the vet. She recently seems to be developing mild incontinence as I've started to notice that she occasionally leave a spot or urine where she sleeps, and I'll be taking her to the vet for that on Monday. Shes clearly depressed as she displays all the signs of it that you mentioned in your video, yowling, using outside the litterbox, very inactive, and occasionally spooks when the air freshener sprays. Seeing as how shes the only cat I currently have and she has all of the problems the vet mentioned it makes sense.
    Shes sweet as can be and the most affectionate cat I've ever met save for one. I'm not sure what I need to do to get her back up to speed or if that's even possible.
    Vet put her on prescription food and pills for pain and her thyroid.
    I'm not sure if any of that is actually working though.
    My question for you is this. As old as she is, with all the medical issues she has, is it feasible, and good for her, to try and prolong her life? And if yes what should I do for her?
    I've fallen head over heels for this cat but the last thing I want to do is either A. Prolong her life when I shouldn't because shes cute and I want to keep her or B. Put her down to save myself the hassle of dealing with her problems when I could do things to make her a comfortable, happy cat. And unfortunately I dont know enough about cats to make an informed decision on the matter, so I can't help but think I'm being selfish no matter which way I lean. I'm also a college student and pretty close to broke consistently so that's an issue as well.
    Would greatly appreciate your insight on the matter.
    Very respectfully,
    Dez.

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Dez,
      I can try to help you. Before that, I need following Information:
      1. What kind of food do you give her? Dry or wet food? Which brand?
      2. Do you play with her every day? If yes, does she play with you or is she lacking motivation?
      3. As she access to the outdoors?
      4. What kind of Thyroid Values does she have? The thyroid value is called T4 & I need the exact number to know where she is at.
      When it comes to Hyperthyroidism, I can tell you that it is possible to cure the sickness with the right diet. I have personal experience with it.
      Kidney failure can't be cured, but it can be kept at bay even for years, if the diet is right & the medication.
      Arthritis can be kept at bay with natural remedies, so if the case is not too severe, she might not even need pain medication.
      I don't have experience with cat incontinence, but did the vet check if it's an infection, meaning not something else? Like an urinary tract infection, kidney or bladder stones etc? Because with those sicknesses cats can have problems with going to the litter box as well.
      *As a very important info: Air fresheners are highly toxic for cats. It can make them very sick. Please NEVER use this stuff in a household where cats are living.*
      *Long-term effects of exposure to this stuff can include liver or kidney damage, cancer, and nervous system problems (seizures, mental issues etc.). Short-term effects include vomiting, breathing issues, dizziness, and eye/mouth/nose irritation.*
      *So, please throw that stuff away, because it's most likely one of the causes of her sicknesses.*
      I think the cat can be helped to live a healthier & happier life for quite a while, if you are willing to do changes in her diet etc. Siamese Cats can live up to 20-25 years of age...so 15 years isn't old for a Siamese.
      Best Regards, Rita

      So glad to hear that! Thank you so much for offering guidance.
      1. Dry and Wet food, both Hill's Prescription Diet k/d for cats per the vets instructions.
      2. I try to play with her every day, sometimes she engages sometimes she doesn't. Usually she doesn't engage for very long even when I do play with her. I think she doesn't like her toys maybe? I have a toy bird on a string, some cloth mice, and I try balled up paper from time to time. I'm not really sure what other toys there are for cats.
      3. She doesn't currently have access to the outdoors as there are many other stray cats about that aren't too friendly with her and all of the fences got blown away by the storm. There's a few parks nearby I could take her to, but I live in a very urban area.
      4. I just got a copy of her labs yesterday from the vet and her T4 is at 5.3
      There's also something on here called SDMA and that's at 23 and is also flagged as high next to her T4 value.
      I also threw out the air-fresheners and replaced them with candles. I didn't know air sprays were bad for cats thanks!

    Your cats are very beautiful! I need to get another Siamese cat for my Siamese to play with. He likes to play and interact with his brother (his brother not so much). He’s pretty much like a typical cat and likes to do his own thing (what you’d expect from a cat). He snaps and hisses at him when he’s being too playful. I feel bad for my Siamese as he just wants to play. He’s a very nice, affectionate, and social cat. He gets along with my two dogs too and sometimes sleeps with them - an overall great cat, in terms of behavior and personality traits (opposite of what you’d expect from a cat).

      Yes, I think your Siamese needs another play-buddy. A high-energy Siamese or similar breed would be best. I recommend getting a male...a female wouldn't fit well.
      Except you get a female from a breed, that is significantly higher-energy than Siamese. E.g. Bengal or Savannah. The females of those breeds play just like male cats from other breeds....they love wrestling & wild chasing.
      Recently I got 2 new kittens (Burmese Male & Bengal Female) & they get along very well with my Siamese. My Bengal can keep up with the boys without any problems.
      Haha...well, I guess there are a lot of bad "rumors" about cats. In my experience cats only behave badly, when they are unhappy. If they are happy, they will be sweet, playful & overall great family members.

    AII just found your channel. Boy am I in need of your help. I have always had Siamese and in the last 3 years I lost my two babies to kidney disease. I did not know about the dry food causing it. What component of dry food causes it?
    Anyway, my main question today is about the gorgeous huge male Siamese I adopted from a shelter. He’s 14 years old and weighs more than 14 pounds. I’ve had him for almost 7 months and he refuses to allow me to touch him. I have been working with him.and it is getting better but I worry he’ll never come to me. He just started to play more with the toys I have for him. He loves the sparkle balls but stops when I try to show him I can toss them for him...i.e. fetch.
    I only heard his voice two times in the early beginning and it was not Siamese . This really bothers me. Since then he has only hissed at various times. And I’m working with him to do it just once and I will back away.
    All along I’ve let him know what I am up to...although a rescue neighbor said t ignore him and he’ll eventually come around. My last two I had 18.5 years and 21 plus one month. They were one month apart and were great friends but would fight at times. The second one was a little jealous of the other.
    But now I’m older and it is difficult for me to get down on the floor. I’m trying not to be above him as JG says that is threatening to them. I’m trying a treat of freeze dried organic chicken livers. I also have down find the goodies and did three times with me on the floor and putting little treats around me. They are so clever it’s hard to get him to be. So close again.
    My email is mystic janet, if you are still able and want to make suggestions. My vet gave me a med to calm him down so I can take him in but he figured it out right away and now that option is out. Blessings and Love to you and your two babes! Janet

      Hello Janet,
      Dry food causes kidney failure, because it doesn't have enough moisture & cats don't drink much naturally. (They are very different than dogs in that matter e.g.). So cats are in a constant dehydrated state, which damaged the kidneys over time.
      Wet food is always the better option, of course it should be high-quality. Or even better, a raw diet...but this demands research & more work to do.
      Is he overweight or normal weight? For a Siamese he quite heavy, I think. (But the vet surely can tell you, if there is something wrong.)
      Since he is so old & it is unknown what kind of life he was living before getting adopted by you, I suspect that he is sick & that's why he is aggressive. The first thing that comes to my mind is: Arthritis. Cats react with aggression, if touched, if they have this sickness. So, a vet should check this carefully.
      Also: When was the last time he got a big blood test, meaning: kidney, liver, thyroid values etc. If it was done a year ago or so, how was the result?
      Also: Teeth problems. Are his teeth white & his gums softly pink? Or are his teeth yellow, have plaque (especially in the back) & his gums red around the teeth? Siamese are highly prone to teeth problems, also a sickness called FORL. (Diagnosis can only be done x-ray of the teeth & gums. Looking at the teeth doesn't confirm or rule out this sickness.) FORL is a sickness, that slowly makes holes in the teeth or teeth roots. It is extremely painful for the cat.
      If that is taken care of or ruled out, then there is the training:
      - Feed him from your hand or if not yet possible, from a big spoon. No free-feeding! (So, no food available all day.) Use wet food as treats. Not dry food, no treat sticks or any other dry stuff. So dried chicken livers isn't a good option. Plus there is a lot of Vitamin A in it, if he eats it every day, he can get Vitamin A-poisoning. *Liver is never a good treat.*
      Treats needs to be juicy to have effect on a scared/unsure cat. Also cooked meat like chicken hearts are good.
      Training always before feeding time. He needs to be hungry.
      - Don't use balls or any other toys that you need to throw to play with him (at least not now). it is too invasive, since you need to reach towards him/the toy next to him while doing so. Use feather sticks.
      - Don't touch him with your hand yet. But use a (soft) brush to touch & brush him. I have tutorial on how to get a cat used to brushing in a gentle & positive way (I use a harder brush in the tutorial, since my cats like it, but for your special case, use only a soft brush.). If he trusts the brush, you can starts getting him used to touch by hand.
      - Enrich his environment with cat trees, a cat walk/shelves, tunnels etc. Just like I show in the video. (My cat room)
      - Give him some sort of access to the outdoors. So at least: Fenced window which can be opened completely & safely, a balcony with a cat net, a cat enclosure in the garden etc. Cats need daily access to the outdoors to be well-balanced & happy.
      - Search for a cat companion for him. An older Siamese with the same temperament as him. (So, if he is calm, get a calm Siamese as a companion etc.). Being solitary can make Siamese aggressive, grumpy etc. Maybe he was already so aggressive because of being kept solitary & that's why he was given into the shelter.
      Of course you need to introduce both cats safely & correctly. (I have a tutorial about that topic.)
      Maybe the other cat will show him, that you can be trusted, when he sees her/him being close to you. So, the cat companion needs to be friendly towards you.
      Another option would be: 2 Siamese kittens as companions. He could learn from them. But it has to be 2 kittens, never 1. Then both kittens can play with each other & won't annoy the older one with playing all the time.
      I think that's most of it, what I can think of for now.
      Best Regards, Rita

      I rescued an 8 year old Siamese who doesn't allow me to touch her either. I've had her since February, she won't let me near her. I've only heard her start meowing a little bit more now that I didn't hear her meow at all for the first 5 months. It's random in it late at night when she does. She's only 5 lb oh, they said she was a runt and that they believe she is autistic if that's even possible for a cat but you can tell by her eyes that there is something amiss. They're constantly dilated. I tried to change her diet to a better organic food with no grains but she won't eat it she only will eat what they've been feeding her all these years. I wouldn't even be able to take her to the vet because she won't let me touch her , I know she needs her nails clipped. I don't even know what her teeth are like. I have laid down on the floor trying to get her to come to me, she will sit and look at me but as soon as I put my hand to close she takes off. The family that had her originally gave her up because the first Siamese cat was old and passed away and she started being aggressive toward the third Siamese cat, so they gave her up. The other option was to put her down and when I found that out I took her. I have just decided that she has a good place to live and is still alive , so I'm just her caretaker LOL

      Dena Collinge Our stories are so similar . I do think the key is to ignore them...they’ll do it on their own time. I love Siamese, it’s the only type I’ve had for a long time. I’m 70 now and Bandit is my eighth one. They would all play as kittens but when adults it’s just a very short time.
      My guy is big 21 inches long...I measured by where he sits on my chest in the bedroom window. The hx with mine was the owner got sick and couldn’t take care of him anymore. I still not believing it because there is little interaction although I’ve taught him words like dinner, and am going out for a walk. Now as he plays with the balls I call them toys and sparkle balls. My other Siamese through the ages would retrieve them and my last one before bandit would go get the toy and droop it by my feet when she wanted to play.
      Siamese I had heard were one person only but I found that mine loved company.(..I’ve rarely lived with anyone). I did get one at six months and it wasn’t a problem.
      It’s nice you can see yourself as her caretaker as I’m getting there also. I do love him as he is so accommodating . But he was forced into it from the original owner. Not even meowing at all. My meezers would hack at night sometimes and I just feel it’s getting the sound to know where objects were or other people in my building had cats and so they were talking,
      I wonder if your previous owner did realize she just wanted to play. I noticed on the rescue place that mine was considered that because he would roll over on his back and and fight with his back feet. That’s how they play. And even sweet pea I’d tell her to roll over and I would drag her over the rough feeling cement so she could get her back scratched. I ended up also teaching her to jump on the stool when she wanted a brushing.
      I’m just hoping mine comes around but from day 1 he’s had one eye open at all times; today I watched him sleep for the first time and when he did awake I just said hi. If you want to compare stories on and off please email gmail. Thanks for commenting.

      Dena Collinge I used to cut my cats nails but Ian finding with bandit I got him a very tall scratching post and the nails will fall off if they have that available. I had to cut mine because they would catch and snag sweaters or get catch on a fabric. Bandit rarely jumps up on anything; just the bed and the couch.
      I think one of my problems maybe I’m the wrong sex. I think his energy was male or a little boy and the mother or wife would yell at the cat all day.
      I wish people would find out about the animal they’re adopting.
      What country are you in? I’m in the US
      Blessings to you and Ms. Siamese MJ

    I adopted a cat my friend found as a stray when she (my cat) was 4 weeks old. We don't know what the parent cats were but I get asked if she's Siamese by people who've owned Siamese cats themselves because of her striking blue eyes and insane behavior and meowing. I'm honestly thinking I somehow ended up with a half Siamese cat without intending too....
    I want to DNA test her out of curiosity, though I've had here for about 3 years now so I'm used to dealing with her shenanigans and won't bother with training or anything like that. She LOVES cuddling with my tiny multipoo dog and plays with my older cat (also originally a stray that I adopted from a local shelter - he's probably just your average domestic short-hair. Lol). My possible half-Siamese definitely has jealousy issues about my dog and vise versa - they don't bother each other about it, so I find it rather cute. I'm not fond of my cat breaking everything and anything she can get close too in order to get my attention when she's in a bad mood though...

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if a Siamese breaks stuff, meows a lot, shows jealousy, has a bad mood or "insane" behavior. it means that it is unhappy & bored with its life.
      You should make changes in her life.
      "Insane" behavior isn't their character, that's their way to show that they need more in their life. It's not about training or forcing rules onto the cat. It's about giving them a fulfilling life.
      As your Siamese is without a fitting cat friend, meaning has no other Siamese or close related breed as a friend, I recommend changing that. Regular cats & dogs are *not* a substitute for their own kind. They can be friends with everybody, but that doesn't mean they get fulfilled with those relationships alone. They need their own kind.
      This info & a lot more you will find in this video, on how to give Siamese a fulfilling life.

      I hope you're planning on getting another cat as a companion for the Siamese, if you don't have one at home already. Siamese Cats should never be kept without a cat companion & it should be a fitting companion as well. So another Siamese or related breed. (As I explain in the video.)
      Dogs aren't a substitute for a cat companion for a Siamese. Dogs are a completely different species with completely different behavior & social rituals.

    My kitty might be a bit depressed he's a 3rd generation black longhaired siamutt but he's kind of cranky and lazy like that. He's social in that he likes to be involved and near people but he doesn't actually like cuddles and attention that much they make him grumpy sometimes unless you pet him in certain ways then he bites at you to get you to stop. With food we give him mostly poultry and fish flavored foods cause he prefers the flavor he's not a fan of much else although my folks probably don't give him the greatest food ever and he's an indoor outdoor cat. He's pretty active on his own he likes to go explore and hunt for squirrels in particular but he also kinda only lazes and lays around when he's actually home. He also likes to get himself second hand high off my folks's smoke. And recently appearently spray paint fumes too. He's an odd duck. 😛 However, I still really love that wierdo. 😊

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mh...he being so often grumpy is quite a sign that something is bothering him. Maybe he is even sick? Like teeth problems. Siamese cats are very prone to have teeth problems even since early age. Research about the sickness "FORL".
      That he goes outside is good. But it seems he has no cat friend...not that you mentioned it anyway.
      I would't let him near cigarettes though, cats are more sensitive to that stuff. I hear it quite often that cats, which live in a household with smokers die from lung-cancer. Cats have a lot higher risk to get that, than the actual smokers. I also would not let him near spray fumes, it might be toxic in some way.
      If you want him to enjoy something without risk, then buy him a toy with Valerian in it. Cats LOVE that & its risk-free.
      Nice to hear, that you love your cat.

I’m thinking about getting a Siamese cat again, but I have two dogs one is a miniature poodle who is 14 years old and the other is an Cairn Terrier that is 18 months old and is very energetic and playful. Do you think I’d need to get another cat along with my Siamese or do you think that it will just be fine playing and cuddling with the dogs? Thank you!

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Siamese need other Siamese or similar cat breed as a companion. Cats communicate completely different than dogs & have other needs. Like long grooming sessions with each other...dogs don't have this behavior. Another species (dog, human or any other) can never fill the void of a cat companion. Just like a cat or dog can never fill the void of having a human companion/interactions for us humans.
      When a cat is an outdoor cat, meaning it can go outside whenever it wants & can meet other cats, it's not so severe, if it doesn't have a cat companion at home...but it's still not ideal. (Since regular cats are still quite different than Siamese & often don't get along so well.)
      It is very often, that people simply never experienced what a huge difference it makes when having 2 Siamese or just 1 Siamese being solitary. That's why it's hard for them to believe that it's a big deal. But if you experienced it once...having 2 cats being so affectionate & in-tune with each other, than you never will keep a Siamese solitary ever again. Just watch my 2 Siamese on my channel...especially how they are with each other while being outside on walks or any other outdoor activity. Such a bond is absolutely unique. And I wish that every Siamese has a chance to have something like that.

    • @anneschantl8929
      @anneschantl8929 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jocelynn Seaton Siamesealways do better if the have a bonded buddy especially if you work. They love humans first but will put up with their mate if the human isn’t home.

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anneschantl8929 Well, I wouldn't say that they only "put up" with their mate, when the human is gone. Siamese love being social other (nice) cats. And they get very sad & depressed, when they loose their mate....even if the human is at home all day. I say that, because recently my Blue Point Siamese died of cancer & her brother was devastated. He screamed non-stop for days (he screamed so much, he needed to take antibiotics for his throat, because it was so inflamed!), didn't wanted to play & even started to refuse to eat. He was on the way of literally dying. And I was home all the time, because I wasn't able to work after this loss. But my companionship didn't help him much, he was absolutely hysterical. Even though he is extremely bonded to me...he just couldn't live without cat companionship...not even for a couple of days.
      So, I got him quickly a new cat buddy (a Burmese Kitten) & after 3 to 4 days they became friends & my Siamese calmed down again. He has now also another cat buddy (Bengal Kitten) & he gets along with her as well. All 3 cuddle with each other etc...regardless if I'm home or not...they just need each other. Usually they all cuddle, while laying next to me or on my lap.
      So, in my experience Siamese Cats need & love cat companionship...they not only use that as a substitute for their owner.

    • @anneschantl8929
      @anneschantl8929 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Traveler's Garden - Der Garten der Reisenden you are right and maybe my girl was so strongly attached to me only because she was a rescue and had been abused. She did play with our Burmese but I was the centre of her world.

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anneschantl8929 Her difficult life could've made her more distant towards cats. Maybe she was taken away way too early from her cat mom & then was kept solitary or came from an household were she got bullied from other cats or similar.
      All of that can make a cat anti-social. Usually they are able to get better again, but they sometimes never truly recover, if it was just too much time in the bad situation.
      If she really only played with the Burmese, but nothing else...then it's very unusual for a Siamese. Siamese *love* to cuddle & groom with other cats...multiple times a day. They form very deep friendships with their cat buddies...but that doesn't mean that they are less bonded to their human. Their human is definitely the center of their world & they can't live without them for 1 day...but they also feel the same towards their cat buddies.

    I have a question- is it required to have a second Siamese with your cat? I am considering getting a Siamese and would be able to attend to it frequently on a daily basis so it would not be alone for any considerable stretch of time. Thank you for the great video!

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! Yes, it is a absolute must, just like I explained in the video. A human cannot fill the void of a cat buddy, regardless how much time you spend with the cat...since you aren't a cat. You can't play like a cat, can't communicate like a cat, groom like a cat etc.
      Just observe 2 cats, which are friends & you will understand, that you can't provide such a relationship. Social animals need their own species, just like with dogs, horses etc. And just like humans need humans.
      And just like I said in the video, if a Siamese doesn't have a cat buddy (one that fits with character etc.), then it will get behavioral issues (either aggressive/destructive/anxious or depressed/losing interest in life/gets sick).
      Solitary cats also become anti-social & forget how to communicate with their own species...it's a really sad thing to witness. That goes for any cat btw...not just the Siamese.
      Just get 2 Siamese kittens from the same litter. 2 kittens are 2 times more fun for you too, especially seeing them interact & play with each other is sweetest thing. And don't worry, they will be still extremely affectionate towards you...so you won't be missing out at all...on the contrary, you will get so much more. 😉
